Bubblegum and Sour Candies

Summary:

Mina and Jirou share a lot of differences. Mina's cheerful towards everyone, confident in herself and overly emotional at times. Jirou keeps to herself, guards her emotions and interests, and acts tough. The two realize they share more in common than they thought and complement the other's weaknesses.

Notes:

AshiJirou is a good ship. They don't interact much in canon, but I wish they did because I feel like they could be good friends. They both act and seem different on the outside, but I feel like they share a lot of common interests and would be there to support one another. But anyways, have some AshiJirou since this ship deserves more love <3

Work Text:

Jirou loved her bright smile. Her self confidence and cheer. Her laughter, loud and bubbly.

Her hair was pink and fluffy. Jirou soon learned Mina loved whenever she would ruffle her hair. She also loved having her horns pet, although not by just anyone.

Mina's lips always smelled of some nice scent. Sometimes sweet like bubblegum. Other times fruity like cherries. She owned different flavors of chapsticks and loved to experiment with them. Never the same one twice in a row, always a surprise.

That's how Mina was. Full of surprises. She was always dragging Jirou into shenanigans with her friends, and while Jirou blamed her for whatever trouble they ended up in, she didn't mind. Mina also loved to bring her new places. The fair. The aquarium. A new cafe that had opened downtown. Jirou always accepted her invitations if she could.

She loved giving Jirou gifts as well. Earrings and chokers that Mina bought because they reminded her of Jirou. Little packs of sour candies and lollipops after the two had gotten into a discussion about their favorite sweets. Composing silly songs that Jirou would tease her about although she loved Mina's singing voice.

Jirou kept every piece of jewelry from her. Wore them when she could. While she and Mina had different tastes in style, they bonded over their love for fashion. Both loved painting each other's nails. Mina always picked out the perfect red, purple or black to match Jirou's outfit, and Jirou found bright pinks, greens and purples that fit Mina's bright personality. Shopping, too, was an activity both enjoyed. While it embarrassed her, Jirou loved spending time at the mall, and Mina often brought her there to try on new outfits. Mina had an eye for finding clothes that suited Jirou. And Jirou always felt her heart beat faster whenever she'd suggest a dress for Mina to try on and the pink haired girl's face would brighten at the suggestion as she rushed off with it to the changing rooms.

Spending time with her always made Jirou feel more relaxed. Carefree. Like she didn't have to be afraid of being judged. Both got competitive over video games and passionate about the movies they watched together. It shocked her to learn that Mina - girly and excitable Mina - was into horror films. She herself was easily scared by those kind of movies, but Mina adored them, and she had to admit she didn't mind cuddling up next to Mina even if the movies terrified her.

Whenever Jirou practiced guitar, Mina would sing along to the tune. She was one of the few people who Jirou played for. At first she feared Mina would mock her interests, but Mina seemed excited to learn about Jirou's passion for music and admitted she loved music just as much even if she couldn't play. Mina was always dragging Jirou along to karaoke as well, and sometimes Jirou would humor her by singing along. Dancing was also a love of Mina's. She'd dance around the room, grab Jirou and spin her around, and Jirou's face would flush. However, she'd let Mina lead her, following and laughing along with the movements, until they both collapsed together on the couch.

If she ever wasn't feeling up to a task, Mina would stay with her. She knew it pained Mina to miss social events, but Mina assured her it was fine, and they'd always end up doing something else together. Whenever she felt down, Mina would visit her dorm room to hang out or text her when she wasn't up to meeting face to face. Even when she didn't need to talk, Jirou appreciated Mina's texts throughout the day that never failed to make her smile.

Mina was bright, bubbly and sociable. Always smiling and friendly with everyone. And despite their differences, Jirou loved every moment with her.

-----------

Jirou was quiet but had so much to say. She acted cold and indifferent, snarky and snappish. Underneath her tough exterior, Mina knew she was a romantic and had a heart of gold.

She liked to play with Jirou's earlobes, and Jirou would let her as long as they were alone. Sometimes Jirou would let her do her make-up, and Mina would always take extra care, ensuring the small red triangles under her eyes were perfect. After all, she didn't want anything less for Jirou.

Jirou was a private person. Mina knew this very well. Their first year at UA, the two didn't talk much. It wasn't that Mina didn't like Jirou, and she hoped the other girl hadn't disliked her either, but that their personalities differed. However, through Kaminari and Momo, the two had gotten to know each other better.

Jirou had opened up to her, and Mina let her slowly do so. While she was usually a guarded, snarky person around others, Mina came to see her sensitive side.

Jirou didn't mind letting Mina sleep on her shoulder on the bus rides during field trips. Whenever Mina wanted to go shopping, she'd come with her. She was thankful for Jirou's patience and the way her face would light up whenever she'd see Mina in a new colorful dress.

Jirou was more sneaky about showing her affections, and it always made Mina laugh whenever she found packs of gum or flowers in her room with a scribbled note. Jirou often downloaded music for her as well without telling her, and she often left sheet music with lyrics she'd written for Mina to sing.

Even though Jirou loathed horror movies and any activities of the sort, after learning of Mina's interest in them, she'd been more open to giving them a try. Mina loved whenever Jirou would cuddle up next to her, although she made sure that the girl wasn't uncomfortable and would shut off the movie if she ever got too scared.

She loved whenever she was able to get Jirou to crack a smile or chuckle while around the others. And she was thankful that Jirou trusted her enough to show Mina her softer side.

She knew Jirou was embarrassed about her interests particularly her love for music, but Mina couldn't understand why. She was an amazing musician. Jirou wouldn't tell her why but she didn't press, and it excited her whenever Jirou played or composed a song for her.

Jirou was always there for her as well. Whenever she got upset or over emotional, Jirou didn't tease or snap at her. She'd just sit with her and wait for her to calm down, offering her presence and silent support. Just being near her, Mina felt more calm and rational.

Jirou was very different from her. Guarded with her emotions instead of open. Colder towards strangers than cheerful with them. Embarrassed to flaunt her talents and passions. But Mina knew how she was with people she was close to and just how talented and compassionate she was.

She was lucky to be with someone as complex and amazing as Jirou.
