Work Text:

“GRIFFINDOR!” The hat shouted, barely touching the hair on Jungkook’s head as the Gryffindor house table clapped while those sitting close to the edge waved him over as if the red and gold at the table was not enough to inform Jungkook of which direction he was to go. Smiling to himself, he headed over, feeling giddy and happy at his placement.

As he got to the table, Jimin shifted, making room for him while his new housemates around patted him on the back and a few offered their hands for shakes. He was in Gryffindor. HE WAS IN GRIFFINDOR. With Jimin, no less.

Looking over his shoulder, way passed the younger students on the Slytherin table to the back, he caught his brother looking back at him with a smirk on his face. Jungkook pushed his tongue out at him because he’d been wrong and Jungkook had been right.

“Slytherin.” Yoongi had said as they got off the train into London.

“No.” Jungkook had said, trying not to cry.

“I don’t know why you’re fighting it.” Yoongi said, laughing.

“I’ll be in Gryffindor… or Hufflepuff.”

Yoongi scoffed.

“No one wants to be in Hufflepuff.” Yoongi had told him.

I do, Jungkook had thought. Because Taehyung was in Hufflepuff. And Jimin was in Gryffindor. So he wanted to be in either one. He’d much rather be in a house with one of his best friends than follow Yoongi around in his boring Green and Silver anyway.

“Your whole family is in Slytherin.” Yoongi told him.

“Jihoon is in Ravenclaw.”

“Jihoon is a cousin. I’m your blood. Your direct blood. And I’ve set a tone.” Yoongi said, smirking. “So you’ll just have to follow… and be in Slytherin.”

Jungkook had vowed that he wouldn’t cry. So he most certainly didn’t. Because the water falling from his eyes were just… well, they weren’t tears. And he wasn’t going to let Yoongi get to him.

As he sat there, feeling proud of himself, Jimin dished food unto his plate, whispering tips to him about how to behave and what to do on his first night and how not to embarrass himself. He didn’t really hear much of what was being said, but Jimin’s voice did always make him feel safe and calm and protected. So he nodded, pretending to listen as Jimin continued to feed him and advise him throughout the entire meal.

*****

Taehyung followed the throng of Hufflepuffs back toward the kitchens because he knew he’d never get a chance to speak to Jimin or Jungkook. Not that night. The prefects would patrol and no one wanted points off when the term hadn’t even begun.

So the moment he entered his room, he pounced on his box, pulling it to the side of his bed as he threw it open and ransacked it till he came across the old, brown leather notebook. He pulled it out and got his quill set placed on his side table as he settle on his bed, leaning his back against the wall.

How’s Kookie? He wrote and waited. Who knew what Jimin was doing at the moment or what might be holding him up? They always talked to each other every night before they went to sleep but sometimes, they had to wait. Especially now that Jungkook was here. Maybe Jimin had gone with him to his room. Or maybe a senior had called him away. Or maybe- words began to appear beneath Taehyung’s scribbling.

He’s fine.

Details, Ji.

He’s more than fine. He’s popular.

Taehyung tilted his head as he stared at Jimin’s reply.

What does that mean?

They know he’s Yoongi’s brother and the sunbaes want to talk to him. They won’t even let me near him.

Taehyung smiled. Jimin had always been rather possessive of Jungkook. And even though years and years of conditioning from an independent Jungkook struggling to prove he didn’t need protection had taught Jimin to hide his possessiveness, Jimin never hid his feelings when he was with Taehyung.

They keep touching him and cuddling him and asking if he’s prickly like his brother.

It won’t last long. Taehyung lied.

None of them had ever been able to understand people’s fascination with Yoongi and his brain. Hell, even Yoongi seemed shocked by most of the attention he’d gotten in the few years he’d been in Hogwarts. But that was always their life. Yoongi took one step into a place and everyone wanted to know who he was and why he was and how he was and it was fun to leech off of that sometimes.

But as Yoongi’s brother? Jungkook got the worst of it. Everyone wanted a piece of Yoongi and they always thought they could get it from Jungkook. And Jungkook wasn’t one to disappoint. While he didn’t exactly encourage the attention, he didn’t shy from it. He spoke intelligently, he stayed silent when his seniors spoke, he was courteous and it most certainly helped that he was almost always the most beautiful boy in the room.

So if Jimin hadn’t said good night to Jungkook already, he’d best be on his way to bed because he wouldn’t be getting anything out of him that night.

How was the feast?

Don’t try to distract me?

What do you want me to do? How can I make you feel better?

Jimin didn’t reply immediately so Taehyung waited.

Tell me I’m pretty.

You’re the prettiest person I know.

Including Kookie?

Because Taehyung just liked to walk himself into those traps.

Including Kookie

He smiled and waited.

You’re such a liar but I’ll take it anyway. Kisses.

Good night.

Putting the book away, Taehyung started to undress when his roommates began logging in for the night.

This was certainly going to be an interesting year at Hogwarts. For all three of them.

Jimin didn’t see Jungkook the next morning because the first years all had to follow the House Prefect out. He knew he wouldn’t get to see him during lunch and by the time it was time for study period, Jimin was angry with everybody.

“Stop.” Namjoon said, gripping Jimin’s thighs to keep him from tapping them anymore. “You’re making noise with it.”

“I’m sorry, hyung.” Jimin sighed, folding himself unto the bench as he put his head in Namjoon’s lap. “Kookie is missing.”

“No, he’s not.”

“I haven’t seen him since yesterday.”

Taehyung sighed heavily, falling into place beside Jimin. Jimin immediately transferred his head from Namjoon’s lap to Taehyung’s.

“I miss him already.” Jimin pouted, feeling Taehyung run his tired fingers through Jimin’s hair.

“You’ll see him later.”

“When can I kiss him?”

Namjoon hit Jimin on the thigh as Taehyung laughed.

“Don’t shock the poor boy.”

“He’s in love with us. Everybody knows it.”

“He’s a First Year.”

“So what?” Jimin said. “You’ve been kissing me since we were five.”

“And we’ve never kissed Kookie. I’m not even sure he’s been kissed before.”

“Well, Good.” Jimin said. “We don’t want him kissing anyone else.” He frowned. “Do we?”

“No. But the point is he’s not going to want to deal with that now that everything else is so new to him.” Taehyung explain gently.

“But shouldn’t we do something? You know. Before someone else catches his fancy? He’s hot. He might be gangly and full of nothing but bones but he’s the cutest button in the drawer.”

“Stop trying to sound English.”

“We are speaking English, genius.” Jimin said.

“I’d be insulted if I wasn’t an actual genius.” Namjoon said, smiling down at his books.

Jimin scoffed at him, looking up at Taehyung with puppy eyes.

“Let’s wait.” He pressed Jimin’s head down to his lap as Jimin’s cheeks deflated on impact with his thighs. Then he patted Jimin’s head, causing him to feel sleepy and drowsy. “If he loves us, no one else will change that.”

As Jimin drifted off, he prayed with all his might that Taehyung was right.

*****

Jungkook was coming out of his last class of his first day when he spotted Yoongi lounging on a half wall, his eyes closed and his robes hanging down to the ground.

“TAH!” he shouted, hoping to startle Yoongi but Yoongi’s eyes just drifted open, rather sluggishly.

“What do you want?”

“I can’t believe you still behave like a cat in school.”

“Good bye, Kookie.”

Yoongi began moving his tiny body around with the ease of a person extremely familiar with the wall when Jungkook caught hold of his brother’s sweater and tried to pull him around.

“Is this how you’re going to treat me? Be nice to me, hyung!”

“Stop it.” Yoongi shooed him away. “Go.”

“I’ll tell mom.”

“And I’ll tell dad you’re being a wuss.”

Jungkook hit him on the back and Yoongi swung around so quickly Jungkook would have actually gotten hit if he didn’t know his hyung so well. As he stood from his duck, laughing, he noticed that Yoongi had frozen in place, eyes widening in fear.

“What is it?” Jungkook asked.

“Fifth Years.” Yoongi hissed, pulling on his book bag as he jumped off the wall and used Jungkook as a shield.

“What’s going on right now?” Jungkook asked, confused. He tried to look in the direction Yoongi had been looking but by the time he turned around, Yoongi was nowhere to be seen. “Since when does he move that fast?”

“Found you!” Jimin said, jumping into his view as Jungkook hissed, actually shocked. “Why do you look confused?”

“Yoongi-hyung just ran away for no reason.”

“Oh that.” Jimin laughed, pulling Jungkook away as they began to stroll down the corridor. “It’s the Hogwarts haze.”

“Huh?”

“All fourth years get bullied by upper-classmen. I hear it’s pretty terrible.”

“What?” Jungkook said, feeling affronted that anyone would target his hyung but feeling more confused that Yoongi would even let it happen. “Why doesn’t someone report it?”

“Oh, you rookie.” Jimin said, running his hands through Jungkook’s hair as he stared up at him in that way that always made Jungkook’s stomach fill up with butterflies. “When you get to your fourth year, you’ll see for yourself.”

This hyung.

“You’re only your third year.”

“Which means I know much more than you do. So listen to me.” He stopped moving, taking Jungkook’s head in both his hands. “You’re not to report this, understand. Look at me.”

“I’m looking.”

“You can’t go to admin or anyone. Don’t even bother the Head Boy or the Heads of houses. Anyone that can actually do anything about it will never be given the chance to find evidence. All you’ll do is end up painting a target on your back. Do you hear me?”

Honestly, Jungkook hadn’t heard much. He was standing in a secluded corridor with Jimin just inches from him as he was forced to look into Jimin’s face with his pretty eyes and his red, plush lips and his tiny nose and his overgrown bangs pushed to the side of his face. How could he hear anything when they were this close and all he wanted to do was kiss Jimin?

“Jungkook!” Jimin said, snapping him out of his day dream as his eyes lifted from Jimin’s mouth to his eyes. Suddenly everything felt hot. He wanted to take a step away but his treacherous feet wouldn’t let him. If he didn’t move away soon.

“Hyung I-”

Jimin pulled him down by the neck and smashed their lips together in a soft moan as Jungkook stood there, stuck to the floor and blinking at himself.

What’s happening? What’s happening? What’s happening?

Jimin’s kissing me, he thought, deciding to close his eyes and enjoy this waking dream. Because Jimin’s lips were every bit as soft as he’d imagined. And Jimin’s fingers were toying with the hair at the back of his head. And Jimin tongue… oh his tongue. Was this how it was all the time? With all the kissing? Is this how Taehyung felt whenever… Taehyung!

Jungkook’s brain screeched to a halt as he unlatched Jimin’s hands from his neck and pushed away.

“Kookie-” Jimin started to say.

But he didn’t hear the rest because he’d ran off before another word could be uttered.

*****

Taehyung skipped lunch because he felt so tired. He’d spent the entire herbology class on hands and knees, uprooting Screechlings. He’d volunteered to do it. Mainly because they’d been told that the work for the semester would be taken in shifts. So he’d jumped at the chance to do the beginning work. If he spent this first week uprooting the screechlings, he wouldn’t have to join the other twelve shifts when their own work started.

As he lay on his bed, he searched around blindly for his notebook and found it hiding under his pillow. He pulled it out and opened it, not surprised to find that Jimin had left him a ton of messages. Smiling, he focused on them and found himself sitting up with each text.

Where are you?

I need to talk to you?

I didn’t something stupid.

I kissed Kookie.

I know you said I shouldn’t but I did.

And then he ran.

It was so awful. You should have seen his face like he hated me.

I thought he liked the kissing but he didn’t.

He hated it.

He hates me.

Tae, where are you?

Please talk to me.

Are you mad that I went ahead and did it even after we agreed not to?

Don’t be mad at me.

I’m coming to your dorm now. Please me outside.

He searched for his quill in a hurry as he began to write.

I’m not mad-

Then he realized that if Jimin was on his way then he wouldn’t see the text.

He got off his bed and shuffled into his shoes when his room door opened.

“Kim.”

“Yeah?” He answered, looking up.

“Someone’s looking for you outside.”

Taehyung rushed through the door, thanking the boy as he headed straight for the dorm doors.

As he burst out, it wasn’t Jimin but Jungkook that was waiting for him.

“Uh…” Taehyung said, searching the hallways for Jimin. “It’s you.”

“Hyung, I need to speak with you.” Jungkook said, staring at him stiffly. “Something happened and I… well, I did something. It wasn’t something that I did but it was something that I, I think I may have encouraged. But you have to know that it was never my intention. I was never going to do it. I would never come between you but-”

“You kissed Jimin.” Taehyung said, deciding to put the poor boy out of his misery.

“Yes.” He said, blushing all the way up his neck and unto his cheeks as he dropped his eyes to the floor. “More accurately, he kissed me. But I let it happen.”

Taehyung smiled at the cute, innocent boy still looking at the ground and asked:

“How was it?”

“What?” Jungkook asked, looking up at him.

“How was it? Did you like it? Jimin’s a pretty good kisser.”

“We… I don’t think… what?” He asked, wringing his fingers and looking uncomfortable. “I’m saying we cheated on you.”

“Jimin already told me. He said you hated.”

“I didn’t!” he said quickly then seemed to rethink it as he frowned again. “It’s not good to do things behind people’s back.”

“Fine. Then do it in front of me.”

Jungkook’s eyes widened so much they looked like they’d pop out of the socket.

“What? Why?”

“Because I want to see too.”

“Why?”

“Because he wants to kiss you and I want to kiss you and you want to kiss us.”

Jungkook scratched the back of his head, no doubt running the scenario of all three of them together that way in his tiny, naïve head.

“You don’t think it was cheating?”

“No. In fact-”

Taehyung stopped as he spotted Jimin walking briskly down the corridor with a thin grimace edged on his young, beautiful face.

“We can settle this right now.” He said, walking around Jungkook to meet Jimin as Jungkook faced both of them.

“You’re both here.” Jimin said, looking between the two of them uncomfortably.

“The maknae liked your kiss.” Taehyung whispered from behind Jimin as Jimin finally steadied his gaze on Jungkook.

“You did?”

Taehyung hummed.

“That’s why he came down here all hot and bothered and feeling guilty.

“But there’s no need to feel guilty.” Jimin said, waving at Jungkook.

“Because you both want to kiss me?” He asked.

“Yes.” Taehyung and Jimin said in unison.

He continued to stand there, looking between the both of them as if waiting for something to happen. But the moment Jimin took a step toward him, Jungkook startled, looking like a cornered animal.

“Do you not want to?” Taehyung asked, feeling worried for the first time.

Jungkook shook his head as he nodded in the direction behind both of them. As they looked back, a group of five boys were head straight for them, deep in chatter, reminding Taehyung that they were, in fact, in public.

“We can go somewhere private.” He said, taking one of Jungkook’s hands as Jimin took the other one and they pulled him away. Away from public. Away from prying eyes. Away from excuses for the three of them not to be together. “So that we can talk about this.”

Jungkook followed them for a few steps before he spoke, his voice quiet and uncertain as he asked:

“Would we, would we be doing other things too?”

Taehyung looked back at him, wishing he could kiss him right on the spot. But instead he just nodded, continuing to pull him along.

“Of course.” He said. “And this time, Jiminie has to share.”

When Jungkook laughed at Taehyung’s terrible joke, he couldn’t help but fall even more in love with the boy. And from the look Jimin was giving him, he was thinking the same thing too.
