You still taste iron and dust and the shimmering coldness of Kurogiri's form. It still lingers from when you teleported back to the bar. To when you told Sensei you failed. To when you left Noumu, the poor bastard, behind.

You sit up on your cot and regret it immediately. Kurogiri warped the bullets out and bandaged your wounds, but it still hurts even through the painkillers. It wouldn't have hurt if you'd stayed lying down, but that wasn't possible. Not after a team wipe as embarrassing as that. You tuck your pinky into your palm and reach to your bedside table, feeling blindly in the dark. Where's Father? You put him down right here- oh, there he is. Wincing with every motion, you slip him back into place over your features. There. Better.

You rise and weakly stumble to your desk, cursing the holes in your legs. Snipe is good. A miniboss at most, but he's got a strong gimmick. Healing items won't keep up... you'll need a counter next time. A tank that doesn't get blown through the fucking roof at least. You're still sure he used cheats, but you don't know how.

Pokemon is still good though. You retrieve your DS from the desk and return to bed. You're going to crush Lance with this new team, you know it. Handpicked for efficiency, a mix of power, utility, and support. Maxed IVs, stats, abilities. You even tracked down the good items that are a pain to find. This new team can't fail.
