It was the Kuroko twins' first day at Teiko Middle School, the middle school their thirty-year-old father, Kuroko Tetsuya, attended. It was also the day when all the clubs had their own booths set up for the new students to visit and learn about the clubs before deciding which one to join. The two identical twins Kuroko Tetsui and Kuroko Tetsumi, both twelve years old, knew exactly which club they were going to join. They headed straight for the basketball club booth. The second year first string basketball team captain Nagata Saita was at the booth. The two twins ran up to the booth.
"We would like to join the basketball club." The twins said simultaneously, startling the second year captain. Nagata jumped and rubbed his eyes and blinked. What he saw were two first years who both looked exactly like Kuroko Tetsuya who was known as the Phantom Sixth Man who played alongside the Generation of Miracles when he went to Teiko.
"G-great! What are your names?" Nagata said to the twins.
"I'm Kuroko Tetsui." The older of the twins said.
"And I'm Kuroko Tetsumi." The younger twin answered him. He was shocked at the coincidence that the twins looked exactly like Kuroko Tetsuya and even shared the same surname.
"Are you two Kuroko Tetsuya's sons?" He asked the twins.
"Yes, we are." The older twin, Tetsui, answered back.
"Our father was a first year here seventeen years ago and graduated fourteen years ago. He's thirty now." The younger twin, Tetsumi, explained. Nagata looked surprised.
"You're both thirteen, right?" Nagata asked them. They both nodded in response. Now that he had the numerical information, he did the math in his head. It didn't take him long until he made a shocking discovery. If his calculations were correct, then Kuroko Tetsuya had the twins at age seventeen!
"Your father was awfully young when he had you two." Nagata said to the twins who looked back at him with blank expressions on their faces.
"Well, it's kind of a complicated story of how he had us, but our father really isn't that type of person." Tetsui responded.
"When our father found out that our mother was pregnant with us, he decided to marry her. They're still together now." Tetsumi added. Nagata was very interested in the twins' story. He really wanted to know more, but he thought that might be too sensitive of a subject to discuss, so he decided not to ask for any further details.
"Well it's really nice to meet you two. I'm excited to have you both on our team. My name is Nagata Saita, a second year here. I'm the captain of Teiko's first string basketball team. I'm really looking forward to working with you two."
"Yes, we are excited to be part of the team as well." The twins said simultaneously. Nagata chuckled.
"Okay so practice is at 4:00 PM. There will be tryouts for all new members to determine whether they will be placed in first string, second string, or third string. Don't be late." He said to the Kuroko twins.
"We won't be late, we promise." Tetsui responded. Nagata smiled then looked at the applications the two twins had just filled out as they talked. Then he looked back up and they were gone without a trace.
~Time Skip: 4:00 PM~
Thirty-three first years, including the Kuroko twins, had signed up for the basketball club. The head coach Sawada Kitora and 1st string captain Nagata Saita started to take attendance of all the new first year basketball players. Only thirty-one of the first years seemed to have shown up. The Kuroko twins appeared to be missing.
'Where are those two? They said they'd be on time.' Natsumi thought to himself.
"Are Kuroko Tetsui and Kuroko Tetsumi here?" Coach Sawada asked out loud. Tetsui and his younger identical twin brother, Tetsumi, stepped in front of him and Natsumi who both jumped back in surprise.
"We're right here, coach." Tetsui answered. Everyone gasped at the sight they saw. In front of Shuzaki and Natsumi were two first years that had an extremely low presence, like they were almost invisible.
"Did you just get here?" The head coach asked the twins.
"No, we've been here this entire time." Tetsumi answered with a blank expression on his face. Sawada then cleared his throat.
"Okay, it looks like everyone is here. How well you do in the tryouts will determine whether you are a first stringer, second stringer, or third stringer." Coach Sawada announced. When he blew the gym whistle, everyone started their tryouts. He was particularly interested in the Kuroko twins.
~Time Skip: After Tryouts~
The tryouts had just finished and it was time to announce which string the new students would be placed in. Fourteen of the first years became third stringers, twelve of the first years became second stringers, and the remaining seven first years became first stringers, which included Kuroko Tetsui and Kuroko Tetsumi. Five of the first stringers were unbelievably good, they were like super human. They were like the Generation of Miracles who graduated fourteen years ago. But these five were even better than the Generation of Miracles themselves. The Kuroko twins were just like their father Kuroko Tetsuya, but twice as powerful together.
"Everyone gather in three groups according to your string and introduce yourselves to your new teammates. State your name and two facts about yourself." Coach Sawada ordered the first year students. Everyone did as they were told. The Kuroko twins and the other five first stringers and the first string captain, Nagata Saita, gathered in their group.
"I'll start. I'm Nagata Saita second year and the captain of the first string basketball team. I have a black belt in kung fu." The captain said. He was of average height and had charcoal colored hair.
"I'm Akiyama Shindo. I will not hesitate to strike if irritated. I have multiple personality disorder." The scarlet-haired first stringer said. He was taller than the Kuroko twins by a couple of centimeters. Even though he had a small build, there was an intense overwhelming aura to him.
"My name is Murasame Shunsuke. My Chinese zodiac is the rat." Said the teal-haired player with glasses. He was the second tallest in the first string. He had a serious look on his face, almost too serious.
"Hi, my name is Kaname Reiji! I love fashion. I like going out shopping for newly trending clothes." Said the energetic player. His hair was a medium sand color and his canines were very pronounced, almost like a vampire's fangs. His personality was bubbly to the point where it could get annoying.
"I'm Arata Denshi. " A tall first stringer said. He was shorter than Murasame Shunsuke by about 13 centimeters, making him the third tallest player in the group. He had very short hair, slightly longer than a buzz cut and was cobalt blue in color.
"I'm Mizuno Asato. My favorite food is cake batter ice cream." Said the tallest first stringer. His dark purple-colored hair reach slightly beyond his wide shoulders. He had a bored look on his face, like this introduction activity was a waste of his time.
"I'm Kuroko Tetsui." The older twin said, introducing himself.
"And I'm Kuroko Tetsumi." The younger twin introduced himself as well.
"Our father is Kuroko Tetsuya, who was known as the Phantom Sixth Man when he played basketball here. He had us when he was seventeen years old. Our mother is also seventeen." Tetsumi said to the small group of basketball players.
"As you can see, we are identical twins. The only physical difference between us is the large birthmark I have on my inner right thigh. I'm the older twin." Tetsui told the first stringer team.
"Alright, looks like we've all introduced ourselves. Now let's start practice." Nagata told the first stringers who all groaned except for the Kuroko twins who were both expressionless. When everyone was done practicing, the head coach spoke.
"Now that each of you have learned a little bit about your teammates and practiced with each other a little, you will line up horizontally front of your team's coaches who will call you up and give you your uniforms." Head coach Sawada ordered all the students. Everyone did as they were told. Nagata, Akiyama, Murasame, Kaname, Arata, Mizuno, Tetsui and Tetsumi lined up before the coach of their string, Shiraki Nao. There was an open cardboard package on the floor in front of him.
"Your basketball uniforms are in this box at my feet. When I call your name, come forward to receive your uniform." first stringer coach Shiraki told the team. He called everyone up one by one. After everyone had their uniforms, they unfolded their jerseys to see what number they were. Natsumi was #4, Akiyama was #9, Murasame was #7, Kaname was #8, Arata was #6, Mizuno was #5, Tetsui was #15 and Tetsumi was # 16.
"Now that you all have your uniforms, you may go home." Coach Shiraki announced. All the new first stringers, except the Kuroko twins, sighed of relief and started to leave the gym.
~Time Skip~
The first stringers had all became famous around Teiko Middle School. They won every game they played. A winning streak like this hadn't occurred since the Generation of Miracles attended Teiko seventeen years ago. The five new prodigies earned the title the 2nd Generation of Miracles. The Kuroko twins earned the title of the Double Phantom when they were both on the court and the Lone Phantom when only one of them was in the game. One day, Nagata decided he was going to step down from his captain position partially due to his mother's illness getting worse.
~The conversation between Nagata and Akiyama~
"Akiyama could I speak with you for a moment?" Nagata asked Akiyama during practice, taking him aside. He and Akira walked outside of the gym.
"What is it captain?" The scarlet-haired member of the 2nd Generation of Miracles asked.
"I'm going to step down from my position as captain." Nagata told him. Akiyama looked puzzled at this sudden news.
"So what does this have to do with me?" Akiyama asked the captain.
"I want you to become the captain of the first stringers. Me stepping down is partially because my mother's illness has gotten worse. The other reason is that I believe you are a better fit for being the captain of the 2nd Generation of Miracles than me." Nagata explained to Akiyama. The scarlet haired man stood there and thought about it for a little while before he gave his answer.
"Very well then. I'll accept your offer. I'll be the captain." He said to Nagata, who looked at him gratefully.
"Thank you, Akiyama" The now former captain said to the new captain. After Natsumi stepped down, he switched jersey numbers with Akiyama. His new jersey number was #9 and Akiyama's was #4, signifying his new position as captain.
~Time Skip: After Graduation~
The Kuroko twins and the 2nd Generation of Miracles had just finished their third year at Teiko Middle School. After graduation, all the members of the 2nd Generation of Miracles split up, going to separate high schools. The Kuroko twins obviously wanted to follow the path of their father, going to Seirin High School. Akiyama Shindo went on to attend Rakuzan High, Murasame Shunsuke went to Shutoku High, Kaname Reiji chose to go to Kaijo High, Arata Denshi ended up going to Touou Academy, and Mizuno Asato enrolled Yosen High. Their days as teammates had ended. The next time they would see each other, they would be rivals.
