Summary
After the Solstice, the watcher’s window closes and the Refuge goes quiet in a new way. Rue meets a tired lamplighter with ink-underlined dictionaries and a missing GROUND button; she tells him what was lost, and he offers what he has—steady arms, small lights, and a place to rest. In the morning there’s bread, a walk between islands of not-dark, and a promise: if it gets heavy again, she can come back.
