Quidditch matches were often fun to watch, especially when it was between Hufflepuff and Slytherin. One would think that the most intense and interesting matches were between Gryffindor and Slytherin, for these two houses were always competitive with one another, however it was the matches between Hufflepuff and Slythering that made the crowd stand on the edge of their seats. It was true, a long time ago, Hufflepuff was not too good of a Quidditch team, often just a mishmash of players who were able to hover long enough in the air to whack a Bludger and keep themselves on their brooms whilst holding the Quaffle. Now, it was a new era of Hufflepuff players with an extremely strong Keeper and Seeker.
Jung Hoseok, a fourth year, made himself well known in the whole of Hogwarts for being the epitome of the Golden Snitch. He radiated a certain aura whenever he walked, a bit like a golden aura and he was fast. He could make his way across the Quidditch field in no time, even without a Firebolt. He was running on a Nimbus 2000, an old model, but somehow, whenever he was on that broom, it ran like lightning. Furthermore, he had an eye for the snitch, his eyes flicking and darting across the fields rapidly the moment the whistle has been blown.
But Hoseok wasn’t the only fast seeker in Hogwarts, oh no, his fellow rival, competitor but at the same time, best friend, Min Yoongi was the seeker of Slytherin. He was known for being the slow and steady seeker, not a typical trait, but however, Min Yoongi has made that trait work. Whenever playing other houses, he would often let their seeker tire themselves out as they frantically chased for the golden snitch, hovering in a safe distance away from the game as he carefully watched the golden snitch. And just when the opposing seeker thinks he or she was about to have their hands on the snitch, Yoongi swoops in to grab it right under their noses.
Thus, with this two contrasting personalities and styles of playing, students of Hogwarts often looked forward to friendly matches between Hufflepuff and Slytherin. Today, Hufflepuff had the upper hand over their match, with their main Keeper, who had been resting for a month due to an arm injury, returning for this match. Kim Seokjin, a broad-shouldered fifth year was one of Hufflepuff’s prized players and a game would never be interesting without Kim Seokjin.
The players made their way onto the grassy field, with brooms in their hands. Slytherin, who often had richer upper hand, strode onto the grass with their shiny new Firebolt’s in hand. Hufflepuff, still maintaining their mish-mashed players, walked onto the field with cheerful smiles but with a mind set to win. As their captains shook hands, Yoongi and Hoseok had already begun engaging in banter between each other.
“Think you can beat me today Yoongi?” Hoseok teases, shaking Yoongi’s hand with an extra hard shake.
“Quite ambitious for someone who had lost for an entire month straight.” Yoongi replies with an equally hard shake and a broad cunning smile.
“If Hufflepuff wins, it’s your treat,” Hoseok reminds Yoongi playfully of their deal. They had made a deal, when they become seekers of their own individual teams, to always buy the other a meal whenever the opposing won. So far, in the past few months, Yoongi had been eating good due to Hufflepuff’s missing golden keeper. But now, with Hufflepuff’s strong keeper and seeker in the team, Hufflepuff now stands a high chance of winning.
“I’m feeling butterbeer with Muggle burgers tonight,” Yoongi teases Hoseok, bumping the end of the broom with his.
“Please nothing from the Muggle world, you eat way too damn much for my wallet to cope,” Hoseok pleads, rubbing his palms together. The past month had been a strain on Hoseok’s wallet as Yoongi knew how to eat good. And by eating good, it meant that they have made multiple trips to the Muggle world to satisfy Yoongi’s halfblood cravings.
“I wasn’t the one who said anything and everything when we first became seekers,” Yoongi retaliates. “Also, are you calling me a pig?”
“If the shoe fits,” Hoseok trails off in a teasing tone resulting in a punch from Yoongi. The whistle blew sharply, a signal for the players to mount their brooms. From the grounds, Hoseok could see the crowd has already filled up the Quidditch stadium. Enchanted banners with badgers and snakes hung respectively from the house’s stands and each house had their own chant for their players.
Being Seekers often meant being the center of the crowd’s attention. After all, it is the Seeker that scores a hundred and fifty points for the house and concludes the game. The crowd has already begun their chants for the teams and were now focused on the Seekers. ‘Jung Hoseok’ and ‘Min Yoongi’ echoed across the stadium as both Seekers mounted their brooms with a sheepish smile.
“Have you ever gotten any weird letters from the fan clubs?” Yoongi asks as the captains decide who was to have the first throw and the rings.
“I have changed my locker twice, what do you think?” Hoseok responds, sneaking a glance to a group of girls who always attended the Quidditch practices no matter the weather.
“On your marks players,” a voice echoed throughout the stadium and both Yoongi and Hoseok kicked off at the same time, rising above the ground and facing each other. Hoseok attempted to throw off Yoongi’s concentration by making silly faces however, he was at the losing end when the whistle blew shrilly and Hoseok missed his start.
Yoongi chuckles as he watches Hoseok already targeting the snitch and moving towards it. The game also begins in motion, the Quaffle is thrown up and the first ball goes to Hufflepuff, a steady second year who gripped the Quaffle with a vice grip and headed to the Slytherin hoops. If there was one weakness to Slytherin, it would be their defense. Their Beaters were strong, sure, but they had weak Keepers.
Their Keeper hovered nervously around the rings, anticipating the Quaffle to be thrown to the center ring when a Bludger hits the second year’s broom, resulting in the Quaffle being released into the air and the second year to lose his balance. The Quaffle is swiftly picked up by a third year Slytherin as she flies straight to Hufflepuff’s hoops. There, guarding Hufflepuff’s goals was the famous, popular with ladies, Kim Seokjin. As the Quaffle and the Chaser approached Hufflepuff, feminine cries and sighs echoed from the crowd as Seokjin blows a flying kiss in their direction.
The Chaser had taken this moment of distraction to throw the Quaffle but years of experience resulted in Seokjin’s swift movement to the second hoop, deftly batting the Quaffle away and up into his hands. The Quaffle is thrown to the captain of the team, who was also the main chaser and the game was in full swing.
Yoongi, who watched all this happening from the sides could see Hoseok tiring out from chasing the Golden Snitch. Hoseok had been flat against his broom, moving up and down in sharp, almost neck breaking movements. The Golden Snitch however simply refused to slow down and it was about now where Yoongi steps into the game. As he presses his broom down to begin movement, he heard the Slytherin crowd ‘oooh’ in excitement and Hoseok’s sharp ears has always known that this is when Yoongi begins playing.
A tactful Slytherin who waits patiently for the energetic Hufflepuff to tire, a classic tactic used by all Slytherin seekers. Yoongi begins to move in the same direction of the snitch, leaving Hoseok temporarily in dust as he caught his breath. “You’re not getting away with this!” Hoseok wipes sweat from his forehead as he pushed his broom into the direction of Yoongi and the snitch. He gritted his teeth and by nature, his lips flattened and the Hufflepuff crowd applauded and cheered.
This is where the game really begins, with both Seekers now on the tail for the Golden Snitch. It would be about this time where Beaters of opposing teams attempt to slow down the Seeker’s process by aiming Bludgers to the ends of their brooms. It was illegal to hit a player with a Bludger directly, but there was no rule stating that the Beater was not allowed to hit the player’s broom – thus resulting in both teams attempting to bring down their opponent’s seekers.
Hoseok had stamina and speed, deftly avoiding flying Bludgers at an impressive speed. Yoongi has cleverly hidden next to Hoseok, allowing Hoseok to take most of the hits. The Golden Snitch was right in front of them now, slowing them just to tempt them until it stops in the middle.
A gasp escaped both their lips. The snitch had never stopped for anyone before. There was a split second where the two of them stared at each other in disbelief hence, a tussle begins. Yoongi smacks Hoseok’s broom with the end of his Firebolt and Hoseok does the same. They both engage in a broom whacking battle, whilst Bludgers flew above their heads and Quaffles were being thrown into hoops.
“Tonight, I feel like having meat, maybe Muggle world meat,” Yoongi smirks smacking Hoseok’s broom but at the same time, his hand was outstretched to grab the Golden Snitch that was just centimeters away from his hands.
“Same here, I can’t wait to order plates and plates of meat and not worry because you’re paying~” Hoseok teases, whacking Yoongi’s broom at the same time.
“Highly unlikely Hobi,” Yoongi states and whacks Hoseok’s broom with a higer brute force. Hoseok’s broom had been thrown back along with him, and as Hoseok attempted to regain back his balance on the broom, Yoongi was stretching for the Golden Snitch. His fingers clasp around the golden object when suddenly, it switches course and flies speedily in the direction of Hoseok.
With one hand on his broom, still attempting to stabilize himself, Hoseok’s weaker hand stretches out and grabs the Snitch mid-flight and the game ends. Loud cheers erupted from Hufflepuff and groans of disappointment from Slytherin. Yoongi just stared in the space where the Snitch was, for a few seconds, just within his reach was. ‘How the hell did it change direction out of nowhere?’ Yoongi thought to himself as they lowered themselves onto fields.
Both teams shook hands, with Hoseok grinning from ear to ear. “Meat, meat, meat!” he reminded Yoongi in a sing song voice, slinging his arm around Yoongi’s shoulder and walking off the pitch with their brooms in hand. “Cat got your tongue?”
“Still in shock that the Snitch literally changes direction as I was about to grab it,” Yoongi responds, shrugging off his Quidditch robes and resting the broom against his lockers. “A deal’s a deal Hobi, where do you feel like tonight?”
“Meat.” Hoseok responds in a ‘duh’ tone.
Yoongi sneaks a look in his wallet and sighs heavily. “That’s not fair you are going to spend as much as I spent in a month, within a single night.” Yoongi complains.
“Should’ve won then,” Hoseok cheekily remarks and Yoongi rolls his towel and flicks it in Hoseok’s direction, gaining a slightly feminine squeal from Hoseok. “Alright! I promise not to eat as much as last time,”
“Good,” Yoongi responds, pulling his shirt over his head to change. He stops midway and lowers his shirt down. “Also Hobi,” he calls just as Hoseok was about to exit the changing rooms in the same clothes as he played Quidditch in. “Take a shower, you stink like hell.” Yoongi pinches his nose. “That’s why I have more fans than you.”
Hoseok’s mouth formed an ‘O’ shape before smelling himself and snapping his head away. “Shut up.” He responds, a small blush across his face as he exits the changing rooms into the showers, with Yoongi chuckling behind the lockers.
