An Awkward Encounter

Summary:

Yoongi and Seokjin had dated years ago, but were forced to break up because of Seokjin's father the CEO.

Notes:

This, I'm aware, is very short. I wrote it in under an hour and I basically had no inspiration so it was entirely on a whim. However, I have wanted to do a series of short flashfics with different pairings (obviously starting with my otp). I can't guarantee these will be long, but I'm going to try my best to make them as enjoyable as possible.

Work Text:

“Black Americano, please,” Yoongi stuffed his hands in his pockets. He'd been up a little too late catching up with Game of Thrones. Perhaps he chose to tire himself out with dragons and blood baths to distract from the gaping hole in his chest, or he just had a crush on Jon Snow. Either was possible.

“You haven't changed one bit.” A voice said from behind him. A voice that made his palms sweat and heart rate pick up. “I’d have expected otherwise after all these years.”

“Hyung.” Yoongi turned slowly and looked up at Seokjin, immaculate as he always was. He wore a long grey trench coat and expensive looking pink jumper. His hair was black now though, clearly he’d grown out of the wild colours and constant bleach of his early twenties. Yoongi, on the other hand, couldn't stand his natural colour, so mint green it was.

“Long time no see, Yoongi.” He smiled, his expression somewhere between pity and pleasantly surprised.

“Black Americano for Yoonji?” The barista called out. Yoongi huffed; Seokjin chuckled. They always got his name wrong, even if he was a regular.

“Want to sit down? It'd be nice to catch up with you.”

Yoongi really ought to head back to his apartment; Jon Snow almost died. He needed to see what happened next. Despite his desire to see his hunky British crush, he said: “Sure.”

Seokjin collected his blueberry muffin and caramel macchiato and guided Yoongi to the plush green chairs.

“So,” Seokjin flopped into the armchair. “What’s been going on with you?”

“Not a lot,” Yoongi fiddled with the lid on his coffee. “Been releasing my music on youtube. I’ve had some good feedback, but my channel’s still pretty small.”

“Huh, I would've thought you’d get signed to a label.”

“I did too.”

“At least you’re still making your music though. I kind of gave up after…” Seokjin cleared his throat. “I’m actually working for my dad’s company full time now.”

“Oh cool,” Yoongi kept his head down; he didn't want Seokjin to see the plain anger on his face. “CEO yet?”

Seokjin laughed, “not yet, I'm actually in marketing.”

“Sounds thrilling.”

“It is,” Seokjin picked up on his sarcasm, “selling soy sauce has never been so exciting.”

Yoongi laughed. “Glad you're having a good time.”

There was a pause.

“You know,” Seokjin said, picking at his muffin. He looked awkward. “You didn't have to completely shut me out. We could have stayed friends.”

“Yeah well, I’m sure your dad would have loved that.”

“Don’t be like that,” Seokjin sat forward in his chair, getting closer to Yoongi. “I know he wasn't accepting, but he was just doing what he thought was best for-”

“You? His company? Oh what a shame that his son having a boyfriend would taint his perfect reputation.” He finally looked up, shooting daggers at Seokjin.

Who just sighed, “I guess so.”

“I just can't understand why,” Yoongi swallowed a lump in his throat, “why you would listen? Were you not happy with me? Was I not good enough for you? Because I know for a fact that I wasn't good enough for him.”

“No, no, Yoongi," he reached out and put his hand on Yoongi’s knee. “You were and always will mean more to me than all of that.”

He pulled his knee from Seokjin’s grasp, “sure doesn't seem like it.”

“Yoongichi.”

“No, you don't get to call me that anymore.”

“I’m sorry.” Seokjin looked down, ashamed. “I was wrong to leave you. But you have to understand why I did it.”

“You never explained! Never!” Yoongi snapped.

“He was dying.”

Yoongi inhaled.

“Hyung. I’m sorry. Is he-”

“No. He passed away.”

“Oh my god, Jin-hyung-”

“Don’t.” Seokjin looked up again, “Don’t pity me. I’ve had enough for a lifetime. And his.”

“I’m sorry-”

“You didn't know. No need to apologise.”

“So,” Yoongi swallowed. “Why are you not…”

“Because I’m not qualified enough.” Seokjin sat back and slumped back into the plush. “My uncle is running the company in the mean time.”

Yoongi said nothing. Not until Seokjin started to laugh. “What?”

“Funny thing is,” Seokjin panted, “now he’s gone, I don't have to abide by his rules.” Yoongi flushed. Did this mean…? “I was planning on contacting you soon.”

“Really?”

“Yeah, I wanted to get back together. It’s stupid that the way I deal with my dad dying is to contact my ex and see if he wants to get back together.” His laugh turned nervous. “But you won't right?”

Yoongi looked away, “well-”

“I’m sorry, I shouldn't have assumed-”

“You didn't let me finish.”

Seokjin cleared his throat. “Right. Sorry.”

“What I was saying was, I would like that.”

“Like what?”

Yoongi sighed. How was he this forgetful still? “I’d like to get back together. I missed you, idiot.”

Seokjin sat up. “You did?”

“You’re so dumb sometimes.” Yoongi pulled off his hood and leaned forward. He reached out and grabbed Seokjin’s collar and pulled him into a kiss.

“Now there’s no need to be so forceful.” Seokjin said, pulling away a little.

“Shut up.”
