Chitchat Challenge is 2025’s take on our annual summer fic exchange. Like our past events, authors will write fics based on other participants' prompts. This year, the prompts will be dialogue based. Everyone will submit two short quotes and be given two quotes in return to work into a fic.

Now it was three in the morning, the bars were closing, and she was sobering up to realize what she’d done.
Bea calls Alex in the middle of the night, breathless and alone, having slipped and fallen down a rabbit hole she hadn’t seen the ugly side of in nearly half a decade. One year later, Alex and Henry look back on the turbulent time they are all, hopefully, putting to bed.

But, within the safety of a mid-week practice, with only his team surrounding him, Henry could have at least introduced Alex as his partner to his polo teammates. It seemed the least Henry could have done. But he didn’t. And Alex resented it. It’s not like their relationship was a state secret, and by the time that awkward afternoon took place, the news that they were in one had been known the world over for weeks bordering on months, so Henry’s reaction had completely thrown Alex for a loop.

After officially moving into the Brownstone together, Henry tries to arrange the corner room he’s turned into an office and personal library, but his efforts are over-shadowed by a heavy grief that his father is not there to join him, a tradition they used to share whenever they moved into a new home while he was growing up.
In comes Alex with his classic charm (and a few fun dirty jokes) to help Henry remember that his father’s presence lingers in the pages of the books, memories and love he left behind.
