Summary
Wen Kexing is woken, like so many nights before this, by the feeling of a shadow wrapping around his leg. He rolls over and rubs the bleariness from his eyes, looking for the shape he knows he'll find. Sure enough, there's an unnatural darkness in the corner of the bedroom, as though someone's spilled ink into the very air. He hears a faint sound like breathing - or rather like the idea of something breathing, from a creature who no longer needs air but is pretending as though it does. The hair on Wen Kexing's arms stands up, and his heart begins pounding. If he squints, he’s sure he’ll see two inhuman eyes peering out from the gloom.
"A-Xu," he croons, voice soft. "Won't you come out where I can see you?"
