Autumn Days

Summary:

It's Fall, and you know what that means. Halloween, playing in the leaves, sweater weather and hot cocoa.

Notes:

This is making up for the short fic I wrote, and for the lack of fics I've been publishing. I've been busy with school. Hopefully I'll get more stories out soon. Thanks for being patient, guys.

Work Text:

A crisp autumn breeze wafted through the neighborhood. Leaves ranging from shades of red, orange and gold falling to the ground, scattered around the concrete ground. Many houses were adorned with Halloween decorations, such as spiders, pumpkins, fake cobwebs, graveyards and skeletons.

The Kujo household, however, didn't have nearly as many as the neighboring houses. A few pumpkins here and there, a skeleton hanging from a tree, and cobwebs on the bushes. It was enough, though.

Jotaro sat on the couch, Jolyne in his lap, listening intently as he read a book out loud to her. You were in the kitchen, baking your famous pumpkin bread that Jolyne loved. You smiled in contentment as you watched your husband read to your daughter. The oven beeped, and you walked over to retrieve the pumpkin bread and set it out for cooling. Jolyne, of course, heard this and excitingly hopped out of Jotaro's lap and burst into the kitchen, eager to eat the bread.

"Is the pum' bread ready?" She asked, looking up at you with her big chartreuse eyes.

"Not yet, Jolyne. We have to let it cool first, okay?" You told Jolyne, smiling at her. You ruffled her hair and she frowned.

"Aww, okay.." Jolyne grumbled, turning to walk away but bumped into Jotaro's leg. "Sowwy, Papa!"

He chuckled and picked Jolyne up, lightly bouncing her. "It's fine, Jojo." he kissed her cheek, earning a giggle from his daughter. Jotaro walked over to you, wrapping his free hand around your waist and kissing you on the lips.

"Eww!"

You both laughed at Jolyne's reaction, but ignored her and kissed again.

"Mmm, I love you." You murmured.

"I love you too." Jotaro replied.

"What about me?" came Jolyne's voice.

"And I love you, Jolyne."

"Yay!"

Jotaro set his daughter down onto the floor and she ran off somewhere, leaving the two of you alone. He took this time to try and seduce you, lightly pushing you against the stove and trailing kisses down your neck. His hands roamed your body, exploring every inch of it.

"A-ahh, not now, Jotaro." You groaned.

"Why not?" His voice was hoarse.

"Because Joseph's going to arrive any minute now."

Jotaro cursed under his breath and moved away, but stole one last kiss from you. "Later." he affirmed.

The doorbell rang, you took it as Joseph's arrival and made your way to the door. Opening it, there he was, Joseph Joestar. He's grown old since the Egypt trip, now wearing glasses and he's been needing his cane more and more nowadays. Nonetheless, he still loved making trips to come visit you, Jotaro and Jolyne.

"Joseph! How are you?" you asked him, pulling him in for a hug.

"Hm? Oh, I've been doing good. What about you?"

You motioned for him to come inside, he happily obliged and stepped right in, taking in the place. "I've been doing great. Jolyne is excited for Halloween, she's going as a dolphin! Jotaro bought the outfit, she's so cute!"

"You have a lovely house, my dear."

"Thank you. Jolyne, Joseph is here!" You called out.

Jolyne came rushing out of her room, and threw herself upon Joseph's leg, hugging it. "Gran'pa Joseph!" She exclaimed. Joseph smiled and patted her head. Jotaro had finally come out of the kitchen, he stuffed his hands in his pockets and approached Joseph.

"Hey, old man." He greeted.

"Oh, hello Jotaro." Joseph gave a light wave.

"I just finished baking some pumpkin bread, once it cools would you like some, Joseph?" You offered.

"I'd love some, thank you. May I?" He gestured to a chair. You nodded, and he sat down on the chair with a light grunt. "Not what I used to be, eh?" Joseph laughed.

You and Jotaro laughed. It was true, he used to be absolutely ripped but he's now his age was catching up to him. Jolyne hopped into Joseph's lap and settled in quickly, looking at him with pleading eyes.

"Gran'pa Joseph, can you tell me a story?"

"Of course, dear! Did I tell you about the time..." Joseph went on to ramble about the 1940's and the Egypt trip. Jotaro rolled his eyes, giving a 'good grief', but you could tell he was grinning.

A couple of hours passed, the sun was slowly setting, transforming the sky into a beautiful shade of orange and purple. The had bread cooled , everyone was snacking and relaxing in front of the television, watching a Halloween special of a show Jolyne enjoyed. She still continued to sit in Joseph's lap, not that he minded. He loved kids, and he didn't visit much, so any quality time he spent with her was always cherished. You sat in Jotaro's lap, your hand entwined with his.
Star Platinum had come out and was sitting on the floor, curiously watching the cartoon. Your free hand gently playing with his wisps of hair, curling it around your finger and running your finger across his scalp.

"Ora."

"Hm? What is it, Star?" You asked absentmindedly.

"Ora!"

"He wants you to sit in his lap so he can play with your hair." Jotaro explained.

You laughed. You could practically feel jealousy radiating from Jotaro, so naturally, you decided to tease him. "Why, of course, Star!" Instantly getting up out of Jotaro's lap, you plopped onto the ground and into Star's, leaning into his touch.

"Can you do my hair next?" Jolyne asked Star Platinum.

"Ora!!" He boomed, nodding happily.

Star Platinum starting running his fingers through your hair, doing the exact same thing you were doing with his hair not too long ago. It was oddly relaxing, it made you drowsy you were struggling to stay awake. You lost track of the time, too engrossed in Star's actions. Jolyne had grown impatient and plopped in your lap, waiting for you to move so she could get her hair done.

"Okay, okay Jojo." You laughed. "You can have your turn now."

Jolyne nodded eagerly, and moved in your spot after you left Star's lap and returned to Jotaro's side. He was still stewing in his bitterness, you planted a kiss to his cheek.

"Don't worry, sweetheart. It was all in good fun, I'd never let anyone replace you." You murmured.

"Hmph."

"I'll make it up to you, alright?"

Jotaro glanced at you and nodded, you gave him a reassuring smile and he reluctantly wrapped his arm around your shoulder and pressed you close to his chest. He was affectionate when he wanted to be, sometimes he just had a tough time showing his love. You did have a slight idea that the reason Star was so affectionate was because it was the best way Jotaro could convey his emotions sometimes. Of course, this never stopped him from often showing you how much he loved you.

You watched as Star tried to put Jolyne's hair into a half braid, slightly failing but he was still proud of his work as he continued on. It was amusing, you had to admit. You decided you'd have to teach Star how to do some hair styles sooner or later. Both Jotaro and Star Platinum had little to no experience with braiding hair, it was something you had took upon yourself to learn seeing as how you never styled your hair, or others, at all in your life. With a couple of visits to your mom, beauty shop parlors and other tedious things, you could now put up Jolyne's hair into many different creative styles.
Glancing at the clock on the wall, you suddenly realized how late it was. It was 9:56, a little bit over Jolyne's bedtime. It was a Friday, so she could stay up later that usual, but not this late. Joseph seemed to be dozing off, too. Bedtime for everyone.

"Alright, Jolyne. It's time to go to bed." You told her.

"Aww, can I pwease stay up wonger?" She pleaded.

"No, Jolyne. You have a big day tomorrow, it's going to be Halloween! You want to save up your energy."

"No! Daddy, pwease let me stay up?" Jolyne asked her father.

Ah. The classic asking-the-other-parent trick. Damn it. Not to mention that Jotaro had a soft spot for when Jolyne called him 'daddy'- it reminded him of when she was baby. Her first word was to him, calling him 'Daddy.' Jotaro tried hard to keep a stern face on, but a slight smile managed to form on his features.

"Well..."

You glared at Jotaro. He sighed.

"Sorry, honey. You can't stay up tonight. Tomorrow night, I promise." Jotaro replied.

Jolyne pouted, and slumped back into Star's chest. He picked her up and carried her to her room, Jotaro following him to tuck Jolyne in. You, on the other hand, had to help Joseph to the guest room so he didn't fall asleep in the chair. God knows his back would hurt if he slept in it all night, you once accidentally fell asleep and ended up having to get a back massage from Jotaro.

"Come on, Joseph. We're all heading to bed now." You nudged him.

"Oh, okay..." He murmured, getting up and stretching.

Joseph followed you to the guest room, where you made preparations for him. Thanking you, he started to doze off. That was your queue to leave. Closing the door behind you, you peeked in the door to Jolyne's room. Jotaro was reading to her while Star Platinum sat in the bed with her for protection. Star's presence when being tucked in all started when Jolyne had a nightmare, she couldn't go to sleep without either Star or Jotaro being there. Jolyne had finally fallen asleep, Jotaro turned off the bedside lamp and turned on a night light, kissing her forehead and calling back Star Platinum. He gently closed the door, and walked over toward you.

"She's asleep?" You asked, kissing Jotaro. He wrapped his arms around you, pressing his forehead to yours and nodding. You both stood in the hall, embracing each other in silence for a moment.

"Movie?" Jotaro suggested after awhile.

"Maybe some other time, I'm kind of tired myself."

"I'll see you in bed soon, I need to finish writing some data down." Jotaro smooched you.

Breaking the embrace, you headed to the bedroom and got ready for bed.

The next morning had come. Halloween. The day went on almost painstakingly slow, according to Jolyne. She stayed in her dolphin costume all day, waiting for the time to come to start trick-or-treating.

You all spent the day playing in the front yard. Jolyne had ruined Jotaro's perfect pile of leaves by jumping into them and sprawling them all across the yard. Jotaro, in turn, punished her by throwing a gigantic arm full of leaves onto her head. The two of them ran around the yard, laughing and yelling.
Watching Jotaro cloud watch with his daughter on the ground brought warmth to your heart, Joseph also watching and smiling.

"Jolyne brings out a side of him that he usually hides." Joseph remarked. "I know my grandson seems off putting at times, but he truly cares for those he loves."

You nodded, "He loves her. I just wish he'd focus less on his work and more on us, sometimes..."

Joseph placed a comforting hand on your shoulder. "Don't worry." he reassured. You smiled, and placed your hand on his. You were snapped out of your thoughts by Jolyne's calls to you.

"Gran'pa Joseph! Gran'pa Joseph! Mumda! Come and wook at the clouds wit me and Daddy!"

"Let's hope the old man can actually get up after laying down." said Jotaro.

"Hey! I may be old but not that old!" Joseph protested.

You all laughed, much to Joseph's dismay who pouted in response. You and Joseph walked over to Jotaro and Jolyne, you lay on the ground while Joseph opted to sit down rather than be on his back.

Eventually you all headed back inside for some hot cocoa and a movie. That seemed to make the day go by faster, and to calm down Jolyne and stop her eager pacing for awhile .

Halloween quickly came, children and teenagers were starting to trick or treat around seven o'clock. Joseph opted to stay behind and give out candy to children, although you and Jotaro were slightly hesitant to leave him alone. Joseph insisted that he'd be fine, and you, Jotaro and Jolyne set off to go trick-or-treating.

Children were dressed up as skeletons, ghosts, cowboys, animals, witches and many more of your common costumes. A few were Star Wars characters, and some were Indiana Jones.
Many parents complimented Jolyne's costume, to which both her and Jotaro proudly thanked them. Once Jolyne's legs got tired and her bag grew too heavy to carry, Jotaro carried her on his shoulders and held the bag for her. She squealed in delight and held on tight to Jotaro's head, watching all the fellow trick or treaters running along.

The night dragged on, a full moon lighting up the streets with its bright light.

"Alright Jolyne, I think that's enough trick or treating for tonight. Let's go home and show Grandpa Joseph your candy!" You said, after noticing Jolyne yawn.

"Otay.." She mumbled, rubbing her eyes.

As soon as you reached the house, you watched Joseph handing out candy to a kid who was dressed up as a vampire.

"Oh, vampire! How cute! You know, I've met a few real vampires. There was this one in Egypt..." Joseph trailed off, catching himself before he went on a tangent about defeating DIO. He smiled and gave the kid two pieces of candy, the child thanked him and ran off to his parents, off to the next house. Jolyne approached Joseph, holding up her bag with a big grin.

"Twick or tweat!"

"Well, would you look at this. What a lovely costume you have! What are you?" Joseph feigned ignorance, causing Jolyne to laugh.

"I'm a dolphin!"

"That's just adorable, here you go." Joseph placed a piece of candy in Jolyne's bag.

The two laughed together, Joseph moved to allow Jolyne, Jotaro and you into the house. He closed the door and turned off the porch light, setting the mostly empty bowl onto a table.

Jolyne spilled out all her candy onto a table, picking through it to find her favorite candies.

"Now, Jolyne. We don't want you bouncing off the walls tonight, so you can only have five pieces. You can have more tomorrow, okay?" You told her.

"Otay!" Jolyne exclaimed, opening the wrapper to a candy bar and digging in.

Joseph watched her eat and started telling another story from his youth, this time it was a story about the time a 90 thousand year old Pillarman broke down in tears in front of him mid battle.
Jotaro came from behind you, bringing you close to his body and resting his head on your shoulder. You leaned into his touch, sighing in contentment.

Halloween is probably your favorite holiday of the year, too.
