Work Text:

Loud bangs boomed throughout the small store. Kurama's head peaked from behind the display case slowly being unfilled with delicious sweets. Oh, it's the same boy who's been coming around for a few months now. A smile spread on his lips as Hiei continued his thunderous pounding on the door.

“Yes, yes. I'm coming.” Taking his time placing the desserts down on the counter, Kurama started humming softly. He slipped the green apron covered in colorful flowers over his head, draping it over the glass case. Finally, the redhead made his way over to the angry young man who stopped trying to beat the door in, crossing his arms in frustration instead.

Unlatching the door, Kurama gave an airy laugh joking as he opened it, “Sorry sir. We're closed. Any requests will...” But he was cut off by Hiei pushing past him mumbling something that Kurama couldn't quite make out. Hm, he smells of alcohol. Smirking, Kurama got a feeling, a really good feeling, something bad was about to happen.

Shutting and locking the door, he followed the black haired boy making his way behind the counter.

“This's all y'r fault...” He slurred, louder than his mumbling before. Hiei grabbed up one of their slices of strawberry shortcake and began stuffing his face full.

Chuckling, clearly entertained, Kurama raised an eyebrow getting comfortable leaning against the end of the glass display case watching the boy closely as he crossed his arms over his chest. “And what, pray tell, is 'all my fault'?”

“Ev'rythin'.” Was a quick short garbled reply around his chewing.

“I'm sure that's an exaggeration, but please, do go on.” His voice was smooth, only a hint of amusement edging through.

“Jus' ev'rythin'. Like how,” He paused to take a bite of his cake, clearly trying to think, “ya always seem tappear in m'thoughts...” Dark red eyes flickered to green ones for only a second before pink dusted across his cheeks. “It's annoyin'.”

Making a mental note that Hiei was definitely drunk, Kurama let his smirk show for only a moment before slipping back into his usual polite smile. “Oh? And what kind of thoughts are you having about me?” He calmly teased waiting as Hiei used his cake to keep from answering right away. This gave Kurama time to notice the boys appearance. He looked like a disheveled hot mess. Hair tussled about, rips and tears in his black shirt along with his dark jeans. His black hooded jacket just barely staying on his slender shoulders wanting to just slip off onto the floor. The same blue gem hanging from the silver chain around his neck. Hiei had refused to tell him who it was from even though it clearly was from someone important.

Flickering his eyes back up to Hiei's face, he noticed the boy watching him, eyes intense. Kurama couldn't help but be taken aback, his eyes widening slightly as Hiei's tongue darted out licking icing off his lips. Schooling his features, the redhead pushed off the glass case arms dropping down to his sides taking a step forward. “I can only imagine,” He took a couple more slow steps, “what kind of thoughts,” He stopped in front of him, “must be going through your head.” Kurama bent at his waist, leaning in close, head tilting to the side. His red hair spilling like water over his shoulder, Hiei's eyes flickering to the motion before meeting back up to a smirking Kurama. His face must have looked a little sinister because Hiei tried to take a step back only to meet the counter, his eyes narrowed into a glare.

“Maybe something,” Kurama drew it out, pausing, his voice smooth as silk, “like this?” His lips almost brushing against the younger man's, eyes never leaving Hiei's. Sunlight danced across their skin playing patterns of orange and pink as the sun sunk below the horizon.

Moments passing without either of them moving. The light from the sky grew brighter through the window the only indication that time indeed still ticked. Then in a blink their lips met. No one moved, eyes drifting closed as they sank into the feeling of each others soft flesh. It happened both slow and fast all at once. Like time really did stand still for the briefest of moments just for them, but then remembered it couldn't last forever and sped up to catch up to the rest of the world.

Kurama watched as the little man's eyes shot wide when he realized what happened, pushing past him, the cake in his hands falling to the floor. The sound of the chime rang throughout the store. The redhead stood tall, green eyes following the shadow running across the street away from his mother's shop. His fingers touched his lips gently to find a smile gracing his lips. A chuckle let out as his eyes slipped closed again remembering the feeling only seconds ago.

“I'll take that as a yes.” His voice barely heard to his own ears rushing from the giddy feeling starting to spread through his chest.

Notes:

This technically comes before "Sweet Sticky Sin" and after "Strawberry Shortcake", lol but the muse doesn't always lead us to write in chronological order.
