Work Text:
Have you ever been with someone that made you feel all of these amazing feelings, so many at a time, you honestly thought that nothing would ever be able to hurt you or harm you?
That’s what Jungkook was to you.
He made it seem like everything was going to be okay, with his promises of a future together, with an immense love he held for you. He made you feel as if you were completely and utterly all he cared about and you were the only thing that ever mattered to him.
He was someone who you always looked forward to see, to hear his voice in the mornings.
God, how you loved waking up next to him.
He had you completely wrapped around his finger and you were always quick to admit it with a proud smile on your lips.
Arguments were ugly, but it wasn’t like you had them all the time. He just got jealous easily and he seemed to get jealous a lot, you wouldn’t call those arguments. There was never any yelling, so you never got why all your friends told you that it wasn’t healthy. You’ve only ever cried twice, it wasn’t that big of a deal.
Jungkook would always be able to pull you into his arms and hug you close, whispers of how much he loved you and was sorry falling from his lips.
Of course you believed him, why wouldn’t you? He was one of the sweetest, smartest, and the most beautiful man you’ve ever had the pleasure to meet. And he was yours. And you were his.
That should be enough to know that he was telling the truth, shouldn’t it?
You loved Jungkook’s sense of humor, how he was always able to get you happy and laughing in mere seconds.
He was so stupid sometimes that you couldn’t do anything but laugh. The way his voice sounded was more beautiful than any song you’ve ever heard.
It was calming and something that you were always happy to listen to. You loved the way he could tell when you were upset, and how protective he would become and how quick he was to cup your face and give you tiny little kisses until he saw that smile that he claimed he loved “So so so so much!”
You have no idea how lucky you are to have been able to catch his heart, he was so out of your league.
“You love me for me, not just because I compliment you and brag about how special you are? You love me, don’t you?” You cried to him one day, tears running down your face at a rapid speed.
“Where did this come from?” He mumbled, looking at you with furrowed eyebrows.
“Jennie..she said the way we “argue” so much is bothersome. That you’re using me to make yourself feel better, that’s not true right?” Your words seemed to make Jungkook go stiff, watching as his jaw locked in place.
“You’re actually asking me this? You know me better! What’s wrong with you?” Jungkook asked, his voice cold and distant.
You seemed taken aback by his harshness, for all you wanted was comfort and reassurance. He knew about your insecurities, how bad they were. Why was he acting like this?
“I just..wanted you to tell me it wasn’t, just for you to stop my crying. Jennie just got me hurt and,” The rest of your words was cut off by Jungkook clicking his tongue, arms crossing as he looked down at you with a stern look.
“Don’t hang out with her anymore. She’s a liar and the only thing that’s ruining our relationship.”
His words hurt.
His words made you think.
You loved Jennie.
But Jungkook was right.
Jungkook was always right.
So you stopped talking to Jennie.
The way Jungkook talked to his friends was always something that made you proud, the way he treated them. Everyone admired and loved Jungkook and the fact that you were able to be with someone so respected and amazing was something that you were so grateful for.
You loved watching him talk with his friends, the way he would light up and get so bright and happy, how carefree he would become.
It was one of the only times you got to see the kid side of him and you absolutely adored that side of him. He was so special, so sweet, so kind. He could honestly do no wrong.
God, you loved him so much.
“We need to break up,” He said it so plainly and so dully, you nearly laughed. It had to be a joke and it wasn’t at all a funny one.
“What? Jungkook, what are you saying?” You murmured quietly, eyebrows furrowed as you tried to comprehend what was going on.
“Y/N, I don’t love you. I never really did, it was more of an infatuation. A crush, really,” He crossed his arms with a sigh, “I gotta move on to bigger and better things.”
His words cut through you like a knife. It hurt you, so so badly. But you couldn’t find anything within yourself to cry. But it was like a switched had turned on in your head, and you realized how much of a fool you really are.
He never really treated you the way you deserved, but he made you fall in love with him and so you always gave excuses. Excuse after excuse. Sometimes, you’ve used them before sometimes they were new ones. But they were always excuses that you convinced yourself, at the time, was the truth.
Jungkook made breaking up with you so simple, he never once shed a tear nor looked sad. The same Jungkook that had told you he loved you earlier that day walked right out of your life without leaving anything behind.
And when you asked him if he was sad, if this effected him at all, all he told you was, “It’s effecting you way more than it is with me.”
Then, he was gone.
In the days that followed, you acted strong and tough throughout the day, only to go and cry into your pillow in hopes of maybe feeling better, but you would only end up tiring yourself so much that you would fall asleep.
It was better to be asleep than to be thinking of him at least.
You stayed in bed one day, phone held in your hand while you laid curled up into a ball, scrolling through your social media. You had gone all day without thinking of him, he hadn’t even come to your mind at all. It was a big step in your recovery.
But then you saw something that shot you right through the heart, a name and face you never wanted to see.
The sad part was, it’s been nearly three months and you were just starting to get better when everything came crashing down again and you finally admitted the most pathetic truth in the whole world.
Jeon Jungkook really did have you wrapped around his finger, he did in the beginning and still does even after his departure. That wouldn’t be so bad since you were still in the recovering phase.
But the bad thing was, you were still his when he was now someone else’s.
You were just caught off guard, that’s it.
That’s all, it didn’t actually hurt you.
Excuses, excuses, excuses.
