"He was my friend."
"Yeah...that must've been really tough." Kate tried to sympathize.
But she noticed the way Miles hesitated. The way his fingers dug into his chair. The way something almost akin to fear shined in his eyes; if only for a moment.
And then his walls were back up, just as they always were.
Kate pushed regardless. "Do you want to talk about it?"
OR: In a world where there's nothing paranormal going on, and Kate isn't crazy, all that remains is two really scared, traumatized children who Kate just wants to help.
But Kate must admit, she's not sure anything, whether it be knowledge, experience, or even age, could've prepared her for the things Miles was about to tell her.
