underneath the sparkling stars

Summary:

Honestly she should’ve known, should’ve been prepared but at this point, she can’t really bring herself to care immensely. She’ll care tomorrow morning.

As if it’s not one in the morning, Taehyung stands in the doorway, bright eyed and bushy tailed. Her hair is perfect styled though she is dressed in an adorable pair of duck printed pyjamas. “Come with me.” She urges without so much as a hello.

Work Text:

In all her half dressed glory, Jimin yelps and rolls off of her bed when the sound of knocking at the front door wakes her from dreamland. Knowing that Jeongguk won’t get up to answer it since it’s one in the morning, Jimin takes the burden upon herself and trudges to answer whoever’s up at this time.

She pushes herself to her feet with heavy arms and scrubs at her fluttering eyes with her fists. She pats around her bed before snatching her fluffiest blanket, wrapping it around her shoulders so that it cascades down her bare legs, trudging into the hallway. As she’s too exhausted to look through the peephole (more like too short) she settles for throwing the door open.

Honestly Jimin should’ve known, should’ve been prepared but at this point, she can’t really bring herself to care immensely. She’ll care tomorrow morning.

As if it’s not the one in the morning, Taehyung stands in the doorway, bright eyed and bushy tailed. Her hair is perfect styled and she’s dressed in an adorable pair of duck printed pyjamas. “Come with me.” She urges without so much as a hello.

“What?” But before anything more can be exchanged, Taehyung grabs Jimin’s hand and drags the smaller girl down the hallway of their complex. “Hey wait, Tae!” She whisper yells since she’s a respectful neighbour and doesn’t want to get yelled at by the family nextdoor again.

“Hmm?” Taehyung doesn’t stop or turn around but she does slow to somewhat of a walking pace.

“It’s so early, what’re you doing up? And where are we going?” She asks, tugging the blanket around her tighter before squealing and blushing profusely. “Tae, I’m not wearing any pants.” She says, eyes wide in horror.

Without another word, Taehyung drops Jimin’s hand and then her duck printed pants. The shorter girl covers her agape mouth and turns so red she rivals a tomato. Taehyung’s long, tan, toned legs step out of the pants and she yanks Jimin’s blanket away and bundles into it. “There, you can wear mine.” She smiles so wide that Jimin can’t find herself fighting the offer.

Her legs soon find themselves in the warm pants that are a little big, sliding down despite her tugging them up continuously. She, then, ties them as tight as they can go yet the pants still hang loosely off her hips. “Thanks.” Jimin mumbles, hiding her face in the collar of her sweatshirt.

“It’s totally worth it. You look so cute.” Taehyung leans forward to brush Jimin’s bangs back and place a soft kiss on her forehead. “Now let’s go, for real.” She says as they clasp hands once more and continue silently until they are out of the building. From there, the two girls head through the somewhat chilly and peaceful night.

There’s something so comforting about the way the world lays dormant, undisturbed. The trees stay tranquil and the streets unmoving. Stars twinkle in the abyss of the night sky, the moon glowing alongside them. It casts the perfect shadows along Taehyung’s face, the girl appearing ethereal. Jimin sucks in a tight breath as they cross to a small playground.

“Oh I brought these as well.” Taehyung turns and holds out not only a second blanket but a box of strawberry mochis. “I don’t know what your favourite flavour is but since your hair is red I picked out the strawberry ones. They also have these little faces on them and they made me think of you.” She giggles.

Jimin takes the extended blanket before inspecting the mochis. True to Taehyung’s word, the mochis do have cute chibi-like faces that makes Jimin’s heart to swell, imaging the taller girl walking down the store aisle and gasping at the sweets.

“They’re so cute.” She laughs, smiling up at Taehyung.

“So are you.” Taehyung nods. And unfortunately before Jimin can protest, Taehyung grabs her and pull her down into the grass so that they face the sky.

The air around them stays hushed for a moment as they both drink up the presence of each other and bask in the beauty of the night. “Minnie?”

“Tae?”

“I wanted to ask you something, well actually two things.” She says, eyes never tearing away from the stars when Jimin tilts her head to look at the other girl. On her features rests something that Jimin’s never seen before. Taehyung has an aura, strong, brave, daring. She’s blunt in a way that makes her outspoken yet reserved. She’s passionate and kind, never backing from a challenge and unfearing of initiating what needs to be done.

The girl is definitely a fighter, a warrior. She has uncomparable energy and a powerfulness that surrounds her whole being. However, lying out in cool grass together at one in the morning with mochi ice creams, Jimin can’t see any of those things. Instead she reads uncertainty and maybe a smidge of fear. Her eyebrows are furrowed as if she’s contemplating the most important decision of her life, bottom lip worried in between her teeth.

Jimin would be lying if she said she’s not also worried. She’d also be lying if she said there isn’t something she’s hoping that Taehyung will say. Something that will make them official and allow their relationship to take a step forward. “Yes?”

The blonde takes a deep breath before turning to look at Jimin. “Would you like to be a model for a shoot with me?” She asks.

Jimin can’t help but deflate, the disappointment already setting into her face. But she won’t say no, any excuse to be with Taehyung works for her.

Taehyung must see her face fall because she’s immediately leaning and cupping her cheeks, squishing gently and rubbing their noses together. “What’s wrong mochi? Do you not want to do it?” She asks.

A pang hits Jimin’s chest, hearing the sadness of Taehyung’s voice. “Well, that and I was maybe hoping you’d ask something else too.” She flushes, avoiding Taehyung’s deep eyes.

“Tell me! In order for this relationship to work, we have to be open and communicate.” She says, releasing Jimin’s face and turning onto her side so that she can watch the smaller girl who mirrors her movements speak.

“Okay.” Jimin swaddles farther into the blanket and breaths in lightly. It smells of the vanilla scent that always seems to cling on to Taehyung. It’s comforting, a tingling feeling swelling in her heart. “Well I’ve never been good in front of cameras, for some reason. On stage or in front of people? Not a problem. But for some reason I don’t like getting my picture taken. I think it’s because I can’t help but criticise the way look and the longer I look, the worse it seems to get.” She takes another breath, curling closer to Taehyung but still refusing to look at her.

“I’m really self conscious. I know I shouldn’t be but I can’t help it. I have so many pretty and good looking friends that I’ve grown up with and always been surrounded by that I’ve started to degrade myself. I know I shouldn’t but I don’t know how to stop. My best friend, not Jeongguk, but Seokjin unnie? I don’t know if you’ve ever met her but she’s so pretty and I mean drop-dead stunning. One Valentine’s Day in high school, she got nineteen roses from nineteen secret admirers! All I got that year was a box of chocolates and a kiss on the cheek from Jeongguk.

“Anyways, my point is that she’s actually a god. I love her to death, don’t get me wrong, but it’s so hard being her friend when I’m ugly. We used to be compared too. Just by me but it still hurt. I hate the way I look, seriously. It doesn’t matter what I do either, in pictures I always look gross and it’s almost unbearable.” She whimpers, a tear slipping past her eyes. She reaches her hand up to wipe it away but Taehyung beats her to it.

“Hey, hey, shh.” Taehyung tugs her close to her chest so that Jimin can press into the taller girl’s body, tears staining her shirt as she hiccups sporadically. “Hey, please look at me.” She cups her jaw and angles her head up to look at her.

“I think you’re more beautiful than you give yourself credit for. You’re so breathtaking that sometimes I find it hard to breathe. And you’re so so so strong and smart for not only admitting it to yourself that you know you shouldn’t do it, but also dealing with it for so long. Maybe it’s because I’m biased and I’m in love with you, but yes, I think you’re more beautiful.” She says, combing a hand through Jimin’s red hair.

“Wait. Did you just say that you’re in love with me?”

“That I did. It’s no lie either. I’m serious. You’re perfect the way you are. And you’re wonderful and pretty and gorgeous and beautiful and amazing and I promise I’ll find a way to remind you everyday until you can finally do it yourself because I’m so in love with you that if I had to walk around the Earth a thousand times to save you, I’d do it. And if you don’t want to do a shoot with me, I’ll never force you to do something that’s out of your comfort zone.” Taehyung grins so wide, features catching the rays of the moon.

Jimin nods, smiling even wider as she tucks herself back into Taehyung’s side. They breathe together, in sync, one whole in sweet silence as Jimin begins to drift.

“So what was it that you wanted me to ask instead of the whole modeling gig?” Taehyung’s voice suddenly breaks the quiet.

A blush crosses Jimin’s face, the girl glad that she’s away from Taehyung’s line of sight. “Well, that’s actually what I thought you were going to ask about. I thought you were going to ask me to be your girlfriend.” She murmurs.

Taehyung is suddenly alert as her eyes pop open, staring at a pink Jimin. “Huh? I thought that was already established! I just assumed that it was obvious!”

“Taehyungie! Weren’t you just the one preaching about how you need communication in a relationship for it to work! You’re such a hypocrite.” Jimin chuckles.

“Yes, yes I am.” There’s a pause, Taehyung’s heartbeat speeding up slightly. “So, mochi, would you do me the honour of becoming my official girlfriend, for realsies?”

“Yes, for realsies.”

They giggle together, both laying back and clinging to each other life lifelines. The two stay there for the rest of the night, long enough so that they only awake when the rising sun slowly bathes them in it’s golden light.
