Work Text:

yoongi sighed, feeling his phone buzz in his pants pocket for the tenth time in ten minutes. he was late and he knew taehyung was having his head for this.
his friends had set him up with a friend of theirs who was "the sweetest little bean in the planet, you'll love him, hyung!". he wouldn't normally have agreed to blind dates, but he was coerced into it and once his roommates slash best friends taehyung and hoseok ganged up on him, there was absolutely no escape. besides, he hasn't dated in over a year (something taehyung never failed to remind him on a weekly basis) and while he's never seen this park jimin dude, taehyung and hoseok had nothing but praises for their colleague at the community's public veterinary practice. he won't trust the two with fashion choices or restaurant recommendations, but they've got the people skills down to a 't' (he's the anomaly in their friend group) and if they say park jimin is a cool person that he'd get along with really well, he had no reason not to believe them.
so he was all set. he had set aside time after work to freshen up and be at jimin's doorstep on time, because if there's one thing yoongi wasn't, it's that he was never late. he hated tardiness, it only spoke volumes of how inconsiderate a person was by wasting someone else's time.
however, at the moment, it was something that can't be helped. he was on his way home from work, early for a change, when he witnessed a hit-and-run. a six-wheeler barreled through the red light, side-swiping an suv with a mother and child in it. damages weren't extensive, but he rushed to help the overwrought mom to check if the child was injured and called emergency services immediately. an ambulance and police cars came up soon after, and obviously, he was needed for police questioning.
he first had to recount events to the cops, trying to remember as much details about the driver ("did you get a good look at his face? we're not sure how clear the cctv footage is but the plates should be visible at least.") and then medics insisted looking over him to ensure he's psychologically stable because witnessing accidents could trigger anxiety. so there he was thirty minutes later with a gray safety blanket over his shoulders as paramedics took his pulse and declared him fit to go home.
"i know, i know," yoongi said, picking up his phone on the third ring once he was released by the medics. "i'm late."
"I HAVE LEFT YOU FIVE HUNDRED MILLION TEXTS. care to explain why you're late?" drawled taehyung from the other end of the line. "jimin's been asking if you backed out and honestly, my baby boy shouldn't be made to feel insecure. he needs a night out with a hot date and right now, i'm questioning my sanity in thinking you're even worthy of taking my baby out on a date."
yoongi snorted. "your baby? why don't you take him out on a date instead if you love him that much."
"ew, don't be gross. that's practically incest. but seriously, where are you? you're never late and if you are, you would have at least sent me a text. what's going on? cold feet? i mean, i know it's your first date in forever-"
"i had to talk to cops," yoongi cut him off. he heard taehyung gasp, and before his friend could keel over and launch into theatrics, yoongi explained everything - from the coffee he bought on his way home to witnessing the hit-and-run to being questioned by the cops and medics.
"oh my god, yoongs," taehyung cooed, suddenly all caring and loving. "are you okay? do you feel like skipping? i can call jimin to reschedule."
"no, it's fine," yoongi assured him. "i've already made him wait this long, might as well try and make it up to him."
"if you're sure..."
"i am."
"okay, good. you're going straight to jimin's right?"
"home first. i want to take a shower."
"you're almost an hour late, yoongs."
yoongi sighed.
♡
jimin was slumped against his couch, eyes directed at the laptop in front of him, and tried focusing on the netflix original movie playing instead of his phone. he had texted taehyung several times, making sure that the date was still a go. the first few texts were reassuring that yes, yoongi said he'd be there. the last one though, he texted a quick "im dressed so pretty, you better not be lying" and taehyung hadn't replied in over fifteen minutes. for someone who would be quick to reply in less than two minutes, this probably meant the date was cancelled.
yoongi probably came to his senses and backed out on the date. he might have seen a photo of jimin, remembered him, and decided to save himself from the chubby-cheeked boy who regularly came to his underground rap battles in college to cheer him on. he wasn't that annoying, he'd like to think. so maybe his voice came out squeaky whenever he managed to utter a short "hi" when yoongi passed by him, but to his credit, he gradually lost the flailing limbs after the fifth rap battle.
okay, no, who was he kidding. yoongi had too many admirers, what with the whole brooding, mysterious, bad boy vibe he had going on. maybe he just had better things to do than go out on a date with his best friend's colleague.
jimin groaned and buried his face under the many pillows decorating his sofa. so much for the fuck me pants he wore specifically for this night.
just as jimin was contemplating changing into his pajamas, he heard three hard knocks against his door. he gulped and straightened his hair as much as he could before pulling open the door.
and there he was, in the flesh. a lot skinnier and paler than jimin remembered and his hair was now a natural black as compared to the platinum blond he used to sport back in college.
"uh, hi," yoongi said with a half smile, moving from foot to foot. "is jimin home?"
"that's me," jimin replied, blushing softly.
"oh!" yoongi gulped. "hey. i'm so sorry i'm late. sorry, i don't have your number but i, um, i don't know if taehyung told you, but i kinda got caught up with the police. they had to talk to me for a good, like, fifteen minutes or so."
jimin's eyes widened.
"no! no!" yoongi said, realizing how that might have come out. "there was a hit and run downtown and i helped the um, the lady in the car and called 119 and the cops naturally wanted to talk to me about the incident."
"oh, i see," jimin said in understanding, smiling softly. "don't worry about it. i hope you're all right."
"yeah, i am," yoongi winced, worried about not making a good first impression. "so, i know you probably don't want to, but since you look really nice tonight and i don't want your having to wait go to waste, do you still want to go on that date?"
jimin nodded his head so fast, he's surprised he didn't get whiplash.
♥
the walk to the restaurant was subdued. jimin initiated most of the conversation because yoongi was still hella embarassed about being incredibly late and looking like absolute trash. he's surprised jimin didn't call him out on it.
they finally arrived at the nearby fancy french restaurant he booked last week. the hostess looked nice enough, but when he went up to her to give his name, she took one quick look at his outfit and reluctantly apologized, turning him away.
"holy shit," yoongi said, facepalming himself and rubbed at his face so hard, it turned bright pink. "i completely forgot about the fucking dress code."
as an artist, working in a studio had its perks - yoongi answered mostly to himself and didn't have to dress nice (unless he had a client, and even then he can get away with his hobo-artsy outfits). so he had on a thin black shirt, sweatpants, and his butt-ugly comfortable sandals. the thing is, he really, honestly thought he'd be able to change at home first into something cooler than what he was wearing. or at least some actual fucking shoes, what the hell.
yoongi groaned, walking away from the restaurant and further down the sidewalk, at a complete loss at what to do. "fucking amazing. how else can i fuck up this night, tell me!" he yelled at the dark sky above them.
"hey, it's alright," jimin said, patting yoongi on his shoulder. "we can just go to another restaurant. there's a lot to choose from."
"but - but," yoongi spluttered. "you're dressed really, really nicely and we're not wasting it on a restaurant that's-"
"it doesn't matter, though."
"it does to me," yoongi grumbled but let himself be led away by jimin to a nearby restaurant that's still pretty nice, no reservations needed.
after they placed their orders - and yoongi made sure jimin ordered well, his latest sculpture just sold at a really extravagant price and he wanted to save the date, dammit - they settled into easy conversation. yoongi wasn't much of a conversationalist (his friends once compared talking to him like talking to a wall), but he found that conversation flowed easily with jimin. his date was warm and friendly and a really great listener. not that yoongi minded doing all the listening, in fact, he usually just listened and observed whenever he's forced into socializing by either taehyung or hoseok (how he ended up with extremely extroverted friends, he will never know), but jimin was able to get him out of his shell.
the getting to know each other stage was fun, not at all awkward as yoongi thought it would be. he told jimin all about his art and the studio he put up that's been running for a good four years now and it's earning pretty well. jimin told him about taking up vet med and interning with taehyung and hoseok at the community vet, stemming from his love of animals since he was a child. when yoongi learned that jimin went to the same college as him, he commented they might have mutual friends.
"i doubt it," jimin scoffed.
"is this a pass at my age?" yoongi joked. he was a good two years older than jimin and took up arts, located at the opposite direction of the science buildings, so it was actually unlikely they'd run in the same circles.
"nah, you're just way too cool for me. i can't freestyle rap even if my life depended on it."
yoongi's eyebrows shot up quickly. "oh, you've seen me rap?"
jimin blushed a deep, deep red. "um, yeah. i've seen a few battles. you were always with hoseok and the other guy, rap monster?"
"yeah, kim namjoon. that's so weird, i didn't think anyone really paid attention to our little gigs."
"it's not exactly little though..."
yoongi laughed. "yeah, i guess. joonie really knew how to draw a crowd."
"do you still rap?" jimin asked. after yoongi graduated, he hadn't heard news of them performing anymore. he asked hoseok one time after taehyung discovered his intense yoongi crush and the elder was very vague about it, merely shrugging and singing "c'est la vie, whatever will be, will be."
"i mean, i want to, but i don't know. joonie's in the US right now and rapping without him just doesn't feel right anymore so," yoongi shrugged. "if he ever comes home, maybe."
"ah, that's too bad. you guys were great."
"thanks," yoongi smiled shyly. he always liked rapping, but outside of his friends, he never met anyone who appreciated his performances. "i'm amazed you've even seen us. did hoseok tell you about it?"
"um, no, i just saw a flyer before. i've only recently met hoseok last year for internship."
"that's right, seokie and tae go to a different university," yoongi replied. "i forgot. it's just such a small world."
they end the night on a good note and yoongi is finally pleased with himself, when they ask for the bill. yoongi snatches the bill their server left on the table and moves to grab his wallet when - holy fuck balls. yoongi has never felt like crying - ever - but the universe is just so hell bent on making this night the worst possible night ever.
"are you okay?" jimin asked, seeing yoongi go paler than he already was.
yoongi's face crumpled up and put his head on the table. "i'm just waiting for the reaper to come pick me up."
"what's wrong?"
"i don't have my wallet with me," he said, his voice muffled by the tablecloth.
"what was that? sorry, i didn't catch that."
yoongi sighed and raised his head. "i don't have my wallet with me."
"oh! oh, here, give me," jimin said, bringing his hand out to get the bill from yoongi.
"no," yoongi said, turning from pale to bright pink. "i should have it here somewhere, i'm sure i didn't leave it at the studio... ah fuck, i must have left it in the ambulance when they asked for ID. dammit."
"that's fine, i can pay," jimin insisted.
"i'm sure you can. i just don't want you to. and i swear, this is not a schtick so i can get free food."
jimin chuckled. "i never thought it was. look, it's fine. honestly. now hand it over."
yoongi, for the third time that night, felt very embarrassed having to hand over the bill to this angelic guy he actually wanted to go on another date with. fat chance that's happening now.
♡
"i can explain!" taehyung called out, walking to the locker room at the back of the veterinary clinic where he knew jimin would be before the start of their shift.
"hey taetae," jimin greeted him as he pulled on his white coat with the words PARK JIMIN, INTERN sewn on the front pocket. "what did you do this time?"
"yoongi-hyung had a meltdown last night after he picked up his wallet from the hospital. i'd like to take this time to tell you that yoongi is a really, really nice person and he would never ever have left you to foot the whole bill. seriously. i can't even count the number of times hoseok and i mooched off him without him saying a word," taehyung laughed, "okay, that's a lie. he complains a lot, but it's only because hoseok-hyung has no chill with the samgyeopsal -"
"hey!" hoseok said, entering the locker room and catching the last of what taehyung was saying. "you were the one who went overboard with the steak the last time, that's why yoongi-hyung only lets us eat pork these days. he's very sorry, by the way, and is thinking up of ways to make it up to you."
jimin smiled. "it's honestly no big deal. i told him it didn't matter, i still had a good time."
"that's because our baby chim is crushing on our hyung big time!" taehyung said, wrapping his arms around jimin in a back hug.
"call me baby again, i will knee you in the balls."
"you can try, but you won't reach it, tiny baby."
"i will literally -" jimin turned around to get taehyung off his back and started aiming for his crotch with his knees.
"stop, stop!" taehyung cried between laughter.
the day went by quickly, especially since there was a larger number of patients than normal, that jimin hardly noticed the time pass by. he was busy trying to bring in a scared golden retriever inside its kennel to stay the night for intestine monitoring that he jumped back in surprise when he saw yoongi waiting for him behind the front counter of the clinic.
"yoongi-ssi," jimin said, partly in surprise, partly in happiness. "what are you doing here?"
"what's that? lover boy is here?" hoseok called from the back in one of the patient rooms he was cleaning up before they left for the night shift to take over.
"lover boy? my lover boy? kookie?" taehyung yelled from the next room over, also on cleaning duty, but rushed out holding a broom in one hand and went to a stop when he saw which lover boy hoseok meant. "oh," he muttered, then smirked mischievously. "this lover boy."
yoongi glared at teahyung. "you say another word and jungkook finds out it was you who messed up his overwatch settings."
taehyung gaped at him like a goldfish. "that's evil," he hissed but turned on his back anyway and went back to the room he was supposed to be cleaning.
hoseok, taking out the garbage from the room he was cleaning, stopped by the reception and was set to let out a number of teasing when yoongi's glare stopped him. "you say another word and i promise you we're getting a pet snake tomorrow."
hoseok gasped. "how dare you, min yoongi-ssi," he hissed and went out the clinic to throw the garbage bags he was holding.
"hey," yoongi finally smiled and greeted jimin who was still standing with a retriever in his hands, dumbfounded. "your shift ends at seven, right?"
"um, yeah."
"so, i was thinking," yoongi started.
"the whole night, the whole fucking night, he wouldn't let me and tae sleep. he talks while he thinks!" hoseok sang upon entering the clinic again, sailing past them to return to the patient room he came from.
"that our new pet snake's name is going to be nagini!" yoongi yelled at hoseok, who had shut the door and didn't hear his empty threat.
"you were saying?" jimin prompted, making yoongi realize he was actually there to ask for a second chance and not hurl threats at his friends.
"right. yeah, so i know we got off on the wrong foot last night but if you're up for it, i rebooked that restaurant we were supposed to go to last night and i'm sure you haven't had dinner yet..."
jimin smiled. "you asking me out for dinner?"
"nah, i'm just saying i brought my wallet this time. if you want to come with me then that's cool." yoongi was aiming for smooth. suave. cool. he desperately hoped jimin didn't notice the beads of sweat building up on his forehead.
to say that jimin was ecstatic was putting it mildly. never in a million years did he ever think he had a chance with his college crush but what do you know, yoongi apparently liked him enough to ask him out on a second date - despite the disastrous first date - and succeeding dates after. he'd like to thank his fuck me pants on that first fateful date. and maybe taehyung for snooping on his phone that one fine day when he only wanted taehyung to text his mom for him while he was working on putting a catheter on a poodle and taehyung randomly "discovered" his album of yoongi's underground performances, which led to him saying yoongi was actually one of his best friends and they should totally go on a date.
they've unofficially been dating for two weeks and jimin couldn't possibly be happier. since yoongi didn't really have specific work hours, he would always wait for jimin at the clinic after his shift or sometimes at the university library late at night while he studied for his licensure exams.
jimin obviously wanted to take the relationship a step further to make things more official since he was ready to boyfriend the man since his first year in college, but he didn't really want to initiate anything because he was afraid he might scare yoongi away. it had only been two weeks anyway and while they never really talked about it, he had a feeling yoongi was not the type to commit quickly.
"my boy loves deeply but he moves really slow, like a turtle," taehyung told him once when he voiced his thoughts. "don't worry, he's completely loyal. he won't date you for the sake of going on dates, so just sit pretty and have fun."
"he's not dating anyone else though, right?" jimin had asked, concerned.
hoseok laughed, a full belly laugh at his question and started choking on his own spit. "yeah right," he replied, wiping the tears from his eyes. and that was that.
that friday night, jimin was hanging out with yoongi in his apartment after yoongi insisted he'll cook for jimin since they've only ever eaten out since they started dating. it was very domestic, having yoongi all to himself in his apartment dressed casually in black skinny jeans and a black shirt with a snapback worn backwards. watching him work by the stove all serious business it made jimin think, damn, boyfriend material.
thankfully taehyung was staying over at jungkook's that night and hoseok took up a double shift at the clinic because he knew their friends would find a way to make their blissfully domestic moment a huge awkward mess.
"ugh, i'm so full," jimin moaned, collapsing on top of yoongi on the couch after they've eaten.
"did you like it?" yoongi asked, immediately wrapping his arms around jimin, brushing a kiss to the top of his head.
"yup, we should eat in more often,” jimin hummed, content to just lie with yoongi.
“you got it,” yoongi said, pressing soft kisses all over jimin’s face.
“honey, i'm home!" an obnoxious voice suddenly broke their moment of domesticity. yoongi sighed, grumbling and burying his face further to the crook of jimin's shoulder. "what's that i smell?"
"yoongi-hyung cooked chicken stew," jimin answered.
"good, so it's not the smell of sex then," hoseok replied cheekily, moving to the kitchen to scoop up a huge serving of rice and chicken, then settled down with them on the sofa. "move," he mumbled, face stuffed with food, turned on the tv and nudged the two to one side of the sofa.
"don't you have work to do?" yoongi growled but sat up with jimin, moving to the side so hoseok can settle down comfortably next to them.
"i just finished an eleven-hour shift at the clinic," hoseok replied, mouth still full of food. "at one point, i had to handle all incoming patients on my own, that's how busy it was. so just - ugh - i'm tired and i need me some romcom, now hush."
"sorry i wasn't there to back you up," jimin said, patting hoseok on the back.
yoongi frowned and grabbed the hand patting hoseok's back and placed it on the side of his cheek.
"i can feel the jealousy from here," hoseok commented but smiled back at jimin. "don't worry about it chim, it was a great learning experience. but seriously, the notebook is my favorite movie so if you two don't shut up -"
"okay, okay," jimin laughed and settled his back against yoongi's chest and instead brought out his phone to text yoongi.

"so," jimin started, flopping on the couch next to yoongi and scrolling through his phone to look at movie listings. "saturday date night, are we feeling suspense or comedy?"
it's been almost four months since jimin and yoongi started dating, but they act like they've known each other for much longer, knowing each others quirks and (annoying) habits inside out. jimin had become so comfortable being around yoongi that he no longer blushed whenever yoongi would lean in closer to stroke his face or give him a kiss, but instead leaned in closer. they still weren't official, but jimin would like to think he didn't mind since he supposed yoongi just wasn't one for labels. besides, even if they never placed a label on their relationship, there seemed to be an understanding that they were mutually exclusive, and that's all that really mattered to jimin anyway.
taehyung and hoseok called them an old married couple behind yoongi's back, but jimin secretly liked it. they had coupled off to setting a regular routine where yoongi would meet him after work so they can have dinner together if neither of them had prior commitments and always reserved saturday night as their movie night, where they had to try a movie both of them hadn't seen yet.
"go for suspense," yoongi murmured absentmindedly, stroking jimin's nape as he read through one of his client's emails.
jimin made a face. "nothing good though -"
"oh shit," yoongi exclaimed, looking up to face jimin.
"what? don't give me a heart attack!"
"sorry, nah, i just forgot to tell you i picked up a tutoring gig as a favor for one of my mom's friends."
jimin furrowed his eyebrows. "tutoring gig? you teaching art?"
"piano lessons," yoongi corrected. "you know how i told you i played piano in high school and got like regional recognition for winning some lame contest?"
"yeah?"
"so," yoongi scrunched his nose in embarrassment. "i'm still kinda famous in daegu for that with the ahjummas and one of them who moved here wants me to teach her daughter the basics and shit. no big. it's just twice a week for a month starting next week, but it's gonna cut in our saturday dates though."
"that sucks," jimin pouted. "but it's fine. we can just do sunday brunch or something."
yoongi shuddered. "veto on the brunch. but i'll make it up to you, i promise."
"y'all can just get a room please," jimin remarked, watching taehyung feed jungkook a spoonful of kimchi rice while making kissy noises.
hoseok raised an eyebrow at him. "you do know that you and yoongi-hyung are way worse than they are right?"
it was tuesday evening and the four of them were having dinner at a restaurant near the clinic that was also close enough jungkook's dorm for him to drop by and have dinner with them.
jimin looked affronted. "we are not!"
"yes, you are!" the three of them chorused.
"where's yoongi-hyung anyway?" jungkook asked, since yoongi usually joined them for dinner.
jimin sighed. "busy man. he's giving piano lessons to one of his mom's friend's kid."
jungkook frowned. "but isn't it too late for piano lessons? who the hell practices the piano at eight in the evening? do they not eat dinner or is that not a thing kids do these days?"
jimin shrugged. "beats me."
"well you should go get half of this to go and bring it to yoongi-hyung," hoseok suggested, motioning to the food laid out in front of them. "we've got a lot and you know how hyung can forget to eat when he's too wrapped up with work."
taehyung and jungkook exchanged worried glances and started piling their plates with food.
"or you can just order another set to go," hoseok said, rolling his eyes at the younger two.
jimin laughed and did as was suggested.
jimin skipped to the address yoongi told him earlier he'd be in, swinging the take-out bag he got for him, and stopped in front of a nice two-storey house. he wondered if he should wait for him by the steps or if the mom would be cool for him to drop by inside. in the end, jimin decided just to wait outside the gate since it was yoongi's first day and he didn't want him to get in trouble.
he looked at the windows, wanting to have a glimpse of yoongi, since he always found yoongi working on his paintings or sculptures fun to watch. he always had on a serious face, his eyebrows scrunched up and eyes laser focused on the piece in front of him. it was one of the things he liked about yoongi.
light was shining from one of the windows, so he guessed that's where they were. upon seeing yoongi's familiar messy hair, jimin smiled - and then - frowned. yoongi never told him he'd be tutoring someone their age. someone ridiculously pretty. and someone who was at that moment, laughing and pushing yoongi's hair back with her soft, delicate fingers. yoongi shyly deflected her fingers and fixed his hair himself - but it did nothing stop jimin from seething. when yoongi said he'd be giving piano lessons, jimin immediately thought he'd be teaching an eight-year old because who even learns to play the piano at twenty years old?
this girl, this obnoxiously pretty girl with her long glossy hair and slender neck and straight back - "what the hell?" jimin muttered, before turning his back and walked away.
♥
yoongi was absolutely certain jimin was avoiding him. other than the food jimin left for him on the dining table last tuesday night, he had not texted or called yoongi at all, which was weird because he'd normally get at least a good morning text if jimin was having a particularly busy day. he tried asking hoseok if he knew anything about it, but hoseok had been holed up in the library in preparation for his mock licensure exam to spare yoongi even a minute, and taehyung was busy slutting it up with jungkook that he hadn't returned to their apartment for a good three days.

taehyung finally returned back to their apartment that night and yoongi pulled him to the dining table to finally get best friend information on why jimin had been avoiding him for three days.
"well?" yoongi prompted.
taehyung smirked. "chim chim," he started, but then laughed. then almost fell out of the chair laughing.
"what?" yoongi asked flustered, looking at taehyung helplessly as his friend wiped his eyes from the tears of laughter spilling out.
"he thinks -" taehyung gasped, "he thinks you're interested in that girl you're giving piano lessons to."
"what? why would he think that?"
"because he saw her do this," taehyung reached his hand out to push yoongi's hair back.
"the fuck? he saw that?" yoongi replied, swatting taehyung's hand away from his face.
"he passed by that night to bring you food since you couldn't have dinner with us."
yoongi grinned. "you told him i'd never like her, right? i mean, for obvious reasons."
"of course not," taehyung snorted. "i'd like to see you sweat it out."
"you fucking ass!" yoongi roared and wrestled a laughing taehyung to the ground until he had him in a headlock.
"okay, okay!" taehyung yelled as he smacked yoongi's arm that was wrapped around his neck. "i told him you specifically only like dick, now get your hands off me or i'm telling kookie!"
"good," yoongi said, relenting from his hold on taehyung and helped him stand up. he reached for his phone in his back pocket to call jimin, but taehyung held his wrist. he looked up to see taehyung looking unnaturally serious.
"hyung, for real though, jimin's worried you don't think he's 'boyfriend material'. you might want to straighten that out with him."
"what the - what's he mean by that? we're dating, i'm sure he knows i like him."
"yeah, but he's the kind of guy who feels secure with the pretty labels we'd like to call 'boyfriend and boyfriend'. he said you never really made it official and he's scared if he brings it up it'll just scare you away."
"that's it? he wants us to be facebook official?"
taehyung shrugged. "in a way, i guess. i mean, he has his reasons. i don't think i should be the one talking to you about this, but it's a thing."
the following morning, yoongi let himself in jimin's studio apartment with the spare key he knew was kept under taehyung's snow globe in his room (in hindsight, he should have asked for it the night before while taehyung was awake, not in the morning while he slept with jungkook wrapped around his half naked body. yoongi still shivers at the memory).
"holy crap, you scared the shit out of me!" jimin yelled, staggering back at the sight of yoongi in his kitchen preparing breakfast like he owned the place.
yoongi took a deep breath. "i don't smell shit yet, so that's good. you're cleaning it up if you make a mess here."
"what are you doing here?"
"well, this guy i've been dating for the past four months suddenly decided to ignore me, so i thought - wild idea - i ask him about it instead of running away from people," yoongi turned around to place plates of omelette, rice and kimchi on the dining table and looked at jimin. "how is this relationship going to work if you don't even communicate with me?"
jimin blushed. "i don't even know what kind of relationship this is."
"okay, good, that's a start. now sit and have breakfast while we discuss this."
jimin pouted but did as he was told. they each filled their plates with food before yoongi spoke up again.
"so you want us to be like facebook official or something?"
jimin glared at him. "not when you say it like that."
"i don't know! like seriously, help me understand because i really don't get it. i like you a lot - a lot - so i don't know what else you want from me. like obviously, i won't start dating women, because please. but i'm not going to start hitting on other guys either. come on."
"but you never told me," jimin mumbled.
"i didn't think i had to. i spend practically all my free time with you, you know all of my friends and they apparently like you more than they like me despite my almost ten-year friendship with tae, that filthy scum," yoongi gritted his teeth, remembering the time he went home from work and taehyung asked him why he was in the apartment without jimin, like jimin was the one living there. "i make it a point to always set aside time for us, you know?"
jimin sniffled. "i know. i know you're not so great with the words, but that's just how i am, you know? like i need verbal reassurance and all that stupid fluffy shit. it's stupid."
"it's not stupid, i get it. i like when people show me they care, you like it when people tell you they care. so i'll do better next time."
"okay."
"okay."
♡
"so, to put your mind at ease," yoongi began as he pulled jimin to his side and wrapped his arm around his shoulders, making their way down the sidewalk to the clinic. "will you, park jimin, be my boyfriend?"
jimin blushed and started hitting yoongi on his shoulder.
"ow, you're freakishly strong - that's domestic abuse!"
"stop teasing me!"
"i'm not," yoongi said, straight-faced, "i'm serious. i really don't care what we're called so long as we're together, but if being called yoongi the genius jjang jjang man bboong boong's boyfriend makes you happy, then it makes me happy."
"i don't want yoongi jajangmyeon anymore," jimin retorted.
"aw, you're cute when you lie," yoongi smirked and slung his arm around jimin's shoulder again.
they walked in silence until jimin pulled yoongi's arm down from his shoulder. yoongi cocked an eyebrow at him. "i, uh, i prefer holding your hand," jimin flushed. "tae and hoseok-hyung always have their arms around my shoulder so... is it cool if, you know, i hold your hand?"
yoongi smiled slowly, intertwining his fingers around jimin's. "anytime."
