I am a huge advocate of destroying heteronormative gender stereotypes. My childhood was plagued with being forced into a more female gender. It has taken me far too long to find myself (that self being bi-gender bi-sexual. I identify female, which, I suppose is convenient because I was born a "girl" but the male aspect of me is still there below the surface).
Sometimes I think about how my life was before I discovered Sterek fan fiction. My whole life changed that day.
The Boy and the Beast by Dira Sudis (dsudis) was the first one I read and will always be in my heart as the fic that changed my life.
Though...
Prince Among Wolves by tylerfucklin (zimothy) was the one that woke me up to gender norms.
I highly recommend them both!
