This time, it wasn't him the person sitting on the hospital bed. Or inside the hospital room, for that matter.
Which should be good — having a break from the horrid routine — except for the fact that the circumstances were the absolute worst.
Well, they were good too. But the good was getting drowned out by the bad pretty easily, so it was easy to forget that it existed at all.
He kept having to remind himself of the silver lining, "They are here, they're alive, they're going to be okay," Rex repeated under his breath like a mantra.
