Work Text:
Today was the day.
Deldry checked herself in the mirror for the tenth time to make sure her outfit fit her perfectly. It did. Her cute lilac pleated skirt accentuated her legs with the knee socks, and her light pink sweater, while modest, had a fluffy feel to it. A long necklace that reached below her bust and cute earrings rounded the look up. Her makeup was still spot on as well. She looked damn cute. A quick glance to the clock told her she should finally get ready, both physically and mentally. She took a deep breath before she reached for her keys, put on a jacket, slipped into her shoes and closed her apartment door behind her. She decided to do this and she wouldn’t run from it.
She walked down the road to the subway, in her head already planning out what to do and what to say for one last time. Completely lost in her thoughts her body swayed with the rattling of the subway and after a while, without even realizing it, she left it and was already on her way to the meeting place, a small park at the outskirts of the city. Deldry tried her very best to act normal when she saw her date sitting on a bench.
As always when she met her, Melascula was wearing a long scarf slung around her neck even though it was already spring and getting pretty warm. Jacket, frilly white skirt and dark blue tights with slightly heeled ankle boots looked really good on her but she’d expect no less from her.
Deldry walked up to the pink haired girl and greeted her.
Melascula looked up and smiled.
“Good morning, Deldry”
“Morning, Mela!” So far so good. “Have you been waiting for long?”
“No, I just got here a few minutes ago myself”
“Want to eat something? We could sit down in a café nearby or something if you want” Deldry suggested. She wanted to go somewhere where they could have a normal conversation without anything getting weird. Especially today, because today was a day she wanted everything to go smoothly and exactly as planned. To her relief Melascula thought that was a good idea. Of course Deldry had done her research and knew the way to a finer café that they could relax in. It was called ‘Shooting Star’ which was unusual but cute in a way. The furnishings were classy with a night sky theme, which meant many many stars and a dark blue/white-gold color scheme. It was pretty to say the least.
Melascula picked a table for the two of them, by the window of course, and waved Deldry over.
They didn’t really talk much until they both got their orders.
“Are you not warm in that scarf?”, was a question Deldry had wanted to ask for a while now but always thought it wasn’t the right time.
“Hmm… It is a bit warm to be honest. But I have always liked wearing them. They are pretty and make me more mysterious” She winked at Deldry. “Or don’t you like it?”
Hastily she told her that that was not the case at all.
“I guess I just wanted to lift some of those mysteries surrounding you”, Deldry said with a mischievous smile. “Just joking”
“So what about you?”, Melascula inquired. “You always wear the same kind of ribbon in your hair. Is there some kind of story behind it?”
Unconciously Deldry’s hand wandered to the ribbon that she tied her hair together with. For a second an absentminded smile showed on her face before she shifted her attention to the girl sitting in front of her again. “I guess I’m the same. I just like it.” It reminded her of a boy that she knew. He was the one that gave it to her and she kept onto it ever since. But that wasn’t a story that should be told now.
“Hmmm”, Melascula made, inspecting Deldry’s face as if to see right through it into her head to find out what she really was thinking. It was apparent that she didn’t believe Deldry that that was all there is to it. “Whatever”
Neither of them let this slightly awkward moment ruin their conversation though and soon they were conversing about all kinds of topics. At one point Deldry had to laugh so hard about something the other girl said that the whole café’s guests and crew stopped talking for a moment to curiously look over to their table to see what caused the outburst.
“Deldry?”, Melascula asked with a serious expression. The addressed girl stared at Melascula nervously but indicated her to go on.
“To be honest there is a reason I called you out here today.” She hesitated a bit before she went on. “I have something important to tell you but I don’t know what the best way to do so is.”
“To be honest I have something to tell you too”, Deldry interrupted her. Melascula’s seriousness scared her. She couldn’t determine if what she wanted to tell her was something bad or not. But in case it was something bad she had to act quickly. She had planned this whole day through but it seems she’d have to prepone some things. She wasn’t gonna let this date end just like that.
“Deldry, I-“, Melascula started but again Deldry interrupted her.
“I know we don’t know each other for long”, she told her. “It was a strange incident and I really looked like an idiot back then. If it weren’t for you helping me my day would have been ruined. You really saved me there and somehow we ended up seeing each other once in a while.
Today is the first time we decided to really do something and that’s why today, I want to…”
She hesitated. “I want to tell you that…”
Pausing.
‘Get yourself together, Deldry! Speak up! I know you aren’t that wishy washy. Come on!’
“I LIKE YOU, MELA!”, she yelled at the top of her lungs banging her hands on the table. “And I want you to become my girlfriend!”
Melascula sat there stunned for a second, then she stood up and began to untangle her scarf which resulted in a very confused Deldry. She then continued to place it around Deldry’s neck instead, gazing into her eyes, ultimately pulling her closer with the scarf and placing a soft kiss on her lips.
Cheering could be heard from around the store as everyone was watching the scene.
“That’s exactly what I wanted to tell you too, dummy”, Melascula whispered. Deldry smiled, this time pulling her closer herself, kissing her as well.
