Work Text:

It’s true that Hoseok was more outgoing that Jeongguk, and it’s also true that he often dragged his shy boyfriend to places that he didn’t really belong, like the rap battle that happened last fall. Jeongguk almost had a panic attack because of the small, cluttered space, in the end Hoseok won and Jeongguk calmed down, which obviously didn’t make his boyfriend worry less but they managed to get out without any more trouble.

Today is an exception, Jeongguk is excited , probably way more excited than all of the little kids found in the festival combined. He loves how the lights blink on and off, how slow the ferris wheel rotated, how the air was infested with the smell of buttery popcorn and more importantly how Hoseok didn’t leave his side for one second.

Their hands were always connected, walking around the attractions and food stalls appreciating the warm summer night filled with laughter.

Hoseok keeps smiling at him and laughing at the festival mascots – and he asked Jeongguk to take a picture of him with every single one –, Jeongguk keeps swinging their hands back and forth and tries to eat a corndog at the same time.

When the end of the festival was getting closer, Jeongguk decides to dote the older a little. Hoseok always gifted him amazing things – even when there was no necessity to do so, as Jeongguk says, over and over again – and being a poor college student , he couldn’t do such a thing with the same frequency as his boyfriend, but tonight he would change that.

Jeongguk tells Hoseok to get distracted with the mascots because he’s planning a surprise and he doesn’t need to ask twice, his boyfriend already skipping towards Ginny the Goat and Trevor the Turtle, waving excitedly.

He goes to the Balloon and Dart stall, blows nine out of twelve balloons and wins a medium sized penguin plushie that holds a cup of hot chocolate and wearing a cute scarf. Jeongguk smiles, happy with himself, Hoseok loved all things cute – Jeongguk included – and he would certainly love this.

Next stop: Skee Ball. He doesn’t do as well as he thought he would, getting beaten by a ten year old boy who sticks his tongue out at Jeongguk. Scoring two hundred points only gave him a little snow globe with a dolphin inside, instead of fake snow, star-shaped glitters swam around the plastic animal, giving the impression that it was swimming.

Deciding that the last game was a scam – his pride was hurt, alright? –, he went over to the last stall, The Claw. Jeongguk wanted to reunite with Hoseok as fast as possible so he had to be quick, giving himself a mental pep talk, he went over to the toy filled with determination and a fierce look. The stall worker gave him a weird look.

Surprising himself – and even the worker –, he won two plushies. One was a long coral snake that could be wrapped around his neck, like a very very thick scarf, and the other was a Scooby-Doo plushie with his tongue out. Jeongguk snorted and went back to find his boyfriend, who was probably lost, knowing that Hoseoks direction skills were lacking severely.

But thanks to fate, Jeongguk bumped into the older while trying to get an upper view from the crowd in front of him, actually, it was Hoseok who bumped into him from behind.

Jeongguk turned around to find the other already spilling an apologize for bumping into the stranger and- oh , it was no stranger, he smiled big and bright.

‘Hey, is your little surprise finished?’ – he asks, putting more popcorn into his mouth.

Jeongguk nodded – ‘And you, done talking to your furry friends?’

‘Yeah I am,’ – Hoseok laughed – ‘so, what’s up with all these plushies you’re holding?’

The other just stares at him, smiling. Hoseok turns his head a bit with a confused look stamped on his face, and then it clicked-

No way ! These aren’t for me, are they?’ – he asked, shoving the popcorn bag into Jeongguks arms while he brought the plushies to his chest.

‘No, actually, they’re for my lover who I’m in a secret relationship with.’ – Jeongguk throws popcorns into the air, trying to catch them with his mouth, he doesn’t succeed – ‘They’re obviously yours, Hobi!’

Hoseok laughs in response, placing the snake plushie around his neck, the penguin and Scooby-Doo under his arm while he inspected the snow globe. Jeongguk stared at him, a fond smile on his face.

They go back home that night with Hoseok clinging to Jeongguks arms, trying to kiss the youngers face on every chance he had.
