Despite numerous attempts of the boys telling Jimin that giving such extravagant gifts were unnecessary, he still loved handing over items he knew they would be so thankful for. It wasn’t because Jimin wanted to boast about his expansive budget, but because he just simply wanted to make his members happy.
That was why, the moment he opened his drawer beside his bed and took out the gift he had for Yoongi, Jimin could feel the pang of excitement that had been sizzling in him since last night. Yoongi had been mentioning about going to New York for months, and publicly at that. Jimin had been thinking about a giving his hyung a great birthday gift a few months ago, and plane tickets were the first that came to mind. It was a bit grand, yes, but the next thing he knew, he’d already bought tickets for seven. He knew his hyung would be incredibly happy to see it, and he was so excited to show it to him at long last.
It was five in the morning, and the flight was in five hours. In order for the others to prepare their bags in advance, Jimin had told them – excluding the birthday boy, of course – beforehand about today’s schedule, which was specially arranged by Jimin himself. Convincing their managers wasn’t easy, but he was glad to have been given permission after countless pleadings (and maybe some slight bribery).
Jimin got up from his bed with light steps, making sure not to shock his roommates awake – he’d do that later. He tiptoed out of their room and towards Yoongi and Jin’s. He swore he could feel his heart beat faster with every step he took. He’d been so excited about this day since he got the tickets, and now it was time to do the big reveal.
The moment Jimin opened Yoongi and Jin’s unlocked room (“Please don’t lock it, Hyung.” Jimin had said. “But what if burglars suddenly kick their way inside!” Jin replied. “Hyung, no burglars can ever make their way inside our dorm, and I need to wake Yoongi-hyung in the early morning!” “Why can’t I just wake him up myself,” Jin had whined. “Well, you should have bought the tickets yourself.”), his eyes immediately laid on Yoongi’s sleeping figure. His whole body was laid out all over his bed with one of his legs sticking out of the frame. His mouth was slightly open, and his eyes were peacefully shut closed. It took a lot for Jimin not to stare, or at least blow out a sudden laugh.
Jimin put his hands on his hyung’s arm and gave him a light shake. “Hyung,” he whispered.
“Mmm.” Yoongi shifted from his position and laid down sideways.
“Yoongi-hyung,” Jimin tried again, his left hand gripping the tickets tighter in eagerness.
“Mmmmm.”
“Hyung, wake up.” This time, Jimin shook Yoongi a tad bit harder.
Yoongi’s eyebrows knit together immediately, lazily shoving Jimin’s hand off his arm. “What do you want, Jimin.”
Jimin leaned over his hyung’s ear. He couldn’t help but let an enthusiastic smile escape his mouth as he said, “wake up so I can give you your gift.”
One of Yoongi’s eyes slowly popped open, his other eye following short after. His voice was slightly raspy as he said, “Exactly what kind of gift do you possibly have to wake me up at–” Yoongi squinted his eyes to look at the wall clock facing him “–five in the goddamn morning.”
Jimin raised the seven plane tickets in his hand and showed them to Yoongi. “Hyung,” he said. “We’re going to New York.”
At that moment, Jimin knew his gift was worth everything he’d worked hard for, because the look on his hyung’s face was priceless.
