Chapter 1: Puzzles (Prologue)

Chapter Text

Jimin's POV

Car rides were never one of my favourite things, sitting in a small area, a seatbelt restricting your movements in complete silence. Quietly my parents were seated in the front seat ignoring each other and merely growing such tension in the car. Multiple times I try to speak but the only response would be a mere hum or 'that's great Jimin' even if it really wasn't. For a long stretch of time the scenery around me was trees and landscapes which would very so often confuse me and would develop and grow curiosity wondering where this isolated all male boarding school was set. Still trying my luck, I would speak to my parents asking them how far we are to arrive to our set destination but yet again, mother would hum and father would stay silent. So I pulled out my phone, clicked the home button to bring it to life before running my finger over the screen and pressing in the digits in order to have full access to it. Pushing down onto the touch screen in order to activate the app with the phone, I intended to scroll down my contacts and press on the name printed in san serif 'Hoseok.' Placing the cold device against my ear I heard it ring, four times before his cheerful voice exploded from the phone.

"Ah Park Jimin! Did you make it yet?" He asks, other voices clearly heard.

"Not yet." I sigh desiring to leave this car already.

"You sound upset Jimin. Don't be sad, it's a new life...again." He spoke, his power of speech slowly decreasing. 'Again' spoken in a less than enthusiastic way.

"I'll miss you too Hoseok."

"What do you mean 'miss me?' You're going to be Mr Popular and have all the girl- sorry boys- swoon at the sight of you and before you know it you're going to have new friends and forget about me." Hoseok says ever so dramatically, his acting skills improving.

"You know you're the only friend I've held contact with for the past 5 years. No need to worry."

I heard him sigh, sigh so dramatically and audible I could almost feel his hot breath brush against my ear to which made my skin crawl.

"Just don't mess up this time Jimin." He said in a low whisper.

"I won't." Was my mere reply.

Silence again swept over but not for a long amount of time as Hoseok sighed once again before bidding his goodbyes for now. Once the call ended and I see the call screen vanish and spring back to my contacts, I heave out a sigh this causing my mother to show some sort of care.

"What's wrong Jimin?" She asked craning her neck.

I don't respond merely shrugging my shoulders as my eyes locked with hers, the ones now filling with rage. Mother never liked my attitude as she likes to call it. I would describe it as 'a taste of your own medicine' but parents are always right. She narrowed her eyes before rubbing her teeth against one another, the horrific sound piercing my ears.

"Don't look at me like that." She growled but all I did was avert my gaze away from her.

It was a typical double take when my eyes set to the window finally seeing a building, in fact a massive amount of buildings lined up side by side behind brick walls. This is the school I thought and when my fathers missed voice spoke saying 'we're here' my thought was deemed correct. A click was heard and the motion of the car came to halt giving me the indication that the car is off and I had to get out. The building was much bigger than expected, and the walls now so close it felt as though I stood in front of a giant's home and my only desire was to leave. Bag's set beside me, I looked over at my father who expressed a smile lacking happiness before standing up straight.

"Enjoy Jimin." He said before trailing around the car and back into the driver's seat.

"Wha-?"

But before my simple word was said, I was cut short by a new voice, a voice that seeped out happiness and joy. Looking over to where my ears picked up on that soothing voice, my mouth dropped open ever so slightly once my eyes landed on such an attractive male.

"You must be Jimin." He said, his smile so bright.

Tall he was, his height intimating me this making me want to stay at a reasonable distance so I won't have to strain my neck to look up at this boy. He had dark hair, messy no strands staying in place as though he had just woken up. He wore ripped blue jeans to which hugged his legs however in contrast to his white shirt to which was hanging off him like a loose rag along with expensive timberlands. Snapping out of my thoughts, I nod answering his question, to this he let out a slight laugh.

"I'm Jungkook."

To this I nodded showing the boy before me that I was taking in the words he said. He then let out a slight chuckle again before the words 'you don't speak much' rolled off his tongue and again, I didn't reply but merely averted my gaze. He then offered to take me to my dorm to which sent relief through me as the stress of looking lost was taken off my shoulders. I hoisted my backpack onto my shoulders and curled my fingers around the handle of my bag, pulling it off the ground. Stalking behind Jungkook, the building only grew bigger as we neared it and once entering the antique looking building, my jaw dropped. The ceiling was high up, a surprisingly shiny chandelier hung right in the middle. Subconsciously, I began walking backwards and the sudden contact with Jungkook's body against mine snapped me out of my sightseeing.

"Ha, you're cute." He mumbled.

To this, I gasped before moving away from Jungkook and turning on my heel in order to face him once again.

"Your room is 154. Uh, what letter again." Jungkook began, his hand running through his hair as his face expressed a confused expression.

I pursed my lips wondering what he was so confused about. So we stood there, 'um's' and 'hm's' passing his lips every so often until a new voice snapped him out of his thoughts and caused me to jump.

"154B." The voice spoke. This voice lacking any emotion, was rich with exhaustion and the word came out heavy.

I heard this person shuffle behind me before coming into view and to my shock he wasn't tall, in fact almost my height. His skin pale and his figure very petite, this boy wore tight fitting jeans with a mere black hoddie, his bright green hair a unique aspect.

"Min Yoongi." He spoke again, hand extended out for me to shake it in which, before hesitating, gladly shook.

"So you're my roommate for the year?"

And again all I did was nod.

"He doesn't speak much?" Yoongi asked looking over at Jungkook who merely replied with a 'yes, hasn't spoken since he got here.'

"It's okay, speak about me like I'm not here." I mumbled, head hung low hoping they didn't hear.

But they did. Their reaction was to shoot their gaze on me and when silence enveloped the room, I had to instinct to look up only to see them staring. They then quickly looked back at each other sharing facial expressions before looking back at me.

"He's cute." Yoongi comments.

"I know." Jungkook immediately agrees.

I roll my eyes and heave out a deep sigh.

This is going to be a long day.

***

Being late to your first day of a new school is probably the worst event to ever happen and what's even worse it's happening to me. Sleeping through my alarm but then also running into a sleepy Yoongi, which was terrifying, the boy's mood was one to be avoided. I still haven't spoken to Yoongi in a proper manner, merely nodded and spoke the words 'yes' or 'no.' Now I walk the empty halls, paper in hand, the one paper showing the map to which had my timetable conveniently printed on the back. Stupid me didn't look up to see if a wall was ahead or better a human and so I collided with a tall figure hoping it was Jungkook but sadly, wasn't.

Stumbling back, I managed to catch myself before I planted onto the floor in an embarrassing way.

"You seem lost." Now this voice was familiar, deep but familiar.

Raising my gaze, I locked eyes with a tall male who possessed bright bleached blonde hair, brown eyebrows mostly vibrant against the hair. His brown cheerful eyes confused me as I remember staring at such eyes before but the answer lay on the tip of my tongue.

"Uh, yeah." I reply not once tearing my eyes away from his.

"I'll show you around. Kim Taehyung." He introduced, a smile taking over his features.

That's when I froze, my heart stopped and my body was paralyzed. I held my breath as I stared at the boy before me. There was something off but I couldn't put my finger on it, so when I saw his bright brown eyes vanish and dark pupils enveloped the colour. Pieces of the puzzle came together, especially when 'Taehyung' passed my lips and his reply was, 'not quite him.'
