May stopped walking before responding in a surprisingly angry tone, “She’s not my girlfriend, and anyway, that's not what I'm thinking 'bout.” May’s angry response surprised her, she was usually ok with her teasing, or at least didn't object.
April was interested in what May was thinking, but she knew that she shouldn't pry, so she gave a quick “Ok” in response and started walking; expecting May to follow her. When April didn't hear May’s footfalls behind her, she stopped and turned around to check on her. What she was met with was her sister shaking with barely contained crying.
“Sis?” April rarely ever saw her sister cry and emotions were never her strong suit. She wasn't exactly sure how to handle this. She slowly closed the distance between them, and when she was closer, May spoke through her wet eyes. “I’m- I'm sorry sis, I just don't- don't want you to hate m-” April cut May off by closing the last few feet between them and hugging her.
