Chapter Text

Since birth, the sextuplets have always been together. However, in their first year of high school, they somehow drifted apart as they each developed their own personality.

Osomatsu, the eldest, was the reckless and carefree leader of the group. Choromatsu, the third son, was the serious and hard working brother. Ichimatsu, the fourth son, once a timid and considerate person, became violent ( mostly with Karamatsu ) and somewhat depressed. He also has this dark aura around him for most of the time. Jyushimatsu, the fifth son, transformed himself into a literal ball of sunshine and boundless energy with a radiant smile plastered on his face 24/7. Todomatsu, the youngest, had a desire to break free of their group and achieve the status that came with being a popular social butterfly.

As for Karamatsu, the second eldest, it was much more complicated. For the longest time, he didn't know who he was. It was understandable. He never had to worry about personality or individuality since he has always been a part of six. Nevertheless, if his brothers were going to change, then he had to as well. Karamatsu decided then that he wanted to be a cool and reliable big brother to his younger siblings and help support Osomatsu with his role as the eldest.

To achieve this goal, he joined the drama club in hopes learning how to conceal his true emotions behind a convincing act. He also began to use his acting skills to give the impression that he was a confident man. By spewing fancy embarrassing cringe-worthy lines, by being dramatic 90% of the time, by constantly wearing black racer glasses that someone gave him, and by offering his services to anyone that might need help, he was successful. In other words, he became known as the painful one.

While the other students found his painful display amusing ( which boosted his reputation just a tad bit ), his brothers found it annoying. At first, they tolerated his painfulness because they were still close, not yet having completely assumed their personality, but overtime, they started to treat him in a less than desirable manner. The playful teasing turned into the first “Shittymatsu” ever uttered by Ichimatsu that eventually turned into complete ignorance and irrational violence when faced with their painful second eldest brother.

Maybe they were jealous of his little burst of popularity, maybe they were releasing their pent up tension and stress from high school, or maybe they were just physically exhibiting their growing hatred for him. Karamatsu never figured out why or how things went the way they did when all he tried to do was change for their sake. He could do nothing but endure the endless tug of war between his emotions and his willpower, convincing himself that they don't mean it, that they still love him, that he can still hold on because he knows that someone believes in him.

Sadly, as they finished high school, it only got worse and worse each and every excruciating day that went by. He couldn't stop anymore, even if he wanted to. He immersed himself so much into this mask that served to hide his true self, that he could no longer recall who Karamatsu Matsuno was in the first place! And so he continued, destroying himself more and more, closing his heart more and more, locking away his emotions more and more…

… He keeps up the act

… none of his brothers take notice

… he is kidnapped by Chibita

… none of his brothers care and they leave him for dead

… he comes back home after two weeks with a broken arm, a broken leg, a bandaged head, and tears in his eyes

… he finds his brothers helping Ichimatsu with his problems and emotions, something involving a cat

… he isolates himself for a week, thinking, thinking, just thinking, and he knows it's dangerous

… none of his brothers are there for him

… Ichimatsu tries to break his favourite turquoise handheld mirror, the one Ichi doesn't remember giving him when they were still close, and he catches it before it shatters to the ground

… Ichimatsu did it because he couldn't stand his depressive attitude

... Ichimatsu says it's surely a plot to gain attention

…?

… Karamatsu Matsuno has finally reached his breaking point.

/////////////////

Karamatsu Matsuno is a man with a golden heart that would do everything to please his five other brothers. He likes to sing and write poetry. He finds beauty in even the most ugliest of things. He finds death to be the most beautiful.
