Chapter 1: Love Blooms In The Springtime

Chapter Text

Spring symbolized many things. Renewal, new beginnings, and many more.

For Izuku and Tenya, it was a time for them to nurture their newfound relationship. Among other things.

Things were still a bit… awkward, to say the least. Despite the rousing success of their first date (and first kiss, to their complete and utter embarrassment at the thought), things still needed to be defined, and they tried to do more things that were romantic-like.

Walking together to school wasn’t a valid option. After the majority of the Villain's Alliance was arrested and the school gave the all clear for students to return home, both of them opted to return home.

For Izuku, it was to give his mother just a little less to worry about. And she worried a lot . For Tenya, it was to help take care of his brother, and to lighten the load his parents carried taking care of him. Their homes weren’t very close to each other, and they both came to school at different times on most days.

Walking home was a much easier affair to deal with. Ochako fortunately and gladly understood that the two would have liked to do such a thing by themselves and the trio decided that they would all walk home together every other day. Otherwise, she would just walk home with one or more of their female classmates. (And on very rare occasions, with Kirishima and Bakugou, who was surprisingly fine with Uraraka joining them. A scandalous affair, Mineta once speculated. The little gremlin, of course, received a proper and swift explosion to the face. Divine punishment need not come from God himself.)

On the days where it was just Tenya and Izuku, they would walk just a bit slower than usual, soaking in the presence of one another.

Somedays, they stopped by the cafe where they went to their first date. All of the employees gladly served them (Shinsou had a smirk each time they came during his shift though, and the employee who serviced them on their first date always pushed for them to buy more).

Other days, they would go to each others houses. The first time Izuku brought his boyfriend home was challenge. After twenty minutes of reassuring his boyfriend that yes , it was fine for him to come inside, yes , we don’t need to go on five or more dates first, and yes , his mother would love to meet him, Izuku finally managed to bring Tenya into his apartment. His mother was on the couch watching one of her many soap operas, that day being her day off.

Mother and son shared a greeting, and Inko looked at Tenya in shock and giddiness. Her son brought a friend home!

“M-mom, this is Iida-kun. He’s uh, my boyfriend.” Izuku sheepishly explained. Inko’s expression changed into pure and absolute joy. Holy crap, her little boy brought his boyfriend home! She thought it would take longer!

As if on cue, Tenya bowed deeply. “Hello, Midoriya-san! As you have probably been told, I am Iida Tenya, your son’s boyfriend. It’s a great pleasure to meet you!”

Inko rose from her seat and gave a small bow as well. “It’s wonderful to meet you Iida-kun.” Her happy expression transformed into one of slight worry. “Oh Izuku, do we have any snacks for you both? I think we have some mochi in the fridge, but I’m not sure we have much else… Wait, I’m getting ahead of myself. Do you even like sweets, Iida-kun?”

Tenya quickly spoke. “I enjoy sweets a good bit Midoriya-san, and mochi is a perfectly good enough snack by itself. You don’t need to go any extra miles for my sake.”

“Y-yeah, mom, that’s good. Mind if Iida-kun and I do our homework in my room?” Tenya visibly blanched at that, but it went unnoticed by the Midoriya family.

“Go ahead! I’ll bring the mochi and tea in a bit, alright?” Inko cheerfully said, and quickly stepped into the kitchen.

“M-Midoriya-kun! Are you sure it’s alright if I go into your room?!” Tenya’s hands moved in a frenzy at the concept.

Izuku tilted his head at the taller teen, confusion clear as day. “Of course? I mean, you’ve been in my room plenty of times when we were back at the dorms.”

“T-that is true, but that was before we were in a relationship! And on top of that, we usually had more than just the two of us. But please don’t get me wrong, going into your room would be a wonderful thing to do-”

Izuku merely grasped Tenya’s hand, intertwined their fingers, and that was all it took for Tenya’s motor functions to disappear.

“I know that it is different. But I kinda thought it would be… nice? To spend more time with you that is. If you really don’t want to, we can just do it here! It’s fine!” Izuku explained with a slight blush.

Tenya regained his composure as fast as he could, and cleared his throat. “My apologies. I let my nerves get the best of me. That was... wrong of me to panic. We should get started on homework, yes? Where’s your room located?”

Izuku smiled broadly, causing an almost audible bump in Tenya’s chest. “It’s right by the entrance! Room on your left.” He explained, dragging his boyfriend into his room.

.

In his lover’s bedroom, Tenya was surprised as to how similar it looked to his old dorm room (He remembers when it was dubbed the “All Might Otaku Cave” by many a loving and caring classmate. Well, and Bakugou, though he used more profanites when describing the room.).

All Might merchandise was plastered everywhere, and Tenya couldn’t help but note what was in the room. Perhaps there was some All Might knick knack or whatever that his boyfriend didn’t have. It would make a good present.

Izuku, noticing the observation, blushed lightly. To have someone other than his parents in his room was pretty embarrassing. “M-make yourself comfy Iida-kun! Sit wherever you like!”

Tenya paused for a moment, before taking the chair situated at Izuku’s desk and positioning right next to your desk. “Since you don’t seem to have another chair like this, I thought it would be alright if we used your bed to do our work,” the bespeckled teen reasoned.

“Yeah, sounds like a great idea. Mind if we work on English first?” Gaining confirmation, Izuku quickly sat down on his bed.

Partway into their assignment, the door opened.

Inko quickly set down the tray with mochi and tea. Purse on her shoulder, she asked, “Mind if I step out for a bit, I still need to get groceries. Are you staying for dinner Iida-kun?”

“Are you certain Midoriya-san? I don’t wish to impose.”

Inko giggled. “You’re fine. Besides, I often cook too much. Anything in particular you like?”

With the lightest of blushes Tenya replied, “Let me ask my parents first.” He quickly shot of a text to his mother and in a minute or two received a reply. With a slight smile, Tenya asked, “Is beef stew alright?”

“It sounds like a plan. I’ll be back soon!” The door quietly closed, and the two got back to work.

An hour and then some passed until their homework was finally completed. Izuku’s mother had yet to return, and the two still had time to kill.

“Do you just want to watch something in the living room?”

“I’d think that be fun.” It took some coaxing, but Tenya had eventually been convinced to get out of uniform as much as he could. He took of his top attire, and only had a plain white undershirt on and his school pants on. After stuffing the rest of his clothes in his backpack, the two relocated to the living room.

Izuku quickly logged onto his Netflix, and the two settled in after a short debate on what to watch. There was a sizable gap between them, and while Tenya thought it was an appropriate distance, Izuku couldn’t help the slight frown adorned on his face.

With the quietest of sighs, the green-haired teen began to slowly nudge closer to his boyfriend.

Before Tenya could realize what was happening, Izuku sidled up right next to his forearm and laced their fingers together.

Tenya grew a bright crimson, and turned his head away in embarrassment and shame. Once more, his nervousness of the whole situation forced his boyfriend to take the lead. While he appreciated it greatly, Tenya couldn’t keep making his lover take the steps to make things more romantic! He must do something!

“Midoriya-kun… would it be too bold to ask if this is like a date?” Tenya calmly asked, minutes after his newfound determination.

Izuku, cheeks stained in red, gave a moment of thought. “Er… I guess you could call it that?”

“I see. Well, I… wanted to try something.”

“Y-yes?”

“Izuku.” Tenya eventually breathed out.

“H-huh?” Izuku’s blush intensified.

“Ah, f-forgive me. I just wanted to try calling you by your first name. Was that alright?”

“Yeah! That was nice… T-Tenya. Uhm, well, was that alright?”

At this, the show on the TV was nonexistent, and the two stared at each other. “Y-yes. That was… nice, as you said. Would it be fine… if we could call each other by our first names from now on?”

Izuku beamed. He leaned closer to Tenya, and the taller teen could make out the freckles dotted along his boyfriend’s face. “T-totally! I’d love to do that Iida--ah, I mean, T-Tenya. I meant Tenya…”

“I’m glad, Izuku.”

“Mmhm.”

Tenya slowly and gently placed his free hand along Izuku’s cheek, which quickly dyed itself in a scarlet hue. “May I ask one more thing?”

“Yes?” Izuku swallowed, hoping that what his boyfriend was about to say next was what he expected.

“Can I kiss you?”

Izuku nodded, and placed his unoccupied hand on Tenya’s thigh. “Go ahead.”

Tenya leaned in, and before he knew it, his lips were on Izuku’s. His lips were soft, warm,  and sent a chill down his spine. It made Tenya yearn for more. He pushed his mouth slightly rougher onto Izuku’s, and the green-haired boy complied with equal intensity. It could have lasted only a minute, an hour, maybe a year. Neither were sure. All in all, they eventually had to break away, and both of them were quietly gasping for air.

Izuku could feel the heat radiating off of Tenya’s face. With a slight chuckle he buried his face into Tenya’s chest vainly trying to fight off his own blush.

“Izuku… I’d like to apologize. For all my reluctance to come here today, and my lack of more intimate gestures before now.”

Izuku breathed out a chuckle and rose up until he was eye level with Tenya. He rested his forehead on his and gave a smile. The heat emanating from Tenya was as intense as ever. “That’s fine Tenya. I-I mean, we’re both new to this whole relationship thing, so I don’t blame you at all. I still really like you… and it makes me happy to see you so uh, forward, if that’s the right word.”

Tenya chuckled and gave a very dopey grin. “I’m… very happy to hear that. I like you a lot too, Izuku.”

At that moment, the apartment’s entrance let out a noticeable shake, startling the two and destroying the atmosphere completely and utterly.

“I’m back!” Inko’s cheerful cry came as the door opened. The couple jolted to the opposite ends of the couch. No intimate acts or heart-to-hearts were recently done, no ma’am.

“Oh, you boys done with your homework? Sorry to interrupt whatever you’re watching, but could one of you help me out with making dinner?”

Tenya automatically stood up. “Allow me. After all, I’m one who suggested what to make.”

Inko’s lips turned up at his offer. “Thank you, Iida-kun.” With a light laugh, Inko added, “Goodness Izuku, you sure snagged yourself a keeper!”

Tenya sputtered at the praise, and Izuku joined his mother in laughter.

She was right after all.
