Work Text:

"Hey, do you want to go out to eat with me after school?"

Those are the words that Jungkook hears before closing his gym locker. It comes to no surprise when he turns to see Min Yoongi, a senior, standing in front of him with a slight blush adorning his face.

Min Yoongi has been asking Jungkook out to eat every single day since the start of September and every single day since the start of September, Jungkook has said no. It's not that he has any particular reason to decline Yoongi's offer but he doesn't really have any reason to say yes to it either.

"Sorry, I can't today." Is Jungkook's fast reply before maneuvering around Yoongi to get out of the locker room and go to lunch.

"Maybe you'll say yes another time!" Is the last thing he hears before the doors close behind him.

----------------------------------

"Did he ask you out again?" Taehyung asks as he sits down next to Jungkook. Jungkook can only nod as he drinks from his water bottle.

"Man, how many times has it been? Like, 27!? 28!?" Taehyung exclaims, face filled with glee. He seems to find this whole predicament funny.

"Are we talking about Min Yoongi's big crush on Kookie, and how he's asked him out every single day since the start of September?" Comes the melodious voice of Jimin. "He's very determined, you can at least give him that." He chuckled slightly, looking at Jungkook who had stayed silent through Taehyung's laughs and Jimin's quiet giggles.

Jimin's face slowly morphed into one of worry. "He's not making you uncomfortable is he? Because if he is you should tell him to stop. No good can come out of a guy who can't take no for an answer."

Taehyung quickly chimes in: "Wellllllll...technically, Kookie's never said 'no', he's just said 'I can't today, sorry.' Or something of that sort. Speaking of which, why don't you just say no, it can't be that hard"

"I just figure he'll get tired out asking me out and just stop. And it's not like I hate the guy, I'm just not interested." Jungkook replies. "And besides Ch'usok starts tomorrow, so there's no need to worry about it for the next few days."

"Whatever you say, man." Is Taehyung's lazy reply. "Just don't say we didn't warn you."

Jungkook pays him no mind. Yoongi is a minor inconvenience at best, and someone can't be so adamantly crushing on someone that they'll continue asking them out after being rejected so many times. Jungkook doesn't need to worry about anything besides school, dance practice, and going to the gym regularly.

----------------------------------

Ch'usok came and went, and it was a brand new month. Jungkook and all his other classmates had gone back to the same school routine, that, yes, was boring, but at least it filled the days with something to do. He had just finished P.E. and along with his other classmates started changing in the locker rooms. Jungkook heard steps behind him, and he didn't have to turn around to guess who it was.

Jungkook had decided that he was finally just going to say 'no' to Yoongi. So, he steeled himself and said "I don't want to go out to get food with you. Ever."

"Well damn!" Was the exclamation of a very familiar voice behind him. "See if I ever sneak into the locker rooms to surprise you again." Taehyung complained loudly. "If that's the way you were going to reject Min Yoongi, I'm kind of glad you didn't. Couldn't you have been a little nicer?"

Jungkook looked at his friend with utter confusion. "Sorry. I thought you were him. And don't judge me on the way I reject people, you wouldn't have been able to do any better!" He exclaimed. Still utterly lost on why Yoongi hadn't approached him. He had been in class today talking to Jung Hoseok and he'd seen him go into the locker rooms...

"...if you want we can go out to eat after school." He heard a very familiar voice say. There was Min Yoongi asking out Jung Hoseok to eat with him after school. Did the senior have some weird after school dining kink?!

"Awwww!!!" Hoseok coos. "My little hyung is practicing how to interact with a human! You're so cute!" Hoseok then proceeds to wrap his long limbs around the, undeniably, small frame of Min Yoongi. Jungkook feels a twinge of something in his chest as he and Taehyung look on as the scene unfolds.

"Jesus christ, shut up Hobi! The whole locker room can hear you!" Yoongi hisses as he untangles himself from Hoseok's embrace, cheeks pink and lips curving into the undeniable shape of a smile.

Taehyung barks out a laugh as the two friends leave. "Well, that solves your Min Yoongi problem, doesn't it? Nothing to worry about now."

"Yeah." Jungkook replies. "Nothing to worry about."

----------------------------------

Ever since Yoongi asked out Hoseok in the locker room, he's stopped interacting with Jungkook. Which Jungkook should be pleased about but he keeps seeing them be all cutesy and coupley and it's honestly driving him crazy.

"Do they have to be so touchy?" He groans, as he sees Hoseok try and spoon feed an ungodly amount of rice into Yoongi's mouth.

Jimin looks at the couple with a soft smile. "I think it's kind of cute. Yoongi is all prickly and Hobi hyung is like the sun; warming up and eventually melting Yoongi's heart."

"Since when did you call Hoseok 'Hobi hyung'? Are you two that close?" Taehyung asks Jimin, smirk evident on his face.

Jimin blushes and begins to stutter out "It-it's just that, we..um...take the same dance classes at a studio, and we get along pretty well. And Ialsomayhaveatinycrushonhim?"

"I'm sorry, was that even a language, because it sounded like you said you liked..." Taehyung begins before Jimin's small hands cover his mouth. Taehyung's always had a problem with being loud.

"Shut up." Whispers Jimin. "Fine. I like him, but nothing's going to happen seeing as he is cuddled up with the love of Jungkook's life." Jimin cries out, deflecting his problems unto Jungkook.

"Yoongi isn't the love of my life!" Jungkook exclaims, affronted from the very suggestion. "What made you say that?"

"Oh, please." Tae and Jimin say at the same time.

"Ever since he started going out with Hoseok, you've been more pissy and irritated than usual." Jimin pointed out.

"Let's not even mention the fact that every time you see them together you always complain about them showing too much PDA." Taehyung pipes up. Unhelpfully, might Jungkook add.

"You two are ridiculous." Jungkook huffs out incredulously. As if he and Yoongi were even in the realm of being in love. They didn't even speak anymore for God's sake. The love of his life, as if.

"I'm leaving." Jungkook says. He throws one last glance and Yoongi and Hoseok, feeling the twinge in his chest that's been occurring a lot. Maybe he needs to see a doctor.

----------------------------------

It's been two months since Yoongi last asked out Jungkook and a month since Yoongi and Hoseok have started going out. And Jungkook is honestly fine, no matter what Taehyung and Jimin say, he's fine.

Jungkook stayed late after school today because the school gym had gotten some better equipment and he was eager to try them out. Jungkook had finished working out and was walking through the dimly lit hallway when he heard giggling coming from the open dance practice room.

He knew one of the giggles immediately, having been intimately familiar with Jimin's mischievous giggles every time they pulled pranks. The other giggle, he wasn't so sure about. It was deeper and a bit breathier. And instead of minding his own business, he peeked into the practice room to see Jimin and "...Hoseok?"

Now, Jungkook tries to stay level headed most of the time. He prides himself in being able to control his feelings, like the one time Taehyung drank all his banana milk and Jungkook decided to be the bigger person and not deck him immediately. But something about seeing Jimin and Hoseok with kiss plump lips made him mad, scratch mad, he was furious.

Hoseok was supposedly a good person. That's why he was dating Min Yoongi, who was a good person. A smart, good person like Yoongi doesn't date a cheating bastard like Hoseok, well, apparently he does. Because there was Hoseok kissing one of his best friends when he was supposed to be off being a mushy couple with Yoongi.

And who does Hoseok think he is cheating on Yoongi like that? Yoongi who is soft and not great at expressing his feelings. Yoongi who has the cutest smile that shows off his gums. Yoongi who pours his heart and soul into music (Jungkook heard him play the piano one time). Yoongi who doesn't seem to interact with a lot of people besides Hoseok and Namjoon. Yoongi who has two moles behind his left ear. Yoongi who wouldn't give up when he had a simple crush on Jungkook. Yoongi who always looks so undeniably in love with Hoseok.

That Yoongi doesn't deserve to be hurt. So, without any hesitation and without hearing Jimin's cry of "Jungkook let me explain!" Jungkook punches Hoseok. In the face. Hard.

Hoseok falls backwards on his ass and looks like he's about to cry, and Jungkook is about to go for round two when Jimin swiflty kicks Jungkook's knee, and Jungkook falls like a ton of bricks.

"Jimin, what the shit!" Jungkook screams out, fuming, and ready to fight Hoseok, knee be damned.

"Let me explain, you idiot." Jimin says in a steely voice, while he helps Hoseok up.

"Fine." Jungkook replies. "This better be a damn good explanation."

----------------------------------

"They're not dating. They never were dating." Jimin explains while he fusses around Hoseok, handing him and ice pack, a glass of water, and some pain meds. He's ignoring Jungkook's pain. Bastard.

"Hobi and Yoongi have always been close, Yoongi has had problems expressing it though. And during Ch'usok, Hobi mentioned Yoongi was particularly heartbroken." Here he sends a pointed look towards Jungkook. "Hobi, because he's a great best friend, took it upon himself to help Yoongi through it. Which meant showering him with affection every chance he got." At this point he looks at Jungkook to see if he's following, which he is, he still has one question.

"What if you're just making up an intricate lie, so I don't tell Yoongi?" Jungkook questions, it's not that he doesn't trust Jimin, Hoseok on the other hand...

"We talked to Yoongi hyung together." Hoseok pipes up. "He knew about my crush on Jimin since the start of the school year, and when I told him I'd asked Jimin out but had gotten turned down because Jimin thought we were together, Yoongi talked to the both of us, and explained that we weren't and gave us his blessing." Hoseok smiles at Jungkook and Jungkook honestly feels like the world's shittiest person because Hoseok's smile could cure all human known diseases.

"See." Jimin says. "We weren't doing anything wrong. Now apologize." Jimin then sends him the scariest glare known to man, and Jungkook feels like he's just been scolded by the sternest of parents.

Jungkook bows and says "I'm so sorry for doubting you and punching you Hoseok-ssi."

Hoseok laughs and tells him to call him hyung. So Jungkook tentatively agrees, but the feeling in his chest hasn't lessened at all.

----------------------------------

"I heard you punched Hobi in the face."

Those are the first words Jungkook hears before closing his gym locker. Everyone else has already left the locker room and now it's just him and Yoongi. Jungkook is avoiding eye contact at all costs, because eye contact means looking at Yoongi, and Jungkook isn't ready to face him.

"Look," Yoongi starts off "I don't know what your deal is but I'd really appreciate you not punching my best friend. He did nothing wrong, all he did was fool around with his boyfriend, who I know for a fact is your friend, and so, unless you're secretly homophobic, I'd like to know why he was hurt."

This is the first time that Yoongi has talked to him in two months and Jungkook is tongue tied, so the only thing he manages to squeak out is "I'm not homophobic, don't worry." Jungkook is ready to drop dead, he's blushing for no apparent reason and his heart is ready to burst out of his chest.

"I figured you weren't. I was just kidding. Relax, kid, I'm not going to hurt you." Yoongi soothes. "I just want to know why you punched him."

Jungkook's mouth goes dry when he manages to croak out "I just got angry because I thought the two of you were dating and I thought he was cheating on you." Jungkook somehow manages to go from the color of a tomato to the color of an even brighter tomato after uttering those words. The only thing that brings him comfort is the fact that Yoongi is the same color as him.

"Oh." Yoongi mutters. "That was...sweet of you to defend my honor and all that. No one's ever done that for me. Than you, I guess." And then he flashes Jungkook his cute as fuck gummy smile and Jungkook's chest feels heavy again.

"Well, you're welcome, I guess. I truly didn't mean to let my emotions take the better of me. I'm really sorry for punching Hobi hyung." Jungkook apologizes sincerely.

"It's fine." Yoongi says. "Hobi is stronger than he looks, he's just a bit sensitive. Silence envelops the two and it's bordering on the awkward side when Yoongi says "Well, see you around." Yoongi turns to leave and Jungkook wants to say something he just doesn't know what. So, while he's trying to figure out how words work he sees Yoongi's back disappear through two doors. He feels heartbroken but isn't entirely sure why.

----------------------------------

"I think I like Min Yoongi." Jungkook says as he sits down next to Taehyung and Jimin. Hoseok, who is usually attached to Jimin's hip, is helping Yoongi and Namjoon prepare for a music showcase, so he's thankfully not there to hear Jungkook confessing his feelings.

"Took you long enough." Taehyung said "It was getting kind of sad how you would just get emo about him dating Hoseok."

"He's got a point, Kookie." Jimin says "You were too focused on denying the fact that you weren't interested that you didn't actually notice that you WERE interested."

Taehyung and Jimin both look at him with expectant eyes and say "Well, what are you going to do about it?" Jungkook thinks it's creepy that they manage to say things in synch without even planning it beforehand.

"I was just kind of planning on ignored my feelings until I die." Jungkook admitted. "I mean, Hobi hyung said Yoongi was heartbroken because I'd rejected him so many times that it doesn't even feel like I should confess my feelings towards him at all."

"Well, don't tell Hobi or Yoongi I told you, but Hobi said that Yoongi stills likes you." Jimin whispers conspiratorially.

"See!" Taehyung cries out. "You still have a chance! AND the worst he could say is 'no'! Which you would honestly deserve after rejecting him for a month."

Jungkook chews his bottom lip and sighs. "I'll think about it." Tae and Jimin give him supportive thumbs ups but he's not entirely sure if Yoongi deserves someone like him.

----------------------------------

It's been a week since Jungkook took his head out of his ass and realized he had feelings for Yoongi. Now, he just has to deal with them. With the encouraging words of Taehyung, Jimin, and Hoseok ringing in his head Jungkook approaches Yoongi in the gym locker rooms.

His palms are sweating like crazy and he feels like it's cliche to ask out Yoongi in the same place that Yoongi did all those months ago but here goes nothing.

"Um.." His voice echoes in the locker room and Yoongi startles, turning around to face Jungkook.

"I was wondering..." Jungkook says more quietly "I was wondering if you'd like to go out to eat after school. With me?"

The locker room is quiet and Yoongi asks "What would you say if I said 'no'?"

Jungkook licks his lips and inhales and says "If you said 'no', I would ask you every day for a month if you'd like to go out, in the hope that one day you'd say yes."

Yoongi laughs quietly as he says "There are too many days in December. So, I'll just say this now."

Jungkook readies himself for the worst because he honestly deserves it. But the worst never comes, but what does happen is a hand is slipped into Jungkook's hand and he blinks up to see Yoongi smile and say "I'd love to go out to eat with you after school. My favorite food is lamb skewers."

Jungkook laughs loudly and happily, he squeezes Yoongi's hand and nods happily saying "Lamb skewers are my favorite as well."
