He Had Wings, But He Fell

Summary:

Pollon met Celiane, and he knew he would love her forever.

Work Text:

He loves her.

He's spent every day at her side and he loves her.

He's spent years with her and seen every side of her.

He's seen her strength in battle. Power and skill and ferocity so bright it caught the eyes of the Angels and held them.

He's seen the strength of her heart. Her loyalty to her people, her faith in justice, her trust which starts small and grows too big to ever break. Her love which does the same, except it starts big, like the rift she created in his family.

She's a weapon for humanity, and like a blade she sliced into the Angels' lives and they never recovered.

Apollonius felt the cut more literally than the rest of them did. But he never complained; he had made his choice. Though it would have been preferable if Apollonius hadn't made such a display of it: seeing the horror and pain on her face as her lover ripped himself to pieces was a nightmare that he hoped to never repeat, and if Apollonius hadn't made her so happy afterwards, he would never have forgiven him for it.

All he wants is her happiness.

He just wants to see her shine forever, whether it's because he's at her side or someone else is, it doesn't matter, so long as she is happy.

That's not to say he wasn't cut by her blade as well.

He was also a proud Angel warrior. A terror to the Wingless brutes. He often fought alongside Apollonius, and he was there when her brightness blinded them. She confused him: a Wingless one so strong, how was she possible? So when Apollonius returned to her, he did as well. Soon enough he was visiting her on his own. Her bravery stilled him, her fearlessness when speaking to him left him speechless, and when she turned to leave him he could do nothing but remain at her side. He fought by her long before Apollonius chose to. They became a team, a pair, a partnership that he could only liken to that of Toma and Apollonius in terms of ease and intimacy.

He had wings and he flew but for her he fell, and not a day passed that he regretted it.

Not when his family turned away from him in disgust and disappointment.

Not when Apollonius joined them and turned her head and her heart.

Not when she died, and all he could do was follow her into death.

Not even when they found each other again and she didn't recognize him.

He loved her and he would love her until his soul burned away.
