Work Text:
The two boys stared at each other, nervously fidgeting around. Despite their stares, they both tried to avoid the other one’s gaze.
“Kin-chan… are you sure this is a good idea…?”
“How should I know?”, the other one retorted immediately, blushing all over his face. “That wasn’t my idea!”
Well, it actually was, in some way. Even though he had not been the one to verbally push it, he had secretly wanted this for a very long time. And the longer he had spent time with Atsushi after his return from England, the more the others around them had demanded one of them should “make the next move”.
Everyone knew exactly what that was supposed to mean.
At some point, the boys had fabricated today’s meeting in such a way that their two friends would be all alone with each other, the last thing they had seen had been En’s grinning face.
After all, this guy had always made weird comments about the two of them, despite being so close to Atsushi himself.
And now they were here, unsure what to do.
Should they give in to the pressure their friends had silently issued on them or would they resist? Kinshirou was unsure himself, feeling it was indeed a good opportunity, but at the same time he feared what would come afterwards, what would happen to his resurrected friendship with Atsushi.
The blue haired boy was quite nervous himself, well understanding what kind of situation he had ended up in.
The longer Kinshirou looked, the more he wondered whether this was something Atsushi would want as well.
“Well”, Atsushi started after another awkward wave of silence, “this is at least a good opportunity, to… talk… I guess…”
From the corner of an eye, Kinshirou could see how one of Atsushi’s hands came a little closer to his, reaching out with one finger. He swallowed and mimicked the move until their pinky fingers were entwined.
More silence followed.
Kinshirou noticed how they were both staring at these fingers.
When looking up again, the boys’ faces were suddenly so close their noses nearly touched.
Kinshirou could feel Atsushi’s breath on his face.
His head leaned to one side without him really noticing.
“Kin-chan, should we really…”
There was no room for talk anymore. This was the chance, this was the moment.
He couldn’t wait anymore.
His lips touched Atsushi’s.
The silver haired boy couldn’t really tell for how long it actually lasted, but to him, this kiss felt like an eternity. So many things were going through him, an array of emotions he couldn’t sort out.
He couldn’t really think anything that moment.
That blissful eternity.
When he drew away again, he found Atsushi with the reddest face he had ever had. His glasses were nearly steaming.
The boy yanked his hand away from Kinshirou, and for a moment the latter thought his friend had not liked it. It was hard making any coherent thought in this situation.
The only thing he knew for sure was that his face felt so hot it might as well be melting.
He desperately tried to regain he composure.
“At-chan, I…”
Atsushi shook his head, stared at his hand and then back at Kinshirou.
“No, it’s okay. It was… nice.”
The student council president wasn’t sure if that was supposed to be good or bad. He still could not really find any clues how his friend had really felt about this.
Should he tell him he had liked it?
He hated not knowing what to do.
“The only thing is”, Atsushi started again, rubbing the back of his head in the process, “To tell the truth, I… I think it was…”
Kinshirou swallowed, his heart sunk. Lower than it already had, that was. In his eyes, he wasn’t beaten by his emotions all too often, but right now his body seemed determined to create a new record. His knees were as weak as never before.
“Well… how to put it… it was a little… too short…?”
Oh.
That was it?
That was all?
Suddenly, Kinshirou’s heart began beating again.
He swallowed for another time, making a slight move towards Atsushi’s hand.
“Well, maybe next time, we… could do it for a bit longer…?”
Damn. That was too blatant, wasn’t it. He had always had the feeling he needed to tread very carefully with this topic, since Atsushi surely had more suitors than just him. One wrong step could end everything, and he felt he was dangerously close right now.
Atsushi wasn’t the type for such blatant invitations, was he?
Was he?
Kinshirou had to admit he had no idea.
But Atsushi actually took his hand, squeezed it just barely.
“Yeah… next time… that would be great.”
He smiled, it was surely genuine.
It was beautiful.
He wanted to see more of this.
Kinshirou squeezed back just as gently.
“Okay. Next time…”
In silent agreement, they let go of each other’s hand again and returned to where they had last seen their friends. They could have kept their interlocked hands as they were, since the others had exactly calculated for something like that to happen, so it was futile to deny it, but they both felt better this way.
Whatever was to happen in the future, they should take small steps.
