“I’ll do anything, please,” Nishikiyama said softly, bowing his head to the point it nearly hit the table. “I beg of you, please,” he whimpered, as if Shimano would suddenly have a soft spot in that seemingly cold and empty heart.

Mac goes to sleep, uncomfortable on her mattress on the floor, newspaper still crushed in her hand where the ad for a roommate has gone unanswered, and in the morning, there she is, sat at the foot of Mac’s mattress, totally nude, face radiant, wings—wings?!—charred and tucked neatly against her back.
“What are you,” Mac asks, because she’s not human.
“What do you think?” The angel replies, and Mac knows then that she must be an angel, because even her rolling eyes seem sort of divine.

They always do it in Dennis’s room, but that’s mostly because Dennis is too lazy to follow Mac into hers. Mac doesn’t think it’s some huge meaningful thing, or whatever. If it was, Dennis probably wouldn’t let Mac do this in the first place.
Dennis huffs, getting up on her elbows and peering down at Mac with a frown. ‘Why do you always take so fucking long?’ she complains. ‘Are you like, looking for the Ark of the Covenant down there or something?’
