Work Text:
"Moving to Seoul wasn't a good idea." Min Yoonji said to herself as soon as she realized what she have got after transferring from Daegu.
Flying books which seemed made from sorcery welcomed her. The place was so noisy as if you've entered a jungle full of wild monkeys. The stereotypical high school that she wasn't used of.
Culture shocked from the chaotic environment she have entered, she fathom to keep that resting bitch face as she stands up in front of her new so called classmates.
"I'm Min Yoonji. Nice to meet you all." She didn't gave a single effort to show even a half smile. Apparently, she never smile unless she likes to.
After the introductory, she sat near the window, the only thing in this day which she's in favor. Yoonji being contented having an emo seat mate who isn't bothering her nor speaking a single word, she thought the school isn't that bad after all.
But not after the free time where everyone were like monkeys in the park strolling for bananas. Yoonji's temper is at high risk.
Yoonji was about to save her sanity and cool by going out of the class, breathe some fresh air when a guy like sunshine came smiling at her along with a handsome tall guy and a smarty nerd with wide framed glasses.
"Hello! I'm Hoseok!!!" He exclaimed which made Yoonji want to leave this hell already. He can't stand how vibrant his aura from her gloomy one.
"I'm Jin. You wanna hear some joke? Knock knock," rolling an eye with her arms crossed across her chest, she calmly replied, "The door is open for you to leave."
Savage as she may be, everyone seemed to hear everything that they laughed along starting with Hoseok's lead.
"Anyway, I'm Namjoon. I'm the least peculiar and rackety in here so you can count on me." Yoonji seemed convinced as she gave a slight smile to Namjoon.
Someone's pretty decent here, finally.
It wasn't that bad when the three of them wanted to be friend with Yoonji, but do not expect she'll make any effort to start a conversation.
The class went on as free time came again since their teacher was absent, Yoonji thought she can already roam around and leave the room for a while but a guy with blonde hair sat beside her while wearing a smile in his face. She couldn't deny, she finds the guy good looking.
But Yoonji's not in the mood to make conversation so her face appeared stoic.
Yoonji seeing the guy up close was much more handsome now seeing his facial features. His eyes weren't much visible when he's smiling. He had white complexion. His lips full and pink. The young man being gorgeous is an understatement, honestly.
The transferee diverted her attention off the guy when she realized she was thinking about him for a minute now. Good thing the young man doesn't mind.
This is hell embarrassing.
"I'm Park Jimin–" cutting off the guy's introduction, Yoonji just said a random shit causing a lot of embarrassment which she just wish an alien would abduct her.
"I have a gun in my bag. Piss off." After realizing the embarrassment, Yoonji immediately run out of the class before she could even see Jimin's reaction. Her mouth couldn't mutter such decent words if it weren't Jimin's presence was distracting.
Walking to absolute nowhere, her phone vibrated as her ringtone bawled throughout the quiets of the hallway.
"Kim Taehyung, where the fuck are you?" Yoonji abruptly said which only brought her childhood best friend into laughter.
"I'm sorry Yoonji, I'm in New York. Something came up."
She knew her best friend was lying. He often lies, honestly.
"Came up like what? Came up to have vacation in the middle of first semester?" Taehyung just laughed it out getting used of his friend being all grumpy.
Thinking of something to bribe her and to calm his grumpy friend, he said "I bought something for you from Gucci."
"Okay, go home quickly." Yoonji said at lightning speed.
"Yeah. See you in two days." then he hung up. He knew it'll work.
Taehyung was a friend back in Daegu but moved to Seoul before Yoonji. Enrolling to the same school of her best friend she thought her first day would be nice since there's someone she can be with but the rich young man just thought of going on vacation all of a sudden and purchase Gucci and expensive items in NYC. So the grumpy transferee ends up a chaotic first day.
Sighing, she looked at her wristwatch. It's already near dismissal, she should go back now.
Yoonji walking back her classroom wished that she'll never cross paths with Jimin again but first thing that she saw as soon as she set foot inside the class was Jimin sitting in his desk, legs crossed whilst busy reading a book.
She didn't bother enough, treating Jimin just like thin air and swing her bag around her back. She's hell damn ready to go home.
She needs some rest.
-
It was always boring after the trio would settled down on their seats. Namjoon reading philosophical fiction books, Jin eating nonetheless and Hoseok dancing in beat with headphones on. There was nothing else for Yoonji to do but sleep. Today is already at the peak of a fiery summer and Yoonji can't stand sleeping in such hot classroom.
She stands up her seat after formulated a solution. She just needs a room with air-condition, and the nearest one was the Library. Getting hyped of the thought of the cool breeze fanning on her skin, the youngster runs fast for the first time.
As expected, the library was quite packed with students not because they're here to read, well pretending to be, yes, but obviously they're here just to get cooled off the flaming heat outside. Yoonji starts to find a vacant seat and saw a table near the window being occupied by a guy alone.
The youngster immediately went near the vacant seat then asked the guy. "Can I sit here?"
The guy lifted up his gazed, Yoonji kinda got startled when the guy was pretty gorgeous too. He had warm brown hair with streaks of pink at the end, his eyes kinda wide but appears cold and he had several piercings– three in the lower left ear, one in the lower right and two helix piercings in the right ear. It may look badass for some but it's hot for Yoonji, she doesn't show it of course.
The guy simply nodded and his attention went back to the book he's reading. It was fine for Yoonji that this guy is giving her a cold treatment since she was her to sleep, not to make friends. But the grumpy youngster wanted to know the guy's name and luckily she saw the nameplate pinned in the guy's chest.
Jungkook. Jeon Jungkook is his name.
Before Jungkook would look back at Yoonji and accuse her a weirdo, Yoonji placed her head on the table and covered her eyes with her arms. As the cool breeze starts to wrap Yoonji's warm exterior slowly she feels drowsy til she fell asleep.
Jungkook wasn't bothered by the sleeping youngster in fact he doesn't care the least, but honestly it wasn't allowed to sleep here. Trying not to make a fuss to wake the transferee up, Jungkook placed a book near Yoonji's face to look like as if she's reading when she not. That way, Yoonji would get more sleep and wouldn't get kicked out of the library.
After several hours of snoozing Yoonji finally went back to life, her eyes puffed and her hands left a mark on her face. Jungkook slightly laughed but Yoonji didn't hear that.
Yoonji looked at Jungkook resting his head on his palm looking at her, suddenly, the grumpy youngster got conscious of her looks.
What if she still had sleeps in her eyes? What if drool marks are still there? What if her hair is a big mess? What if he doesn't care? Well, obviously he doesn't.
"What time is it?" she asked with her bored tone not really minding her looks right now. "Half past ten,"
"Fuck." she realizes she skipped classes.
"I need to go. Thanks Jungkook." he smiled a bit still had the cold aura and said "Bye, Yoonji."
First time in this week, Yoonji smiled genuinely.
-
Earlier today just around six o' clock, Yoonji woke up before the alarm buzzed. It was the cold air breeze which made her wake up than usual, she wasn't an early bird, honestly.
Yoonji sat on her bed for a few minutes and recalled what the hell happened for the past few days. It was really stressing, not like the academicwise stress but more like stress from the new environment.
It wasn't as if she's hating everything in her new school, in fact not much students wanted to be friends with her. Maybe because of her grumpy cold aura but she couldn't care less. The grumpy youngster was specifically stressing about the trio; Hoseok, Jin and Namjoon but actually, it's mainly about Jimin's reaction since she never got to see the young man for a while.
Brushing of the train of thoughts about that blonde young man, Yoonji turned to see the clock and realized she have been sitting on the bed for quite too long. She's running late.
Not really minding if she'll start moving quickly, she rather munched her bread slowly as she can. The thought of going to school was never interesting anyway.
So took her time contemplating life as she forced herself to put on her uniform. She was already an hour late so the grumpy youngster didn't exert much effort to hurry herself to go to class. What's the point anyway?
Confidently walking pass the gate expecting her to go to class smoothly, she never thought the school had strict rules on tardiness. A teacher she never seen before had her arms crossed, looking at her with eyebrows raised.
"In the office, now." not protesting, not even minding everything at the moment, Yoonji just followed the teacher to where the hell she'll go.
It was better in the office than in classroom if you ask Yoonji. Free from bullshits, her classmate, the teachers and the lessons of course. That was why it felt like home as she sits comfortably when they arrived in the guidance office. The teacher finds her weird that way.
"Well Ms. Min, I know this is your first time being so late in class but we need to take consequences from your action." Yoonji's not much paying attention to everything the teacher said but to appear that she's listening, she endlessly nods everytime the teacher speaks.
"Not because you're new in this school doesn't mean we'll give you an exemption–" Yoonji didn't let the teacher's lecture finish and straightforwardly replied,
"Fine with me." adding up a slight smile as she looked at the teacher's eyes.
The teacher's expression was priceless. It wasn't as if normal to see someone willing to have her punishment wholeheartedly. Well, Yoonji had her reasons for it, not just to impress this teacher in front of her but for the benefit of not attending class was the main thing.
"Okay... but for consideration because this is only the first time and I think there is some valid reason behind your tardiness I'll assign the student council for your punishment." the youngers just nodded and excused herself to go to the student council instead.
She laughed at the thought of the teacher's consideration. Valid reason my ass. As if being late in purpose is considered a valid reason. She rather not gave such kind thought.
It wasn't long enough that Yoonji reached the student council, it was just around the corner. Somehow the youngers plastered a smiled not reaching the ear as she opened the door. But in a mere second her expression changed when she saw who the hell was seating in the president position.
The blonde young man lifted his gaze up to Yoonji. He was shocked at first but then showed his everlasting smile on his face.
"Good morning, Yoonji." He stands up to see more of the youngster but she appears grumpy as usual and makes her way near to Jimin.
"I'm not expecting you to be here as a president, Jimin." she deadpanned now sitting across Jimin.
"I'm not expecting you to be here either, Yoonji." the young man retorted, his smile never fades.
"Don't expect me to be decent like everyone, Mr. President." the grumpy youngster said, her voice slowly appearing bored.
Jimin didn't mind Yoonji's grumpy attitude, well in fact he was kinda getting a hang of it.
"Why'd you got late anyway?" Jimin asked, interrogating to find a fitting punishment for Yoonji.
"I overslept." she said her elbow now resting on Jimin's table and her chin placed on her palm.
"Can't you get more sentimetal?" Yoonji frown and finally looked at Jimin straight in the eyes. This is honestly her first time seeing Jimin's hazel eyes. Her heart suddenly fluttered. But no, not today please.
Before the youngster reply, she cleared her throat and mentally hit heart heart to stop it from beating than usual. Get your fucking senses together, heart.
"So do you want me say, "Something urgent just came that's why I got late." Is that what you want?" Yoonji mocked but the young man snapped his fingers and his smile grew wider. "Exactly,"
Yoonji wasn't so sure what to do with this young man because apparently, he should radiate morally good shits but look at him now. Smiling as if letting the grumpy youngster slip off the punishment was just fine.
"Now write that down on the paper and you're free go to." Yoonji groaned but didn't say a thing.
Not that she doubt everything as if Jimin's plan was some kind of joke like his highly position, she just fabricated her reason as what have the president just ordered her to do. Because obviously, Jimin's saving her ass today and she should be thankful at least.
After a few minutes of writing down lies, Yoonji lazely passed her admission slip to Jimin. The blonde young man read the slip to make sure that it's believable enough for the guidance counselor. Contented enough, he smiled at Yoonji.
"Went to a doctor for check-up early in the morning huh, interesting." Jimin teased, "Fuck off, I'm leaving." then without any byes Yoonji left Jimin.
The grumpy youngster went straight to her class, bowed down when the teacher diverted her gaze to Yoonji. "I'm sorry I'm late."
Her teacher wasn't one of those strict shits so she just let Yoonji slip. Now confidently walking towards her seat, the vacant one in front of her spot is now occupied. Her eyes wide open as she looks at the guy with silky brown hair, his glasses placed at the back of his head and those rectangular smile was so familiar she nearly shouted in the middle of class. Taehyung finally arrived.
"Ssup Yoons," Tae winks. "You fucker, where's my Gucci?"
Yoonji sits down as she hits her best friend in his shoulders.
"Language, my friend." he laughs and squeezes Yoonji's cheeks. "I'll drop by your apartment later."
The youngster smiled patting Tae in the head like a stray puppy. "That's my friend."
They both just laughed and faced the front before the teacher scolds them. Right after the bell rang for free time, Yoonji and Tae got to talk to each other coping up the time that have passed.
Yoonji was actually different when she's with Taehyung. She smiles a lot rather than keeping a poker face. She laughs loudly without caring if others can hear her. She talks a lot rather than keeping everything to herself and keeps herself quiet. She was the opposite, rather, she's really open to her best friend. Because for Yoonji, Taehyung was the only one she trusts even back in Daegu.
"What's with the tardiness, Yoons? Feeling it again?" Yoonji snorts. "Nah, apartment's kinda cozy i wanna stay longer."
Tae leaned forward to his best friend and flicked a finger at Yoonji's forehead. Yoonji flinched in pain.
"Liar." he flatly said. He knew his friend well but he'll let Yoonji slip.
"Anyway, help me find the book that Namjoon hyung had recommended." Yoonji nods and stands up. "Sure, where to?"
Taehyung rolled his eyes and stands up beside his friend. "To the library of course."
Yoonji and Taehyung walked their way to the library. Tae immediately searched through the shelves, Yoonji in the other hand searches for someone, looking at the same spot near the windows.
She has seen Jungkook often here everytime she goes to the library to sleep. And in those times, she sleeps beside Jungkook. And both of them sits at their usual spot.
"Hey Yoons! Help me out!" Tae whispers, enough to be heard by Yoonji.
Enough of searching for him, Yoonji went to Taehyung and helps him to find the book. After Yoonji tries to ask the librarian which Tae didn't thought of, they easily found it.
"Use your head sometimes." Yoonji scoffs but Taehyung just smiled. "That's why I have you as friend, Yoons."
He winks and runs away from Yoonji before he could get hit by his best friend's metal hand. Taehyung walked around searching for a vacant seat then he saw a friend and went towards him.
"Jungkook!" Tae called out, Yoonji suddenly looked at her best friend.
Taehyung choked Jungkook by giving him a sudden hug, Jungkook's book fell on the floor. He smiled at the sight of Taehyung and both exchanged brofists.
She wasn't expecting this.
"Hey Yoons! C'mere!" Yoonji finally gets over Tae being friends with Jungkook and finally her search is over.
Yoonji sits across Jungkook like the usual and Tae sits between them, facing the wide glass window.
"Yoons, this is–" Yoonji countinued Tae's introduction. "Jungkook."
Taehyung frowns. "Have you two–" Jungkook butted in, completing Taehyung's question. "Met already? Well, yes."
Tae rolled his eyes again and placed his book on the table with quite force to make a sound.
"Would both of you stop cutting me when I'm speaking?" both just laughed and Yoonji pats her best friend's shoulder.
"How'd you met Yoonji, Jungkook? It's honestly impossible for both grumpies to be friends."
Yoonji realizes, Jungkook was like a boy version of her. A cold grumpy type of person but is actually opposite of it when it comes to Taehyung.
"Yoonji was finding a cold place to sleep and the only vacant seat that time was across mine." Tae nods, imagining the whole situation. "Well, Yoons is the type to be shameless when needed anyway."
Tae shrugs, and Yoonji just rolled her eyes.
And that day officially, Yoonji knows she'll see Jungkook everyday.
-
The following days went by like the usual.
Yoonji and Taehyung goes to school together. Hoseok, Jin and Namjoon talks to Yoonji often somehow getting along with her. Yoonji sees Jungkook everyday in the library because of Taehyung since Jungkook is in the other class. And Jimin would tease and have a light conversation with Yoonji when he have time.
"I haven't seen Jimin lately," Tae suddenly said.
"I think work's kinda tough for him." Jin added.
"I've seen Jimin overtimes a lot working so hard in the council." Hoseok said his voice worried.
"We should do something for Jimin at least. He needs rest too." Namjoon suggested and everyone agrees.
"Let's invite him for lunch! I cooked a lot for breafast and brought some." Everyone except Yoonji got excited after Jin showed several lunch boxes from his bag.
"Yoonji's in charge of calling Jimin in the council!" Tae suggest as everyone agrees. Yoonji couldn't protest no more.
"Why'd the hell your appointing me with that?" Yoonji complains. Taehyung gave her friend a smile while wiggling his eyebrows.
"Jimin ordered me to run a lap yesterday because I was ten minutes late but he just let you write an admission slip and you're way too late than I do. That's quite unreasonable if he treats you just a friend." he winked but his friend wasn't reacting like he wanted her to react.
"It was my first time being late," Yoonji reasoned out.
"Jimin made me carry the chairs back in the storage room when I was late the first time." Hoseok also demanded.
"Then go to Jimin to resolve your complaints." Yoonji just yawned, bored while the four of them groaned in her bitchy attitude again.
Lunch time came Yoonji didn't call Jimin for lunch so Tae did it instead. The grumpy youngster didn't join them for lunch and went back to her apartment to get her project. She forgot to pass it beforehand.
Timing was good when she went back to school before the ring bells. It was already Math period so she hurried up and decided to pass her project later when free time comes.
"Right in time, Yoons." Yoonji gave a high five to Tae who was waiting for her. "I had to eat lunch too of course."
"You could've just joined us." Taehyung whines. "No thanks, Tae."
The period went on, Tae just copies Yoonji's answers all the time. Math was hard this time but Yoonji managed to perfect it and of course Taehyung got the same score.
Two subjects to go before free time, it was already getting boring. Tae was already dozing off. Yoonji had a glimpse of Jin disturbing Namjoon in front and Hoseok was fighting himself not the sleep in class.
The ring of bells was like sweets calls ending their painful boring classes. Yoonji immediately grab her project and wake Taehyung up.
"I'll go pass this to our English teacher." Yoonji said.
"Go ahead, Yoons. Just meet me in the library." Tae retorted still half asleep.
She went as fast as she could to go to her teacher's office. It was quite far from their building but Yoonji doesn't have a choice. On her way, she had a glimpse of the council. Everyone was quite busy and she saw Jimin was kinda stressed out.
Yoonji didn't bother and walked towards the office. Successfully passing her work she went back to their building and straight to the library.
Their spot near the window is pretty seen from the library entrance, Jungkook was already there. Yoonji thought Tae was already there but she knew her best friend didn't have long hair and probably Tae wasn't a girl.
Clearing off negative thoughts in her mind. She thought Jungkook was just talking to a friend. But Taehyung suddenly appeared beside Yoonji and said.
"So Jungkook's still with his girlfriend. That's nice."
For Yoonji, it wasn't. It only brought her throat burning, her eyes sweating and her heart slowly tearing. But she smiled at Tae and said,
"Yeah. You're right."
Yoonji's smiled turned grimace but it wasn't visible from her resting bitch face. She knew her growing feelings wouldn't invest and today that brought a pang that it wouldn't ever happen.
She thought that everyday they see each other, Jungkook smiling at her was a sign of something but in reality he only sees Yoonji as friend all along. His kindness was natural for him, but she gave it meaning. They are just friends for Jungkook. Nothing more, nothing less.
"I guess we wouldn't like to interrupt those lovebirds," Yoonji suggests. "I agree. Want to go back to the class, Yoons?"
Yoonji shakes her head, refusing. "I still have an errand to do. Go sleep again, I'll just go back later."
Taehyung nods and both parted ways. Yoonji seemed to walk nowhere, her thoughts can't get off Jungkook and her girlfriend. She wasn't mad at Jungkook, honestly. Yoonji is mad at herself by expecting so much that it hurts her.
Walking pass a vending machine, she stops and bought a can of coffee to boost her up. Drinking it straight like wine when brokenhearted, she saw Jimin so stressed out sitting on a bench near his office. His soft blonde hair is now running messily. His eyes closed and hands massaging his neck. Seeing the stressed young man alone she decided to buy another can and went near to Jimin.
Yoonji touched the cold can on Jimin's neck. The young man gazed up to see Yoonji standing in front of her. Yoonji sits beside him and offers her a can of cold coffee.
"Thanks." he smiled, never failed to smile in front of Yoonji.
"You look stressed." Yoonji flatly said looking at Jimin.
"I see," Jimin replied sighing.
"Work?" Yoonji asks words shorter but manages to start a conversation. "Yup. Officers kinda slack around now we have piles of work."
The youngster wasn't so sure what to say. She wasn't good at giving advice either.
"Cheer up, Jimin." she gave slight smile.
"Feels like something's up. You're nice to me."
Yoonji snorts as she remembered Jungkook again. Jimin's smile grew wider.
"Anyway, thanks Yoonji. I should go back to work now." Yoonji waved a hand.
"Rest is still necessary, Jimin." Yoonji reminded. Jimin laughed.
"Got it."
For a short period of time she forgots about her pathetic feelings for Jungkook and now she'll suffer from it throughout the whole night.
-
She wasn't crying overnight like she expect her to. It made her colder instead.
Yoonji stopped going to the library even if her best friend forces her. She knew it would only make her depress.
Taehyung sometimes can't get a hang of his best friend's attitude. He knew something's up that made the old Yoonji colder than before.
"What happened, Yoons?" Tae asks repeatedly. "For fucking sake, nothing happened, Tae."
Taehyung sighing he knew what happened again. But he let his friend be. He knows it gets better as time pass by, hopefully.
"I'll be going to the library, okay?" Yoonji just nods. Not looking at Tae.
Hoseok wanted to talk to Yoonji but he knew he'd get flop. Worrying now is the only thing he can do.
Yoonji bored to death stands up from her seat and went out of the class to freshen up her mind a bit. She needs something to calm her down. Walking again to nowhere, her feet brought her to the third floor. She she's the music room.
It was ages since she last played. This maybe of help in her circumstances.
Yoonji was about to turn the knob when she heard someone playing the piano already. It was no use to stay but the music seemed to make her stay for a while.
Yoonji got curious of who's been behind playing Monlight Sonata. She peeked at the small glass frame of the door. The young man's broad shoulders welcomed her, his hair soft and blonde. His presence was so familiar she already knew who is it.
Jimin.
She falls the the ground, contented on seating on the floor. She stayed sitting near the door as she hears the music which Jimin was playing, engulfing the feeling of sorrow of the piano piece. It was as if the music was fitting for her, or was it currently what Jimin feels. After the Sonata ends, Yoonji stands up and went back to the class before Jimin could see her.
Walking back to class, Yoonji paused for a while she placed a hand on her chest, it's throbbing than usual. This isn't good.
Weeks have passed. Days wasted to thin air. Minutes getting colder. Seconds never changed how Min Yoonji felt after that day.
"Earth to Min fucking Yoonji." Tae says. Yoonji looks at her best friend.
"What?" Tae sighs and sips his coffee instead.
It's a sunny weekend and Tae invites Yoonji to a coffee shop near their flat. Yoonji was spending so much time sleeping it worries Taehyung a lot.
"You know I'm your best friend, right?" Yoonji nods.
"You know me better than I am, Tae." Yoonji responds.
Tae knew already what's happening. Yoonji knows her best friend is crazy but he's clever in things like this. He was dumb to not know that history repeats itself and probably it's what Yoonji experiencing right now.
"I've expected something again," Yoonji laughs. "I'm really pathetic."
"Yoons."
"It's alright, Tae. I'm fighting this mental fucking illness just fine." she gave a plain smile to Tae.
"You know I'm always here to help." his voice over flowing with worry.
"Yeah. I'll get over this obsessive thoughts soon as possible. Maybe some of your Gucci can help."
The mood suddenly cheered up both laughing.
"Just don't take my Gucci slippers." Tea warns, Yoonji smirks.
"Well that was the one I wanted."
"Fuck no."
-
A to the G to the U to the STD–
"Fuck you Kim Taehyung I'm damn fucking sleeping." Yoonji replies on the phone not even opening an eye.
"Sleeping isn't allowed when it gets eight A.M, Yoons. Get up, sleepyhead." She opened one eye, the phone's brightness blinds her for a second then she finally saw the time.
She's already late.
"I'll just go to school later." Yoonji said, bored and about to go back to sleep.
"You know being late is better than being absent, Yoons." Tae reminds her. She suddenly cursed.
Taehyung once said, he was absent for no reason and he got parent's call up. Min Yoonji wouldn't want her parents to suddenly travel to Seoul because of her misbehavior. Never gonna happen that she'll see her parents again.
She hurried up, not even eating breakfast. After fixing herself up she speeds up running to the nearest bus station. After ten minutes or so, she finally saw the fucking gate of her school.
Panting, breathing for air as she stands hands on her knees, she saw Jimin smiling as usual as he walks near her.
"You really expected me to be here, do you?" Jimin offers Yoonji a bottled water and the grumpy youngster didn't refuse.
"A bit," Yoonji rolls her eyes. "Liar."
Jimin laughs, his voice kinda feels so soothing than irritating. That made Yoonji smile at least.
"Shall we?" Jimin said, leading the way to his office.
"Are you letting me slip this time again?" Jimin smirks then shrugs. "Depends on your reasons of course."
Their talk was continued at the Student Council. Jimin leaning on his table with Yoonji sits comfortably across the blonde young man.
"So what's the reason this time?" Yoonji shrugs. "I feel lethargic."
"That ain't acceptable for the guidance counselor, Yoonji." Jimin warns. "I know."
"I wanted to skip the class and come before lunch but absent sounds so worst I can't just ignore it." Jimin frowns. "You don't want a call up, do you?"
"Seeing my parents here would be hell." Yoonji deadpanned, Jimin rather not make fun of it.
"What do you mean?"
"Don't even bother asking."
"I'm all ears."
"You're so persistent," Jimin shrugs smiling.
"Telling you my tale would take up much of our time, I rather not start it." Jimin looks at the wall clock and then looks back at Yoonji smiling.
"Literature, General Math and Stoichiometry teachers are out, I think three hours is enough to briefly spill your tale." Yoonji sighs.
She deeply breathes, sighed for the second time and remembered every little detail of her tale.
"Hearing my mom's name would terrify me. She wasn't very inviting. Before, I'd miss her every second but growing up I rather not see her again. I thought things were alright, I thought her being strict proves her a good mother. But as time pass by I can feel she secluded me from people. She planted a world where only I am the person as she manipulated me as if I'm a puppet."
Yoonji looked elsewhere not dropping a gaze to Jimin. The young man waits and listens.
"She starts physically abusing me when I started home schooling. Even just when I breathe she chokes me. When I do mistakes she'll hit me. When I cry she drowns me. Like in the first place she just wants to kill me. My existence was never important. It will never be since I'm a child from my dad's whore. I was made by mistake– no, I myself is a living mistake."
Jimin saw Yoonji's jaw clenched, her hands turned to fists. She was angry of the thoughts still raw in her mind.
"It was like a daily routine. Mom would hurt me day and night at some point I got numb and made me emotionless. I was already accepting death because how could you fucking survive after being physically, mentally and emotionally abused? I was so fucked I didn't see any light that could help me. My dad wouldn't care anyway. He goes home late night and leaves early in the morning. How would he fucking know her daughter was nearly dying if he keeps fucking whore at bars every fucking night after his work. Damn I hated my life."
Jimin tries to calm Yoonji. He placed his hand on top of Yoonji's, slowly the warmth of the young man calms her down.
"Then when I thought I'll be dead, my grandparents suddenly came to visit and saw me drenched with my own blood and tears. My body full of raw bruises and my cuts still bleeding. Finally I was saved from hell. But even I moved out of hell it always felt like hell. I had post-traumatic stress disorder. Life wasn't easy when a scar from hell would be carved for the rest of your life and everytime you look at it you'll always remember how it felt like back there. Still raw as if you're still there. It made me develop anxiety disorder. I change moods. I get obsessive thoughts. I get depressed a lot. This aftermaths still lingers through my veins I still live in fear."
"And everytime someone hurts me physically, emotionally or mentally, this aftermaths triggers me to be the person I shouldn't used to be."
A tear fell from Yoonji's eyes following another until you couldn't count. After years of bottling it up, she finally lets go of the burden she kept a long time ago.
Jimin hugged Yoonji, burries her head on Jimin's chest. Somehow she finds peace in him, a bit of comfort that she haven't felt after she left her grandparents. He suddenly felt like haven.
"You'll get over this." Jimin says calming her down. His voice seems music that Yoonji wouldn't stop playing it.
Hushing Yoonji for about an hour and a minute she finally gets okay. Her eyes kinda getting better not leaving a trace that she cried, her nose kinda stuffed she'll just lie to Tae that she was sick. She never wanted her best friend to worry so much about her.
Before Jimin and Yoonji enters the class, Yoonji turns to Jimin giving her one genuine smile.
"Thanks for hearing me out." Jimin's smile appears, mesmerizing the grumpy youngster again and again.
"Anytime, Yoonji."
"Now go hug Taehyung and others because they've been worried for the past weeks." Jimin pushes Yoonji near the door. Yoonji just lets him be, appearing lethargic again.
"Yoons finally you're here! I thought Jimin already abducted you or something!" Tae immediately run to his best friend and gave her a hug. Hoseok, Jin and namjoon followed.
"I'm sorry guys I kept you worrying." Yoonji sincerely says, the trio joined in the group hug.
"It's okay, Yoonji. Just be fine."
Then there starts Hoseok's drama and Jin ruins the mood by telling his dad jokes.
-
It was never dull since then.
Taehyung still a supportive mom spoiling her best friend some of his Gucci. Hoseok makes sure Yoonji smiles everyday even though it's hard. Jin always feeds Yoonji not letting her starve one bit. Namjoon helps Yoonji in the lessons she finds difficult. Jungkook, well, Yoonji slowly gets to smile when they casually meet in the hallway. And Jimin, Yoonji falls deeper in love with him as days passes by.
Yoonji was so spoiled by her friends, she never thought she deserves any.
"Yoons! Mom just arrived Seoul I need to go!" Yoonji nods. "Say hi to your mom for me." then Tae dashes off.
His flat's a mess he wouldn't want his mom witness it.
Hoseok in the other hand have dance practice. Jin still here waiting for Namjoon and Namjoon still here to teach Yoonji Mathematics.
"Do you get it?" Namjoon asks after explaining the solution of the problem. Yoonji nods.
"Let's just continue this tutoring tomorrow. My head hurts like hell." Jin and Namjoon laughed.
They went home together after a few minutes. Yoonji stayed, finishing her homework before her memory of mathematics expires. Next thing she knew it was near nighttime.
Stretching her arms, she fixed her eyes looking only outside the window. Suddenly the thought of Jimin pops up in her mind.
The young man is always busy, he never got to rest during free time. Yoonji worries a lot of course.
He's very diligent in his work tries very hard to make everything perfect. He's very kind that it fears Yoonji that Jimin treats everyone like how he treats Yoonji. After all, he's overflowing with kindness as if it's all natural for him, well honestly it is.
She suddenly shivers when the cold breeze touched her pale skin. She really needs to go home before she freezes. It was already near winter.
Packing up her things and putting everything in her bag, she felt a warm presence existing and she wasn't all alone. She turned her gaze to the door and there she saw the man of her dreams. Standing, presence overflowing with charms, his eyes kinda droopy obviously tired, hair a bit mess but makes him more handsome to Yoonji's eyes.
"You're still here, Yoonji." Jimins smiles, Yoonji refuses to give attention to her throbbing heart against her chest.
"It's not like prohibited to stay here late, Jiminie." she suddenly cursed as she spill a fucking nickname for Jimin.
Jimin's smile grew wider. Yoonji can't take that back. Fucking nicknames.
"That's cute," Jimin mutters, Yoonji's voice still lingers. "Shut the fuck up."
He just laughed, Yoonji rolls her eyes fighting herself not to smile instead.
"Let's go home together, Yoons." Yoonji frowns. "It's the first time hearing you calling me that."
"I heard Tae calls you that all the time." Yoonji frowns even more.
"Can't have your originality, Minnie?" Jimin's lips turned up making a smile.
"Mint."
Yoonji looks at him almost eyebrows forming one line.
"Why is that?" Jimin smiles.
"You're a combination of fluff and angst but I can still find warmth in the midst of cold winter."
Yoonji can't hide her smile anymore. Her cheeks now flushed pink, her eyes forms cresent that Jimin thinks it's the best sight he have seen tonight.
"Peachy." Yoonji says, her gummy smile appears. Her smile somewhat promotes world peace and women empowerment.
"Then you'll be my peach." Jimin makes his way near Yoonji. Both looking into each others eyes.
"Mint and peaches doesn't match, Yoonji." Jimin retorts, his nose begining to get red because of the cold temperature.
"Well, they do now."
Both looked at each other, feeling each others silence, smile never fades off their lips. Yoonji can't stop her heart beating than usual and she didn't plan to stop it either.
Jimin and Yoonji walks home, holding hands. Enjoying one's company.
"By the way, never thought you're poetic." Yoonji laughs, Jimin rolls his eyes. "This is Namjoon's fault."
As they both walking happily to the bus station, a stray thought came to Yoonji's mind making her to retrieve her hand from Jimin's warm hands. Jimin frowns.
"Wait a minute," Yoonji stopped walking.
"What is it?" Jimin asks.
"Can I ask a question?" Jimin nods. "Ask me anything."
"Is this an act of kindness?" Yoonji asks assuring herself. Jimin nearly cursed but luckily he got hold of his mouth and sighs.
"Are you doubting my feelings, Yoonji?" she shakes her head.
"No of course! But you're a public figure, role model and such. I've seen your kindness towards others and sincerity in everything you do. I sometimes wonder if I've been treated like how you treated everyone. I–"
"I've never let anyone slip from a rough punishment due to their tardiness. I've never break rules, Yoonji." Jimin says, his voice now serious.
"Even though time have been limited for me, it was always tiring but I still manage to tease you and talk to you because that way I can see your rare smile, your eyes cold but vulnerable, and your warm presence makes me feel loved. It makes my day less tiring."
Yoonji couldn't mutter anything, her mouth hanged open not really expecting Jimin to confess. Her heart beats faster, her cheeks couldn't deny any feelings.
"And now I've never been so cheesy confessing to someone I've secretly love." Yoonji cups Jimin's cold face, warming it up and smiles.
"You should possess a lot of patience dealing with my grumpy attitude." Jimin smiles. "I've always been dealing with your attitude, grumpy."
Yoonji pouts.
"Can't you just say "I love you"?" Jimin giggles. Stealing a kiss from Yoonji.
"I love you too, Mint Yoonji."
Then there starts Jimin dating the grumpy youngster, he didn't even regret. Dealing with Yoonji's attitude becomes a routine and loving her becomes his lifetime purpose.
