Back in my day we wrote fanfic uphill, in the snow, both ways, and we liked it! Gundam Wing was projected on the side of our cave by the fire (5x2 baby! Woo!), and the big new thing was an anime section at Blockbusters.
The last thing I wrote was a good 15-20 years ago... but the itch is back. We'll see what comes of that, but for now it's fun to see how things have changed after all these years (so many condoms, who'd a thunk) and what's stayed the same (tropes. tropes for miles)
Just be warned, anything from back in college? Blame sleep deprivation and Starbucks.
