I enjoy the Harry Potter universe the most of all universes, especially the characters Albus Dumbledore, Severus Snape, Lucius Malfoy, Remus Lupin, Sirius Black, and Tom Riddle (Voldemort). I have fallen in love with femharry (female Harry Potter) stories.
I like aspects of other universes as well, including Tywin Lannister (Game of Thrones), Solas (Dragon Age), David 8 (Alien), Twilight, but always come back to Harry Potter. I am not a fan of the Harry Potter movies as they portrayed the world of Harry Potter as something lonely and depressing, removing the magic from it. I hated Michael Gambon as Dumbledore. He was a gruff and mean representation of my favorite character, eliminating his kind and thoughtful demeanor. The actor said he deliberately didn't read the books so he could make the character his own, and it showed. Richard Harris was better, but I imagine Dumbledore as a bit more youthful and exuberant. Miranda Richardson (Rita Skeeter) in the movies was riveting. She is one of the few cases in which I love a character in a movie more than in the book, Alan Rickman (Severus Snape) being another.
Fanfiction has spoiled me, as some of the stories I have read from so many brilliant writers have actually outshone the original books in the depth of characters and story they have created. Understandably, a children's book series cannot go that far.
I adore dark and unique stories with twisted and flawed characters, and since I have been reading fanfiction for over 15 years now, I have developed more discerning tastes. My fanfic pet peeves are stories that are too "goody two shoes," where the protagonist is bound to being perfectly morally correct and virtuous, *yawn*, and time travel fics that just rewrite the entire original story with no changes whatsoever because "you can't meddle with time."
