Too Long to the Weekend

Summary:

In some ways, Ryuunosuke could be so childish; especially when it came to his choice of fruits.

Notes:

prompt 4: mandarin oranges

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

The thick, sweet waft of the open fig hit Atsushi before he felt its juices trickle down his fingertips. It made him smile as he gently cut it open, nicking off the stem before slicing it into modest pieces, joining the assortment of fruits on the plate.

Once he was done with the fig, he started steeping their teas; jasmine yin hao for himself, jade oolong for Ryuunosuke. He let the latter steep longer than recommended. Ryuunosuke liked his tea strong, he needed it to better wake up in the morning. Otherwise, he would be lethargic and grumpy for nearly an hour.

Grinning to himself, he chuckled under his breath.

Well, with how much he’d worn Ryuunosuke out the night before, Atsushi would make sure the tea was extra strong.

He rubbed one of his feet against the back of his other leg as he contemplated what else to make for breakfast before Ryuunosuke woke up, tapping his fingers against the counter top. The bites and marks littered all over his bare legs left a pleasant ache; nor he didn’t mind at all that the movements of his hips were stiff. It just reminded Atsushi of the night before and he gave a contented sigh.

Eye falling on the small bowl of mandarin oranges, Atsushi smiled and he reached out, taking one and pressing his thumb down to crack the skin. The sunlight bursting through the window was warm on his exposed skin, the collar of Ryuunosuke’s shirt low on his chest, the bottom hem grazing mid-thigh.

The skin of the orange fell to the counter top as the sound of footsteps joined Atsushi in the kitchen and slender, pale arms wrapped around his middle.

Eyes closing, Atsushi smiled widely and pressed back against a thin, but firm chest.

“Good morning, Ryuu.”

A soft grunt answered him and the hold around his waist tightened, drawing him in closer. Ryuunosuke perched his chin on Atsushi’s shoulder, and Atsushi felt his lips, pulled into a frown, against his neck.

“It’s too early,” Ryuunosuke murmured, voice hoarse with sleep and from a rather exciting night, “You should’ve come back to bed.”

Atsushi hummed, raising a hand to run through soft strands of dark hair before cradling the side of Ryuunosuke’s face. “I wanted to, but I was too hungry to go back to sleep. I thought I’d make breakfast for us both. Your tea’s ready, by the way.”

Ryuunosuke murmured his thank you into Atsushi’s skin, kissing the base of his neck, right where he’d marked Atsushi the night before. The kiss earned a faint giggle and fingers gently caressing his face. He silently took the cup offered to him by Atsushi and drank, senses sparking alive as he sipped the warm liquid. The cup was already half finished by the time he set it down and properly looked at Atsushi, the sleeping leaving his gray eyes.

Flushed and content, Atsushi was the picture of relaxation as he arranged their cups and plates. His skin was littered with the marks his teeth left and he was only wearing one of Ryuunosuke’s shirts, a dark long-sleeved one that hung off of Atsushi’s slender body comfortably. It hung tantalizingly against his thighs.

Ryuunosuke allowed himself a half-smile before his eyes caught the bright color of the fruit in Atsushi’s hand. His nose wrinkled.

That is going to be part of our breakfast?”

Laughing, Atsushi turned with playfully narrowed eyes, snickering at the expression of pure distaste on his boyfriend’s face.

“I still don’t understand why you hate them so much when your favorite fruit is probably one of the sweetest ones that could ever exist,” Atsushi chortled, offering an orange slice. He rolled his eyes at Ryuunosuke’s immediate recoil and wrinkle of his nose.

Just like a picky child, he thought affectionately.

“It stinks up the entire room once you open it,” Ryuunosuke grumbled, frowning heavily at Atsushi as he shrugged and popped the slice in his mouth. “And it’s far too strong, it makes the back of my jaw hurt.”

“And yet the overwhelming sweetness of figs and plums don’t do that at all,” Atsushi teased, raising an eyebrow even as he leaned into Ryuunosuke’s hold.

“Plums have just the right amount of tartness,” Ryuunosuke said, fingers lazily playing with the hem of the shirt Atsushi wore. His fingertips brushed his exposed thighs and felt Atsushi shiver beneath his touch. “And pulp doesn’t get stuck in my gums when I eat figs.”

“And seeds don’t?” Atsushi grinned wryly. “Because I found several in your teeth while we were kissing the last time you had one.”

He yelped when Ryuunosuke lightly pinched the curve of his hip in retaliation.

Their silly little argument was forgotten as Atsushi turned around in Ryuunosuke’s hold, their tea growing lukewarm on the countertop, and cupped his boyfriend’s face as he drew him into a soft kiss. The first of the day, with plenty more to come. The kiss was long and sweet, nothing like the hard, passionate gnashing of teeth from the night before, but just as tender and full of affection. Ryuunosuke’s hands were low on the small of his back and their hips pressed against each other as Atsushi was pulled into his boyfriend’s hold further.

Not for the first time were they both so grateful that they had this now; something they never would’ve predicted just a shy two years ago. An understanding, a partnership that required no words, only a glance and instinct. A mending that was slow to grow, but when it did, its strings were taut and strong.

Nor could either Atsushi or Ryuunosuke could’ve expected this-- this touch and heat, this want that was so raw and something just as deep; love had never been in either of their plans.

Yet, now it’d become so integral and necessary.

So natural and true.

Just as they were for each other.

The countertop was cool on Atsushi’s legs as he was hoisted up onto the countertop, just barely avoiding their teacups and the plate of fruit, but he didn’t mind; he always enjoyed being manhandled by Ryuunosuke in this way.

Ryuunosuke stood between his legs, hands resting on Atsushi’s waist as the kiss continued, their tongues entangled and always eager to explore. His hands trailed down from Atsushi’s hips to his thighs, fingers just barely moving underneath the hem of the dark shirt Atsushi wore. The kiss was eventually broken and both were left breathing heavily.

Atsushi lightly stroked the longer strands of his hair just as Ryuunosuke’s face winkled with distaste.

“..You still taste like mandarins.”

Blinking slowly, Atsushi stared at him.

And then he laughed.

“I could fix that for you, if you’d like,” Atsushi said after the chortles began to die down. His lips quirked upward into a smile far too innocent to be true. He popped a piece of the fig into his mouth and held it between his teeth, gold-purple eyes glittering teasingly as he waited.

Ryuunosuke ate the fig slice until his lips once more met Atsushi’s, kissing him so deeply he could taste everything.

Atsushi moaned quietly into the kiss and Ryuunosuke concluded, Atsushi’s legs wrapping around his hips lightly and pulling him in closer, Yes, this is far better than simple mandarin oranges.
