I write Star Trek TOS fan fiction with a focus on Yeoman Janice Rand, the Enterprise's Blonde Bombshell!
I do not use the trio of Kirk, Spock and McCoy as I think that they were overdone in TOS.
Nowhere does Chekov appear in any of my stories because I am not a fan. I think his appearance took away from Rand, Uhura, Sulu, and Riley. I also thought that he was a bit of a punk!
I hope in her next incarnation Grace Lee Whitney is a Hitchcock Blonde, and his most famous and
favorite one :D
