Work Text:
kim namjoon was 13 when his class got a new student, kim seokjin. he doesn't remember much from that day, but he remember he thought jin was really cute and had to sit next to him. ever since that day he hasn't really gotten a chance to talk to him, because every time he's about to, he always chicken out the last minute.
namjoon was now 15 and had to wake up at 8 am to head to his school, because they were going on a field to busan. he was excited for busan, but not excited for the 5 hour bus ride he was about to take. when he arrived his school parking lot, he could see his classmates in a bundle trying to figure out where to sit, because even tho they're a bunch of 15 year old, they still had to be told where to sit. after his teacher said "we're going alphabetical," he could hear groaning from the girls who wanted to sit next to each other, but namjoon didn't really care where he sat as long as he could listen to his music.
namjoon didn't care where he sat, until he walked on the bus and saw who he had to sit next too. "kim namjoon," he mentally scolded himself as he walked and quietly sat next to a certain kim seokjin. namjoon thanked his lucky stars that jin was sleeping and would hopefully sleep for the next 5 hours, that way he didn't have to try and socialize. he plugged in his earphones and tried to cancel out all the noise around him and tried to get some sleep.
a while later he felt something heavy on his shoulder, startled he tried to turn his head only to be greeted by a fluff of brown hair. brown hair that was jins.
seokjins head was on his shoulder.
seokjin was sleeping, with his head on namjoons shoulder.
jin.
namjoon tried to sit very still so jin wouldn't wake up and tried to sleep again, but he couldn't knowing that jin was sleeping. he tried to focus on his music instead, tapping his fingers along with the beat, trying to distract himself when he bus suddenly hit a bumpy road making jin stir in his sleep and wake up. jin looked out the window while stretching before looking at namjoon, who was looking at him with wide eyes. namjoon was going to say something, before jin cut him off with an array of questions.
"oh shit, did I fall asleep on your shoulder?"
"why didn't you wake me up?"
"I didn't really mean too, was it heavy?
"I've been told I have a big head," insert a nervous laughter and head scratch.
namjoon could only look at the other boy with a smile on his face, making jin smile as well. "it's okay," namjoon finally said at last. "I was more worried about moving and waking you up." "how considerate of you," namjoon turned his face so jin wouldn't notice his blush.
namjoon was nervous about trying to have a conversation with jin, because he didn't know what to talk about. but he had nothing to be nervous about, because jin talked to him about anything and everything.
"what do you like to do in your free time?"
"what's your favorite food to eat?"
"why is the sky blue and not green?"
"if you won the lottery what would you do?"
namjoon liked that jin was asking all these questions, because that meant he could continue to talk to him.
after a while they went back to a comfortable silence. jin was looking out the window and namjoon was about to listen to his music when jin asked
"what are you listening too?"
"oh, just some epik high, have you heard of them?"
"yeah, my brother likes them, but I don't really listen to rap."
"aah, well do you want to listen with me?" namjoon said, smiling while offering one of his earbuds to jin.
jin smiled and nodded "yeah," before taking the earbud.
they spent the remaining hours talking about the music and namjoon played some of his favorite tracks and jin listened with a smile on his face.
maybe having the same last name wasn't so bad after all.
