Work Text:
yoongi wasn’t really one for change.
yoongi always went through his days with a meticulously planned schedule, exact to the very last second. on tuesdays at exactly 5:30 pm, he would have to be seated down at the one table in the corner that had a little chip on the lower right side, facing the rest of the room so he could people watch.
he arrives at exactly 5:25, typing away at his phone as his assistant bugs him for the nth time about the damn meeting he’s apparently been postponing for almost a week now. he doesn’t look up from his phone as he stops in front of the counter.
“hey, yeah, namjoon. you know what i like. could you please just bring it over to my table in a bit? i gotta finish this.”
“…..um.”
namjoon doesn’t sound like that.
“s-sir, i’m not namjoon.”
yoongi looks up from his phone for the first time in about ten minutes, and gets startled by the sight. instead of seeing the usual purple-haired, dimpled giant before him, he is greeted by an unfamiliar face.
who was he and what was his business being so terribly attractive? in this economy?
the stranger in question cocked his head to the right, a bit of his pink hair – people still dye their hair pink? - falling into his eyes. he looked as yoongi took a little peek at his nametag – hoseok.
“sir, i don’t mean to be a bother, but you’re holding up the line….”
yoongi snapped out of his trance, and apologized.
“i’m sorry. um. hi. could i have a tall americano, hot?”
yoongi is a writer - a god with words, as his friends tell him. but why the hell did he transform into a stammering mess in front of this beautiful man?
“okay. sir, i’ll bring your order right over, alright?”
“alright. thanks, hoseok. by the way, you can call me yoongi.”
“yoongi.”
yoongi wasn’t fond of his name, and thought it made him sound like a candy for kids. but today, hearing his name roll off hoseok’s tongue perfectly… suddenly he had never been prouder to have been born with the name.
hoseok smiled at him, crinkles forming at the corners of his eyes.
“alright, yoongi.”
yoongi had a sudden thought: maybe instead of fridays, his favorite day of the week would now be tuesdays.
the writer had spent almost two hours staring at his laptop screen, the blankness of his microsoft word daring to stare right back at him. yoongi decides to lean back in his seat and people watch – his habit when he couldn’t write.
his eyes darted lazily from a woman nursing her bundled up baby with a bottle of milk, to a couple (disgustingly) kissing in the corner opposite him, then to hoseok.
he was finishing up his shift, taking care of the last few customers. yoongi noticed how hoseok seemed to genuinely care about each customer, taking a bit of his time to ask about their day and smile at them – oh my god his mouth turns into the shape of a heart when he smiles - and all of that intrigued him.
to yoongi, hoseok seemed too pure for this world. angelic, almost.
it was 8:20 pm, and it was time for yoongi to leave the café if he wanted to catch the 8:30 pm bus home. but he didn’t want to leave without taking one last look at hoseok.
he decided that if he wanted to keep the memory of someone who’s so effortlessly caught his eye, he would write something about him.
or how about… for him?
yoongi scribbled on the last napkin on the table, finishing at exactly 8:25 pm. he smiled to himself, proud of his quick work, and packed up his things.
he was halfway to the door when hoseok had called him.
“oh, yoongi! leaving already?”
hoseok was clutching his apron in one hand, rubbing his eye with the other. he looked positively tired. but no matter how annoyingly cute the man could get, yoongi was about to miss his ride home.
“ah, yeah, i’m heading home. i’ll see you next tuesday, hoseok. thank you for the coffee.”
yoongi gave him a small smile, and turned to walk rather hurriedly out the door, not giving hoseok any chance to respond. the former couldn’t help but notice how his cheeks were burning up, despite the fact that it was fifteen degrees celsius out.
at least the bus stop was right outside the café, so yoongi could see hoseok for just a little bit longer. he observed as hoseok walked over to the table he occupied no more than five minutes ago, putting everything on the tray. yoongi nervously chewed on his bottom lip as he saw the barista pick up the napkin he had written on, and frowned.
he watched as hoseok’s eyes flitted over the words, and as his face eased up. the man held the napkin in his hands, beaming.
how could one’s smile rival the radiance of the sun? is that even possible?
hoseok turned his head from side to side, looking for any clues as to whom had written the small piece. coming to the conclusion that he wouldn’t find them (at least, today), he tucked the paper in the front pocket of the shirt, and patted it twice before heading back into the kitchen.
yoongi heard the familiar roar of the bus as it pulled up to a stop in front of him. he sat at the back, and rested his head on the window. as the bus started moving, he kept his eyes fixed on the café until it was out of sight.
he checked his watch, and it was 8:32 pm.
yoongi was never one for change, but if it meant getting the chance to look at the man with the bright smile and the loving eyes just a little bit longer, he doesn’t think he’d mind leaving two minutes later than he should have.

the earth orbits around the sun, taking exactly 365 days to do so.
the earth never complained, because it enjoyed being in its company.
it was its center, all it had ever known.
amidst all the ruckus, the earth kept its gaze fixed on the sun.
after all the change it had undergone, the earth knew.
the earth just knew it could take one look at the sun,
and find solace in its brightness.
the earth loved the sun,
and that is all there is to know.
