Work Text:
The bedroom door opened with a creak, waking up Taehyung from his peaceful sleep. It was almost as if he’d gotten used to it; this was the third time this had happened this week.
He did what he’d done the other times: pretending to be asleep and hoping they wouldn’t make too much noise. He should’ve known better, he knew he should’ve said something but he was simply too exhausted from the previous nights.
The bunk bed made a whining noise when the younger boy climbed into the top bunk. Taehyung sighed and silently prayed Jimin and Jungkook would actually sleep this time. Luck wasn’t on his side though, it didn’t take long before he could hear the first fit of giggles. He glanced over at Hoseok’s bed to see if it was bothering his hyung as much as it was bothering him but Hoseok was sleeping soundly.
Taehyung glared at the top bed, contemplating what he should do next. Sleeping wasn’t an option for he knew Jimin and Jungkook wouldn’t shut up until four in the morning. It was a miracle to him how they were able to keep on doing this for the third night in a row now as they didn’t seem tired during practices at all. The same couldn’t be said about everyone though: he felt himself gradually growing more tired every day and he could see hints of black circles under the eyes of Hoseok, too. It didn’t take a genius to know this had something to do with Jimin and Jungkook and their rendezvous in the middle of the night.
That’s when he realised something. He grabbed his pillow and sneaked out of their dorm into the corridor, down the hall and into Jungkook and Namjoon’s dorm. He quietly opened the door and looked around.
On one side of the room he saw Namjoon sleeping in his bed and on the other side was just a big pile of clothes mixed with stacks of books. Taehyung figured this was probably the reason Jungkook had sneaked out to sleep in Jimin’s bed and he knew the solution was simple. He hopped over some stuff to the bed and carefully shoved all of Jungkook’s clothes and other possessions off of the bed. One of Jungkook’s Bluetooth speakers fell onto a stack of books with a thud and Taehyung froze. He glanced over to Namjoon and felt relieved when he saw his hyung was still sleeping, seemingly unbothered by the noise.
The bed was now empty, apart from the sheets and Taehyung climbed into Jungkook’s bed, placing his pillow under his head. It didn’t take long before he fell asleep.
“You clever little-“ Taehyung heard someone mutter under his breath and he wondered when he’d become such a light sleeper. He turned around to see Hoseok standing in the doorway.
“Wha-“ He began, sitting up and rubbing his eyes before he remembered Namjoon was still in the room, asleep and they had to be quiet.
“I thought you were asleep,” Taehyung whispered as quietly as he could.
“Well, I was but the maknae line was making too much noise for me to fall back asleep when I came back from the toilet,” Hoseok answered quietly, making his way to Jungkook’s bed. “Scoot over,”
“Hey! Not the whole maknae line, I was just sleeping here.” Taehyung objected quietly, shifting closer to the wall to make room for his hyung. “And aren’t you the hyung? You could’ve told Jungkook to go sleep in his own bed.”
“I did, but Jungkook told me his bed was too messy to sleep in,” Hoseok lay down next to Taehyung, “and that’s when I noticed you weren’t in your bed so I figured you’d be here. I didn’t mean to wake you up though.”
“It’s okay hyung,” Taehyung mumbled, getting sleepy again. He rested his head on Hoseok’s chest, sighing contently for he got to sleep on his favourite pillow again. Hoseok wrapped his arms around Taehyung and he felt like everything was just right.
Taehyung was too exhausted to think about anything at that moment, but he knew he didn’t have to. He quickly drifted back into a peaceful sleep in the arms of his favourite hyung.
He wasn’t sure what woke him up the next time, though he did know it was almost time to get up for real this time. He didn’t want to think about it though, he was way too comfortable to even get the idea of moving through his head properly. That, and how could one move when they’re trapped between the wall and another person?
Taehyung shifted a little, moving his hand so he could play with Hoseok’s hair. His hyung was still holding onto him tightly and Taehyung wondered when Hoseok had become such a clingy sleeper. He didn’t mind it though, in fact, he was probably enjoying it a little bit too much.
This wasn’t the first time Taehyung had shared a bed with Hoseok, but somehow, it felt different this time and he couldn’t tell why. It was as if something had shifted and he didn’t know what. Sure, they’d hung out more recently. And yeah, Taehyung loved being around Hoseok and being close to him and listening to him. He loved watching him dance and talk and he loved playing with his hair. But none of these things seemed new to him and he didn’t know what to think of that.
His train of thought was disrupted by a knock on the door, followed by Jin opening the door and poking his head into the room to say: “Goodmor-“ He stopped mid sentence when he saw Taehyung and Hoseok wrapped up in one another in Jungkook’s bed. A hint of confusion washed over his face before he apparently decided to let it slide and wake up the others.
“Just get ready guys, we have to be at dance practise in one hour,” Jin sighed, turning his attention to Namjoon, “You too, Namjoon, up!”
Namjoon let out a groan in response and rolled out of his bed and followed Jin out of the room.
Taehyung figured Jin wanted him to wake up Hoseok so he lightly shook his hyung’s shoulder.
“Hoseokie-hyung! Wake up!” He cheered softly, but Hoseok only stirred and held onto him a little tighter.
“Come on, sleeping beauty, it’s a new day, time to get up,” Taehyung tried again.
“Mmm, you’re going to have to kiss me in order for me to wake up then,” Hoseok mumbled, still half asleep.
Taehyung froze before he understood Hoseok was only referencing the fairy tale. That meant he wasn’t being serious, right? Taehyung let the thought of kissing Hoseok sink in and realised he wasn’t completely appalled by that idea. Not at all, actually. Taehyung didn’t know what that meant though and decided he wasn’t going to kiss him.
“Hobi-hyuuung,” He whined, shaking his shoulder and poking his sides.
“You heard me Taehyung-ah,” Hoseok murmured, batting his hands away.
Taehyung kept nudging him but Hoseok was simply immovable. It almost as if he was challenging him and Taehyung couldn’t tell if he was being serious or not.
Taehyung was sure that the other members would eventually come to wake them up and the thought scared him a little. What would the others think when they saw Hoseok clinging to him like a koala, in not even one of their own beds? They had been lucky that Namjoon was (or at least pretended) to be too sleepy to see and that Jin wasn’t the type of person to make fun of them but the others, especially Jimin, would tease them mercilessly.
Not only that, but he also just liked the thought, and wasn’t Hoseok the one that came up with this ridiculous idea?
Before Taehyung realised what he was doing he moved up his head a little and pressed his lips against Hoseok’s. He felt the older boy stiffen under him and quickly pulled away, eyes wide with shock.
Hoseok’s eyes fluttered open and he smiled when he saw Taehyung sitting upright in bed, hands covering his mouth.
“I-“ Taehyung uttered but before he could say more, Hoseok grabbed his wrists to pull him down and kissed him again.
Taehyung was confused but he liked it when Hoseok started to move his lips. He let himself fall down onto the mattress next to him and moved his hands to Hoseok’s neck to pull them closer. He felt the older boy smile in the kiss and he wondered for how long he’d wanted to kiss him without even realising it.
Hoseok broke the kiss, smiling sweetly, as if he’d just done some really amazing aegyo instead of kissing his best friend.
“I didn’t really mean for you to kiss me but,” Hoseok paused before admitting, “I liked it when you did.”
“It was the only way to wake you up, apparently.” Taehyung shrugged.
“You loved it though,” Hoseok grinned, tracing along Taehyung’s sharp jawline.
“Yeah, we should do it again sometime.” The words had left Taehyung’s mouth before he could do anything to stop them.
Hoseok was unstoppable. He chuckled lightly before connecting their lips once again. His hands made their way to Taehyung’s hair and played with it. Their mouths worked together amazingly, synchronised, as if they’d practised this a million times before.
Taehyung didn’t really know what he was doing, but he knew he was doing something right when he captured Hoseok’s bottom lip and sucked lightly on it. The older boy responded by humming contently.
They deepened the kiss and Taehyung parted his lips, allowing for Hoseok to explore his mouth with his tongue. He could tell Hoseok had done this before because holy heavens whatever Hoseok was doing with his mouth felt so good he forgot to breathe for a moment.
Taehyung moved his hands to Hoseok’s back and kissed him fiercely and he wished this moment could last forever.
Only it didn’t last forever. Taehyung broke the kiss as soon as he heard noise coming from down the hall. He quickly pushed away Hoseok. A rejected expression spread over his hyung’s face and Taehyung instantly regretted what he'd done.
He only had a few seconds to gesture to the door, hoping that would clear up why he’d pushed Hoseok away. The door was opened seconds later by Namjoon, who looked at them and then just shrugged and smiled at the two of them. He went to grab some clothes.
“I think I know why you two slept here instead of your own dorms,” Namjoon paused to roll his eyes, obviously referencing Jungkook and Jimin’s nocturnal adventures, “but you should really get ready now, dance practise starts in forty minutes.”
Namjoon added a not entirely misplaced but a totally uncalled for wink before he left the room again.
"You heard the leader, TaeTae, forty minutes!” Hoseok spoke teasingly and he added softly “We’re good, you and I, right?”
“Of course!” Taehyung smiled and repeated, “We really should do this again sometime.”
“We should.” Hoseok pecked Taehyungs lips before athletically hopping over the mess next to Jungkook’s bed. When he exited the room, he left behind Taehyung who was still in a state of pure ecstacy.
