We usually have some fictional heroes that we look up to, they are definitely more easy to find in our media filled life.
To me, first Agent Scully, then Samantha Carter showed me, what science can also be and encouraged me to be a female scientist. And I've learned some tricks from Captain Janeway on how to be a better mentor and later on a leader. And though I most certainly not use violence, Aeryn Sun, the queen of bad ass is always just as inspirational.
For years I've been reading fanfiction, but then I've decided to pen a few of my own. It definitely helps in being fresh in non-scientific English vocabulary as English is not my first language (and I've certifications from another two as well, which I rarely use, aside from my mother tongue).
