Description:

"Besides," Aemond whispered, "I think the dragons will like the copper. It looks like the sun on the scales of the Bronze Fury. If I were a dragon, I would choose you first."

Haera looked from the stone to her brother. The tears stopped. She didn't say 'thank you'—she wasn't a girl for many words—but she moved closer, leaning her shoulder against his.

Aemond sat down in the dirt beside her, guarding the entrance to their little silk-and-stone fortress. "Don't let them see you cry again," he warned, his tone shifting back to that of a tiny, serious commander. "We are the only ones who matter. Let them have their silver hair. We will have everything else."

(In which Aemond and Haera, the second son and the second sister, riders of the two largest living dragons, knew that they were never truly Team Green or Black. They were only ever Team 'Rose and Sapphire'.)

Notes:

Hello! I wanted to explore the addition of an actual "battle-hungry" lady dragonrider in the HOTD universe. I got the idea for the fanfic when I got so, so, sooo frustrated that Baela just didn't rain fire on Criston Cole lmao. (No hate to her, I love Baela. I understand she was under orders to just scout but maaaan I hate that Rhaenyra forbade her to just Dracarys that incel fucker.)

Furthermore, I wanted to explore a new dynamic with Aemond. We all know he has deep-rooted validation issues, so how would he act towards a sister who is utterly devoted to his welfare, albeit blind to his romantic feelings? Haera is somewhat patterned after Helaena's social affect combined with canon Aemond's pragmatism.

Things aren't always warm and bright for her though. After all, the fire that burns the hottest and the dragon that flies too close to the sun is prone to a certain... Targaryen madness.

(For collabs, fanart submissions, and other stuff: message me at Discord: @_cakes_boss. Might not be able to reply too quickly though.)
