Chapter Text
“So, summer break's coming up,”
Hoseok said casually. And if Seokjin knew this is the start of his ridiculous punishment for being awkward, he would have ran away and spent his whole summer break in his apartment playing video games. But who would know.
“Yeah, can't wait.”
Seokjin answered, not sure where this was going.
“Taehyung's parents owns a cabin just a couple of hours drive from here,”
Hoseok said, flipping through his book. They were supposed to study for their final exam, but neither one of them had the concentration to go for more than an hour at the rate they had.
“I thought we should do something, since you're graduating this year.”
Hoseok gave up on his study and closed his book. Seokjin was still pretending to study since they were in a library, but he was actually just tracing circles in his notebook.
“We?”
Seokjin asked. And Hoseok smiled when he saw his confusion.
“Yeah, seven of us.”
“Oh.”
Seokjin muttered, still tracing circles in his book. He immediately lined up names in his head to fill the seven spots. Himself, Hoseok, Yoongi, Taehyung, and if Taehyung is there Jungkook and Jimin will be definitely there too.
One more person... he knew exactly who Hoseok will invite yet he hoped it wouldn't be him.
While Seokjin's brain scrambles to find the ability to make words again, thankfully, Yoongi came and interrupted their conversation by dropping his bag on the table.
“Hey,”
Yoongi sat down next to Hoseok, across Seokjin. Seokjin greeted him with a smile, but Hoseok skipped his and asked,
“Did you ask Namjoon?”
“Yeah, he said he's in.”
Goodness. Seokjin's hand stopped making circles.
“Great! Hyung, you're coming too, right?”
Hoseok asked with a bright smile. Seokjin sighed and began tracing circles again, ignoring the gaze of the two.
“I'm not sure...”
Seokjin trailed off.
“What!? I wasn't expecting you to say no, hyung. You like fun stuff!”
Seokjin thought Hoseok over exaggerated his shock, but he was telling the truth. Seokjin had been the first person to get excited on this kind of stuff. He liked vacations and hanging out with friends.
He doesn't have a problem with hanging out with them, even if Namjoon is there. But the problem is they are staying in a cabin. Just the seven of them in the middle of nowhere, probably for few days. And if that's the case, then it's not good.
“Is it because Namjoon will be there too?”
Yoongi asked with annoyed tone in his voice.
“No, it's not.”
Seokjin pretended to skim through his textbook, turning pages at random as he ignored Yoongi's gaze.
“Come on, hyung! Why do you hate him so much? You guys went to the same high school!”
That is exactly why he has a problem with Namjoon, but Seokjin dared not to say it. Half of the people in the library turned their heads to look at them, so Seokjin gestured Yoongi to be quiet.
“I don't hate him, okay? I just have something to do.”
“Like what?”
Yoongi asked in an angry whisper.
“Yah, why are you talking to me like that? Am I not your hyung?”
“Didn't mean to.”
Yoongi said under his breath, not looking at Seokjin.
“Hyung, you're changing the subject.”
Hoseok said soothingly, and Seokjin rolled his eyes and went back to his circles.
“Fine. I'm going.”
“Promise me you won't get awkward around him.”
Hoseok pleaded.
“When did I get awkward around him?”
“Ugh, all the time?”
Yoongi scoffed.
“That's not true!”
Seokjin shouted purely out of reflex, and immediately looked around to the other people whose heads were down in their books.
“You refuse to sit next to Namjoon all the time. You always ask if Namjoon is coming or not. And remember when Namjoon offered his food to you? You rejected it! You never reject a food! It's causing a scene now, hyung.”
Yoongi folded his arms, brows furrowed. Seokjin's jaw dropped as he looked at Yoongi in disbelief.
“Okay, I know Yoongi's attitude isn't good, but you still act worse in front of Namjoon, hyung.”
Hoseok said soothingly again, trying to calm the tensed air between the two.
“Okay, I promise.”
Seokjin lowered his voice to show how sincere he is. And this time, Yoongi and Hoseok breathe out a sigh of relief.
Seokjin and Namjoon went to the same high school, but they weren't actually friends until Hoseok introduced them to each other last year.
Seokjin knew who he was, of course. He could never forget about him even if he wanted to so badly.
In contrast, Namjoon didn't recognize him at all. He shook his hand with an endearing smile as he say "Hi, you went to Elbuort High too?". It should make Seokjin angry, but he was actually relieved that Namjoon didn't remember about him.
And he hoped he never will.
After the final, they were all excited for the one week stay in cabin. As soon as the summer break started, Taehyung asked his dad to drive them all there.
Some of them has a driver's license but none of them has a car. And they thought it will save them cost rather than renting a car, since they mostly be staying inside the cabin anyway.
The cabin was about two hours outside of town. Taehyung's father drove out of the town and eventually all the bright lights and noises were far behind them.
None of them talked about how the final exams went. Nothing school related stuff. They just talked about how excited they are to spend their summer vacation at the cabin, and what they want to do when they arrived.
“Sorry for the long drive, boys. We're almost there.”
Taehyung's dad said, and turned the car. This time even further away from the bustle of civilization.
“No, thank you for driving us here, sir.”
Namjoon said with a smile. He was the one sitting at the passenger seat and keeping Taehyung's dad company. Seokjin listened to their conversation as he sat between Yoongi and Hoseok on the second row, but not actually intending to jump into their conversation.
“Don't mind it.”
Taehyung's dad finally turned again onto a very narrow road. It was paved but wound through a wooded area. Seokjin realized that the road actually was a very long driveway.
“Okay, we're here.”
Taehyung's dad parked next to the 'cabin', which was larger than the house any of their family had ever owned.
“Wow, I didn't know you were rich.”
Jungkook bumped into Taehyung's side. All of them expected to see a tiny, two bedroom log home, not this beautiful house on the lake. There was a bench under a tree, a grill, and a nice little stretch of land that connected to the lake.
They got out of the car excitedly, and quickly retrieved their duffle bags from the trunk.
“Is it safe to swim here?”
Hoseok asked as they followed Taehyung's dad up the path to the front steps.
“Yes. It's not that deep. But don't swim at night, it's dangerous.”
Taehyung's dad answered, and slid his key into the lock and shoved the door open, reaching inside to flip on a light.
“Wow! This cabin is better than my parent's house.”
Jimin laughed, and tossed his bag onto the couch.
“Hey, be careful. Don't break anything.”
Yoongi grabbed Jimin's arm, stopping him from running around the house.
“It's all right. Nothing expensive's here. Taehyung knows where's everything are, so just ask him. I got all the food delivered in the kitchen. Drink's downstairs. You guys need anything else?”
All of them exchanged glances, and shrugged.
“Ah, no thank you.”
Namjoon answered on behalf of them.
Taehyung's father didn't bother to show them around. Instead, he just put the key on the kitchen counter and readied himself to leave.
“Okay. I'll pick you guys up next week. If you need anything, just call me.”
Taehyung's dad said for the last time and left the cabin.
“My back hurts from the long drive.”
“Yeah, me too.”
Yoongi and Hoseok immediately collapsed on the couch. Eight people in one wagon was too tiring, and they weren't sure if that was even legal.
“How many bedrooms are there?”
Jimin asked Taehyung.
“One master room and two guest rooms.”
Taehyung grinned, and all the younger ones ran off to the second floor, giggling.
Seokjin put down his bag on the floor and awkwardly stood beside the couch. Namjoon was also standing on the other side of the room, but he couldn't tell if Namjoon was looking at him or not, because he couldn't look at him.
“I'll check the food.”
Seokjin said to no specific person, and headed to the kitchen. There was boxes stacked beside the counter. He opened the top box to check, and he found a lot of instant noodles and premade meal. Seokjin grinned as he found it amusing to know that Taehyung's parents are smart enough to know that sending vegetables and raw meat isn't a good idea for seven boys in a cabin.
“Do you need help?”
Seokjin startled as he heard a familiar voice, and quickly turned his head around. Namjoon was standing by the door.
“Umm, no. I can do it by myself.”
“It's all right. I can help you.”
Namjoon picked up the box effortlessly, but a little roughly.
“Hey, be careful!”
Seokjin reflexively held Namjoon's arms to help him hold the box, but when he felt his warm skin on his palms, he pulled his hands away rather quickly.
“S-sorry,”
Seokjin stuttered, his gaze automatically dropped to the floor.
“J-just put them in the cabinet. I'll get the drinks.”
Seokjin walked pass Namjoon and got out of the kitchen. He caught a glimpse of Namjoon turning around with a confused look on his face, but he pretended not to notice.
“Hyung,”
When he walked into the living room, Yoongi called him from the couch. Yoongi and Hoseok could see inside the kitchen from their position. And even though it was just one word, Seokjin still sensed the warning tone in his voice.
“I know.”
Seokjin muttered, and went down to the basement. Seokjin turned on the light, and timidly searched for the drinks. The basement reminded him of most of the basements he saw in a horror movies. All dusty and dark. And even the wooden ornaments that were kept there freaked him out.
Seokjin finally found the box of bottled water inside the old cabinets. He picked up one box and hurriedly went upstairs again.
When Seokjin entered the living room again, all of them are gathered there. And Jimin chuckled as Jungkook put down the box on the floor.
“Look what I found!”
“What is it?”
Hoseok asked, leaning forward to look inside the box.
“It's my old Halloween costumes!”
Taehyung opened the box with a wide grin on his face.
“Is this a kitty costume?”
Jimin picked up random items from the box and put it on the floor.
“Yeah, and I have puppy costume too.”
“We can wear this costume and play a game later!”
Hoseok laughed, and picked up the kitty costume from the floor.
“What game?”
Namjoon asked curiously.
“Did anyone bring playing cards?”
Jungkook asked. But none of them said anything.
“So I guess we need to play something like truth or dare.”
Jungkook shrugged.
“Okay, let's play King's game.”
Yoongi smirked. Taehyung's eyes immediately gleamed in curiosity.
“What is that?”
“Each of us pick up a paper at the same time. One paper written King, and the other ones are just numbers, one up to six. Whoever got the king has to point out two numbers to order to do something. Like, number two has to slap number six's ass. If they couldn't do it, they will get a punishment.”
Yoongi explained smoothly.
“That sounds easy and fun. I'm in!”
Jimin grinned, and grabbed a costume from the box.
“I'm in too!”
Taehyung grabbed the puppy costume from the floor.
“Okay, let's get dressed and play the game now.”
Hoseok clapped once, and headed to the bathroom to get dressed. And the others immediately hunt for their costume inside the box.
“You actually wrote whiskers on your cheeks to match your kitty costume?”
Yoongi laughed, finger pointing at Hoseok's face.
“It would look weird if I didn't! What are you talking about.”
Hoseok furrowed his brows, clearly offended.
“Jungkook got the best costume! So unfair!”
Seokjin pointed at Jungkook and laughed too. Jungkook was wearing a Captain America costume, and it surprisingly suited him.
Seokjin got the last costume, which is a wizard costume, with a pointy hat, black cape, and a magic wand.
“I wish there was an Iron man costume.”
Jungkook said shyly.
“Namjoon hyung and Yoongi hyung's costume are boring.”
Jimin laughed. Namjoon was wearing a scarecrow costume, which is just a overall and a straw hat with golden yarn hair. Yoongi's costume was an ordinary cop uniform. But he still thinks it's cool because he has fake gun and handcuffs.
“Yeah, I envy your costume so much.”
Yoongi said sarcastically, and scoffed afterwards. Jimin was wearing a green fairy costume. With a matching green wings.
“Enough dissing about our costumes, okay? Let's play the game now.”
Seokjin sat on the floor and picked up the paper bag. The papers were already prepared inside, so he picked up one for himself and passed the paper bag to the other.
“Who got the king?”
“Me!”
Taehyung grinned and held up the paper.
“I order, number three to sit on number two's lap until the game ends.”
“What!? That's too easy!”
Jimin exclaimed, pushing Taehyung by the shoulder.
“You can't change the order anymore. I'm two, who's three?”
Yoongi waved his paper in the air and leaned back onto the couch to sit comfortably.
“It's Jimin hyung!”
Jungkook laughed, peeking at Jimin's paper.
“This isn't fun.”
Jimin pouted.
“Stop complaining and get your fairy ass over here, Park Jimin.”
Yoongi tapped his lap. Jimin immediately moved to sit on his lap, still pouting.
“Next time, order something fun.”
Seokjin said. And Everyone started putting back their papers. Another round again, picking up papers one by one, and this time Jungkook got the king.
“I order, number five to carry number one upstairs and come back here again.”
“Yah! You're the only one who can do that!”
Hoseok yelled, because he was the one holding the number five.
“Oh God, please hyung don't fall down the stairs.”
Taehyung cried and laughed at the same time, holding up the paper written number one.
“Good luck, Hoseok-ah.”
Namjoon covered his mouth as he laughed. All of them grinned widely as they looked at the kitty putting his arm behind the puppy's knees and picked him up. And the way Hoseok's back tensed made them think that it was impossible for him to accomplish the dare, but surprisingly, he managed to carry Taehyung upstairs and came back.
They did few more rounds, and it was really fun until that happened.
“Number three has to hold number four's hand and stay at the basement without the lights for five minutes.”
Jimin ordered, and Seokjin's face turned white when Namjoon held up the number four.
“No way. I'm not gonna do this.”
Seokjin immediately put back the paper inside the paper bag.
“Hyung, you need to do it.”
Yoongi looked at Seokjin. Not actually glaring, but he was half way there.
“Why do we need to stay in the basement?”
“It's not even that hard, hyung.”
Jungkook said hesitantly, confused of why Seokjin doesn't want to do it.
“Can you change the number?”
Seokjin pleaded to Jimin, but soon he realized he shouldn't have said it because Yoongi's expression quicky turned to pure anger.
“Okay, that's it. I'm done with your shit, hyung. You two stay together until you figure out how to get along, that's your punishment.”
Yoongi stood up and quickly put the handcuff on Seokjin's wrist, and the other one on Namjoon's.
“Yah! This isn't funny! Take them off!”
Seokjin exclaimed, but Yoongi left the room without saying anything. The others exchanged a concerned glance. And Jimin and Hoseok immediately followed Yoongi.
“I think that was too much, hyung.”
Hoseok sighed.
Yoongi was standing in the middle of the hallway, putting his both hands inside his pockets.
“Just a few hours won't hurt them.”
Yoongi pulled out his hands from the pocket and began to caress every pocket on his uniform.
“What's wrong?”
Jimin asked worriedly as he saw Yoongi's face paler than it already was.
“The key...”
Yoongi mumbled under his breath.
“Shit, I don't have the key.”
