“Oh thank god you’re alone,” Belle sweeps into the room, a puff of air escaping her cheeks. She quickly shuts the door behind her and leans her back against it, as though to keep anyone else from following her inside. Jack raises an eyebrow, straightening up from crouching in front of a supply cabinet.
“And where have you been? I was just about to come looking for you. It’s almost time for supper, you know,” he says.
“There’s no time for that Jack,” she says, waving him away. “I have a situation I need your help with. But it’s ah, oh god. I’m being so stupid."For dodgerfoxweek2024: Feb. 29th prompt post-series/alternate universes

Summary
Belle had spent hours watching her compass as a child, watching it waver to and fro, quickly at first and then slower. She now knew it was due to proximity. When they were both in London, the compass moved more quickly as their relative positions changed quickly, orbiting each other around the city, so close and yet never touching. Then Jack went to sea and his pace was controlled by the ship he sailed upon. Then Belle herself crossed the world and Jack’s compass which had always pointed him home drew him to the very continent he had once dreaded with every fiber of his body.
