Summary
The entire world stands still for a moment. He can hear the gentle rustling of leaves, see the sway of the moonlit grasses, the petals of flowers outlined in silver light. It is beautiful out here, but it feels wild, and Tommy thinks of every awful animal that could charge through the undergrowth to kill him. He expects a fox, or a bear, or fuck, even a wolf. Maybe a ghost.
He does not expect this: a man, holding a lantern with dirt-stained hands and dull eyes, shoving the grass aside.
