Questions

Summary:

Down time means that anyone is prone to Narancia's questions, but Abbacchio really hoped it wouldn't be him.

Work Text:

"Hey, Abbacchio, you're only half Italian, right?"

"Mm."

"What's the other half?"

"Cryptid, isn't that obvious."

The response wasn't satisfactory, as he could tell by looking over his book to see Narancia's pout. Too bad. He didn't have plans to answer that seriously. If the brat was so nosy he could figure it out himself. Not that he expected him to be able to. Not without help.

"He's half Russian Narancia," Fugo chimed in from the table, causing Abbacchio to frown. "Pay attention to some of the books he reads. A good chunk of them are in Russian."

"Thanks for that one, Sherlock Holmes," he spat at Fugo, glaring at the boy. Fugo simply shrugged and went back to working at a crossword at the table, ignoring his piercing stare. With a 'tch' he simply went back to his book, not bothering to look at Narancia.

"There's your answer. Now scram."

What he got in response was a 'pfft', before the other was dangerously close to his own face. Reeling his head back, he simultaneously shoved the other's away. What the hell was this kid thinking? Or more accurately: what the hell did he want that he was being so annoying.

"I have more questions," he stated, face still half smooshed by his hand. "Like, is that your real hair color?"

"Yes," he hissed, not daring to move his hand back as he feared the other would simply move his face oh so close again. "Why are you being a pest anyway."

"Curiosity. So are your eyebrows also silver? Do you look really stupid without your makeup? Wait wait better question--why do you wear makeup?"

"I wear it because I want to."

"Is it so you can have eyebrows?"

"Alright question time is long fucking over you absolute pest," he stated, shutting his book and standing up. "If I see your ass anywhere near me in the next three hours, unless we have a mission, you're dead."

With that, he glared at Narancia to make sure he got the message before heading off to his room, leaving the two boys out in the living room by themselves. Looking up from his crossword, Fugo raised a brow at Narancia.

"So what was the purpose of interrogating him?"

"Buccellati figured I was annoying enough we'd be able to learn something about him if I bugged him long enough. He doesn't open up on his own, soooooo..."

"He also paid you to do it too didn't he."

"Absolutely I was not risking my neck for this shit. So if you excuse me, I'm going to go buy a pizza."

Fugo rolled his eyes at the ridiculousness of the other boy, bidding him a goodbye before returning to his crossword. From around the corner, Abbacchio could hear every word. And he couldn't help the tiny remnants of a smile creeping onto his face. Sure it was a stupid, roundabout way, but he knew it was filled with good intentions.

And that was definitely more than he deserved.
