Have you ever seen a shooting star?

Summary:

“You are part of an astronomy club but never saw shooting stars!?”

“Well… We live in Seoul, so...” He hesitated, still expecting to get killed for waking Yoongi up.

“Pack your things, we are going on a trip.”

“You know, you are much more beautiful to look at than the shooting stars.”

“Really, Taehyung? I bring you here to the beach so that you can see the goddamn phenomenon and you decide to pay attention to me instead?”

Work Text:

Yoongi could not tell in which moment between bumping in the hallways of college, getting to know each other, bumping a bit more, spending time together and becoming friends, had he fallen in love with Kim Taehyung. In fact, he did not want an explanation.

The boy was his polar opposite, living his life to its fullest in an exotic way, being hyperactive and smiling twenty-four hours a day, if not more. Min Yoongi liked quietness, spending hours in his room, as isolated as possible from other people. His smiles were more and more unusual and the only thing he did pleasantly was his music.

Yoongi wasn’t even sure if the other was straight, assuming all the heteronormativity of the Korean society, and even if he was bi, gay or pan, what were the chances of him being interested in someone as boring as Yoongi?

Almost none.

So the cotton-candy pink haired boy went on with his life, completely ignoring his one-sided crush.

“Tae, I told you not to work on your projects while eating.” Seokjin sat in front of him, trying to make room for the three plates of food he brought with himself.

Taehyung just grunted without looking up from the paper in front of him.

“What is it about this time?” Hoseok asked, coming alongside Yoongi.

The two had just recorded a new song that the pink haired boy created without rest, which made him choose to sleep on the table rather than eat like the others.

“Shooting stars...”

“Hmmm, looks cool.” Hoseok gave him his best smile, but did not receive another one from Taehyung.

Their lunch went by with only Seokjin and Hoseok chatting, Yoongi taking his much deserved nap and Taehyung chewing the tip of a pen and looking intensely at his work.

“How can I write an essay about shooting stars if I have never seen one!?” Taehyung gave up, banging his forehead on the table and whimpering.

This woke up the older, but instead of threatening him, the redhead got surprised.

“You are part of an astronomy club but never saw shooting stars!?”

“Well… We live in Seoul, so...” He hesitated, still expecting to get killed for waking Yoongi up.

“Pack your things, we are going on a trip.”

Yoongi left the table, ignoring the look Hoseok gave him, and the confusion of Seokjin and Taehyung.

The trip went by smoother than Yoongi expected with the younger’s personality. He put only girlgroups songs to play, singing along with each one without missing a beat. Never once did he demand the older’s attention, respecting the fact that he had to focus on the road.

Yoongi didn’t say where they were going. In fact, he didn’t give any explanation besides showing up Saturday morning at Taehyung’s house, shoving him inside the car and hitting the road.

And it was so worth it, arriving at their destination and seeing the redhead surprised, wide-eyed and with parted lips.

“The beach!?”

"Do you want a better place to see shooting stars?" He didn’t even finish asking and an enthusiastic shriek came from the younger, who opened the car door violently, racing down the asphalt to where it turned to sand, already taking off his shoes.

Yoongi could only laugh, genuinely, with that reaction. And maybe, for the first time ever, the pink-haired boy was genuinely happy – without it having to do with producing music, - an easy smile on his face as he got out of the car too.

By the time the older finally reached the beach, Taehyung was already at the shore, kicking the water.

And all that infatuation Yoongi hid so well god-knows-how-long came back with full force from seeing the redhead happy, at the sea shore with the sunset in the background. Poetic and romantic. Yoongi regretted not bringing his camera.

“Ok, let’s eat something before it gets dark and the phenomenon begins.” He held out his hand for the other, who didn’t hesitate on holding it, interlacing their fingers.

Yoongi ignored the slight feelings of butterflies that came from holding hands with Taehyung on the beach.

“Hyung…”

“Hm...?”

There was still a few minutes before the shooting stars began, but the sky was already bright. It was incredible how in Seoul they barely managed to see more than five stars but here, on the beach, they were illuminated only by them.

“Can I kiss you?”

“What!?” Yoongi could feel a crick on his neck for later by how fast he turned to stare wide-eyed at the redhead.

But Taehyung had such a calm expression despite what he was asking for, no trace of it being a joke or a misunderstanding.

“I know I might be hasty, that maybe you don’t reciprocate my feelings, but all of this…” He made a vague movement with his hand, referring to their surroundings. “Is so special, and I can only think about how perfect it would be to have you right now, even if it’s selfish of my part and…”

Yoongi didn’t let him finish, quickly moving to sit on his lap and sealing their lips together. Ironically, the shooting stars began during the kiss, making everything even more special.

“You know, you are much more beautiful to look at than the shooting stars.”

Taehyung wore a silly grin, gazing at the pink-haired boy as if he was the shooting star itself.

Really, Taehyung? I bring you here to the beach so that you can see the goddamn phenomenon and you decide to pay attention to me instead?” The older mumbled, in an attempt to disguise his red cheeks or how much he was enjoying all of this.

The redhead only laughed, pulling the older closer. Being naked on the sand wasn’t such a clever idea with the icy breeze hitting their exposed skin. But it was worth it. The starry sky, the sea, Yoongi. All of it was worth it.
