Work Text:
"I'm not going," Jimin said as he collapsed on the couch. Taehyung stood over him with his arms crossed and a pout on his face.
"But we go every year."
"Every year, my boyfriend hosted the party."
"Well, technically he's still hosting it."
"But he's not my boyfriend," Jimin said with a sigh before he covered his face with a pillow. "Also, I don't really want to go to the birthday party of a guy who not only broke my heart but also kicked me out of our apartment."
"But you've been moping for weeks. You need to get out and party. And besides, don't you want to show what's-his-face how great you're doing without him?"
"But I'm not doing great."
"He doesn't need to know that," Taehyung said before he moved the pillow away from Jimin's face. "C'mon Jiminie. I hate seeing you so down like this."
"Tae, I can't just show up there alone. He has 'the one' next to him and I'll look so pathetic just scowling at them all night."
"They're both assholes and you were too good for him," Taehyung said in a serious tone. "And you don't have to go alone. There's this guy I know-"
"Tae, you've set me up on three blind dates and none of them went well."
"Trust me, you'll love this guy!"
"Tae-"
"He is the definition of happy and he's pretty hot."
"If he's so great, you date him," Jimin said with a pout.
"You know, Namjoon and I did agree that if we were ever to pick a third-"
"Okay, enough," Jimin interrupted as he threw the pillow at the other's face.
"That's not even the best part."
"What's the best part?" Jimin asked as he rolled his eyes.
"He's a dancer too," he said with a smirk and Jimin raised an eyebrow.
"What kind of dancer?"
And that was how Jimin ended up going on yet another blind date with one of Taehyung's many friends.
Jimin bit his lip as he waited outside a Starbucks. He wore his dark jeans, a long sleeve black shirt underneath with his denim hooded jacket. The supposed 'great man' was an hour late and he already inwardly cursed himself and Taehyung for going along with the whole thing.
"Jimin?" a voice called out. He turned around to find a man keeled over and panting. "Sorry, I'm late," he said as he stood up straight. He wore a pair of ripped jeans and an oversized light brown sweater with a dog tag. "I'm Hoseok," he said as he held his hand out. Jimin shook his hand as his mind went through a number of things: He's cute, Why is he late?, Why is he sweating so much?, He's hot, Why is he so late?
"I'm sorry I'm late," he said with an awkward smile.
"It's alright," Jimin said, "It's only been an hour and a half," he added in sarcasm, which he immediately regretted. Hoseok looked slightly taken aback by the response and looked a little guilty. There were a few seconds of silence before he suggested they go inside. They walked in and Jimin felt a surge of nervousness hit him.
"Do you wanna order something or?" Jimin asked as they lined up.
"Yeah, I'm starving," Hoseok said, "My treat. For being an hour late," Hoseok said as he walked in front of him. The pair ordered a slice of cake each and two iced lattes. The woman at the register stated the price and Hoseok reached for his wallet. "Oh crap," Hoseok said, "I left my wallet," he added in a sort of panic. Jimin sighed.
"Seriously?" he said and Hoseok sent him a pleading look. "I'll cover it," the younger said as he pulled out his wallet and handed over his card. Hoseok bit his lip as they moved aside to look for a place to sit.
"I'm really sorry. I'll pay you back," he said as he bowed his head. Jimin narrowed his eyes at him but turned away. His mind drifted back to an earlier date he'd had where the guy knew full well who Jimin was and how much money his family made so didn't hesitate to let Jimin pay for everything. It took Taehyung literally dropkicking Jimin to knock some sense into him by making sure he knew he shouldn't be feeling guilty about not paying all the time. "It's fine, don't worry about it," he said as he walked towards a table.
They both sat and they sent each other awkward smiles.
"So-" they both said, "Sorry, you go, no you can-"
"Two iced lattes for Hoseok," a voice called out. Hoseok stood up quickly and moved to grab their orders. Jimin sighed before he shot a quick text to Taehyung: 'This was a horrible idea. Why did you make me do this again?'
"Here you go," Hoseok said as he placed down the tray and gave Jimin his order.
"Thanks."
"I should be thanking you," Hoseok said and Jimin just waved him off. They sat in silence as they ate their slices and drank.
"So," Jimin said, "Taehyung said you danced?"
"All my life," Hoseok said with a smile and his eyes lit up. The other was a little surprised at how his entire demeanor seemed to change. Jimin wanted to ask a follow up question but got distracted when he noticed the bracelet Hoseok had on his wrist.
"That's pretty," he said and Hoseok stared at him in question before he looked down, said a small thank you and pulled a sleeve over it. Jimin furrowed his brows. "I'm not gonna steal it, if that's what you're worried about."
"I wasn't."
"Then why did you hide it?"
"I don't know. People don't usually ask about it."
"It's just a bracelet. I can just buy several if I wanted to," he said and Hoseok looked at him like he grew a second head.
"Sorry I offended you by hiding my bracelet," he said before he sat up straight and placed his hands on his lap. Jimin looked away as he took a sip of his drink. A wave of guilt washed over him. He was about to apologize and ask for a do over but was unfortunately interrupted.
"Jimin?" a familiar voice called out. Jimin widened his eyes before he turned his head.
"Seojun?" he responded, a little breathlessly. Hoseok looked between the two and instantly felt smaller.
"You look well," Seojun replied with a smile. Jimin hated that his stomach flipped.
"You too," he said, "How's Ara?" he said as he forced a smile. Seojun paused for a moment.
"She's fine," he said before he turned his attention to Hoseok. "And how rude of me," he added, "I'm Lee Seojun."
"Jung Hoseok," was his response as he shook the man's hand.
"I'm an old friend of Jimin's and you are?"
"My boyfriend," Jimin said before Hoseok could even respond. Hoseok side eyed Jimin and could sense the tension in his shoulders.
"Oh," Seojun said, a little surprised. "Well then I guess I'll see you both at the party next weekend," he said with a smile. "Nice seeing you again, Jimin. Nice meeting you, Hoseok." After he nodded at them and walked away, Jimin exhaled as he visibly relaxed.
"I didn't know the date was going so well," Hoseok said with a raised eyebrow. Jimin sent him an unamused look. "Sorry," he said as he raised his hands up in defense. "And I can't go this weekend."
"Sorry?"
"He said he'd see us at a party next weekend? I can't go."
"Am I really the worst date you've ever had?"
"Close," Hoseok responded to which Jimin sighed. "But I have work that day."
"Can't you get it off?"
"You want me to get work off to come to some party where I pretend to be your boyfriend all night and listen to you and other people talk about how much money they have?"
"Ouch," Jimin said, "I didn't know it was such a horrible idea to be my boyfriend."
"Because this entire date is going so well," Hoseok said as he crossed his legs and arms. "Not to mention we only met like half an hour ago."
"It would've been two hours if you weren't late," Jimin said and Hoseok narrowed his eyes.
"Well, it's nice meeting you, Jimin," he said as he moved to stand up.
"Wait," Jimin said as he grabbed his hand. "Please," he pleaded. Hoseok looked at him and sighed.
"Listen, I can't get off work. I really need the money."
"I'll pay you," Jimin said quickly.
"I'm sorry?"
"I'll pay you to be my date for the party," he whispered.
"But I-"
"I'll pay you double what you get paid that shift," Jimin said.
"Wouldn't it be easier to just find another date?"
"But Seojun already met you. If I show up with another guy, it might look a little..you know," he said awkwardly. "I know we got off to a bad start but I mean, think about it?"
"Date turned business deal, nice," Hoseok said. "What are we supposed to tell TaeTae?"
Jimin was a little taken aback at the use of the nickname. There are very few people Taehyung allowed to call him by that name.
"I don't want to disappoint him," Jimin said sadly.
"Me either," Hoseok responded. They both looked at each other and nodded.
"You're both idiots," Taehyung said as he stood in front of Jimin and Hoseok who were seated on his couch. "You know, most people who have bad first dates either call it off or try again on a better day, not resort to business deals and money transactions."
"Tae, you weren't there," Jimin whined. "Seojun turned up and it was just- It was bad."
"Can you guys at least give it another chance after this charade of yours?" Taehyung asked with a hint of hope in his eyes.
"Sure," Hoseok said, "If he doesn't expect me to never be late or forget their wallet or you know, have a bad day, then yeah."
"Yeah and maybe if he wasn't so judgemental and concerned about how much money I make, maybe-"
"I'm judgemental?" the older interrupted. Taehyung sighed.
"Forget it. Do what you want," he said. "But I'm telling Namjoon," he added and the pair nodded before they looked at each other and shrugged.
Hoseok walked into his apartment and sighed loudly.
"How did I get myself into this?" he muttered to no one as he took off his shoes. Hoseok lived in a small studio apartment: a matress on the floor, a coffee table with cushions around it and a laptop on top that he got as a birthday present from his sister. He lived above a dance studio that he'd been slowly paying off for nearly two years. He managed to make some money when he taught a few lessons every week but mostly worked as a waiter at the cafe around the corner.
"At least I get paid," he said as he collapsed on his bed. He stared at the ceiling and looked at his phone. He was surprised to already find a message from Jimin. They had only just exchanged phone numbers and he left Taehyung's apartment with a promise of contact.
Jimin
What's your favorite color?
Hoseok narrowed his eyes.
Hoseok
I'm sorry, what?Jimin
If we're going to be boyfriends, I need to know more about you.Hoseok
I really don't think someone's going to go around asking us what each other's
favorite colors are.Hoseok
Unless that's something you people do since you have nothing else to talk
about.
Hoseok bit his lip and figured he should probably stop teasing the guy.
Jimin
You're hilarious.Jimin
But seriously, what is it?Hoseok
...............Hoseok
Green.Jimin
Really?Hoseok
What's wrong with green?Jimin
Nothing. I just didn't take you for a 'green' kind of guy.Hoseok
That's ridiculous. What does that even mean?Jimin
I don't know, it just seemed like you would like blue or red.Hoseok
I don't understand this conversation.Jimin
Anyway, where are you from?Hoseok
This is a very long first date.Hoseok
But I'm from Gwangju.Jimin
I'm a Busan kid.
Before Hoseok knew it, he and Jimin texted for a straight three hours. He cursed when he realised he forgot to leave some food out to defrost for dinner.
Hoseok
I hope you're happy. You distracted me enough to forget to make myself dinner.Jimin
Is this your way of asking me out to dinner?Hoseok
NoJimin
Because I kind of got distracted and missed the dinner party my dad threw a few hours ago.Hoseok
Is he gonna come over and banish you from the land?Jimin
I wish.
Hoseok pursed his lips at the response.
Hoseok
Have you ever had a late night convenience store ramen run?Jimin
No?Hoseok
Meet me at the one next to the Han River.Jimin
Are you about to murder me?Hoseok
You'll have to come to find out.
Jimin read the message and laughed. Taehyung sat on the other side of the couch and looked at him with a raised eyebrow.
"I'm going out for dinner."
"I thought that you had that dinner party to go to?"
"My dad won't kill me for missing one," he said nonchalantly as he waved a hand at him, half distracted by another message he received from Hoseok. He shoved the phone in his pocket before he stood from the couch.
"Where are you going?"
"Han River," he said and Taehyung narrowed his eyes as he watched Jimin put on his shoes.
"Use protection!" Taehyung shouted as the other man walked out of the door. Jimin rolled his eyes.
Han River wasn't too far from Taehyung's place but he didn't feel up to walking in the cold and called for a ride. He didn't acknowledge the excited feeling at the bottom of his stomach at the thought of seeing Hoseok again.
A few minutes later, when he arrived at the destination, he glanced out of the window and noticed Hoseok stood in front of the store in the distance, headphones on and attention on his phone. Jimin smiled.
Hoseok felt a tug on his arm and jumped at the sudden action. He looked up and was met with Jimin's smile.
"You scared me," he said as he removed his headphones.
"Sorry if my face terrified you," the other responded. Hoseok rolled his eyes before he walked towards the entrance of the store.
"How'd you get here before me?"
"I figured you'd appreciate me being punctual."
"I do appreciate the effort," Jimin responded."You know, this date is probably the longest I've ever had," Jimin said as he followed after the other.
"I aim to please," Hoseok said before he went to the counter. Jimin moved to take out his wallet but Hoseok stopped him."I said I'd pay you back so," he continued as he handed the woman his card.
"A true gentleman," Jimin said, "Glad you didn't forget your wallet this time."
The pair moved to the area to make their ramen as they continued to banter over the supposed second date they were having. Hoseok eventually led them outside to an empty table he noticed in the corner.
"Is this supposed to be a do over of our first date?" Jimin asked.
"Kinda," Hoseok said and they both moved to eat. They didn't bother to speak as they ate, more hungry than they thought. Suddenly, Jimin paused mid way through their meal and stared at Hoseok.
"I'm sorry," Jimin said and Hoseok stopped himself from taking another bite. "I was pretty rude to you today," he continued, "I wasn't really in the 'dating' mood and I let every small thing get to me and I'm just sorry," he finished shyly as he clasped his hands together and stared at the table.
Hoseok widened his eyes a little at the other's words before he sat up straight and stared at him.
"I am too," he responded, "I was running kinda late because I slept in from working the night shift and I was too much in a rush to remember to take my wallet," he explained, "And I know I was being a little harsh about the whole rich thing. I've just had some bad experiences with some people and I'm kind of struggling a little so I guess I just blew that up on you."
"But I was a dick," Jimin said with a pout as he continued to stare at the table.
"You were," Hoseok said and Jimin looked up at him. They both laughed.
"Friends?" the younger asked, a little nervously.
"You mean after we continue this business deal and fake being in love for a whole night in front of hundreds of people?"
"Yep."
"Then yes, friends."
They both smiled before they continued to eat. They decided on getting ice cream for dessert with the thought of walking along the river. Neither really wanted to go home yet. They each got ice cream in a cup and walked in silence until Hoseok spoke.
"So, what's with you and this Seojun guy?" Hoseok asked and Jimin stopped walking. "Too much?" he said as he looked back to see a slightly stunned Jimin.
"No, just, caught me off guard," he said awkwardly. They both continued to eat and walk in silence for a few seconds before Jimin sighed.
"You don't have to tell me."
"I mean, I might as well seeing as you're the current love of my life," Jimin said somewhat dramatically. Hoseok laughed. "I kinda dated the guy for like three years."
"Kinda?"
"I was never really sure?" he said, "We went on a lot of dates and stuff and he treated me like a boyfriend."
"But?"
"It was all a secret. He said he had to protect his public image and-" he took a deep breath. "Yeah," Jimin said with a shrug. They both stopped for a moment and looked at each other. "I mean it was nice. For a while. We even moved in together."
"What happened?"
"I guess he just wasn't happy. I was busy with work and studies and he thought I didn't think of him as a priority," he paused, "So he figured he would find that in someone else. He just happened to forget to tell me he already found that person about two years into the relationship."
"What?!"
"Yeah, he said that he got one of his friends to be his fake girlfriend so his parents wouldn't get too suspicious but I guess he got a real one instead," he said with a shrug.
"Asshole," Hoseok said angrily.
"That's what I told him," Jimin said with a forced smile. "But yeah, he asked me to move out so I did and I've been living on Tae's couch for the last few months."
"I'm sorry," the older said with a pout, "I'm really sorry," he added before he pulled Jimin into a hug. Jimin was a little taken aback by the gesture but the hug was warm and nice. Hoseok was warm and nice. "We'll put on a hell of a show for him that weekend yeah?" he said as he pulled away. Jimin smiled with teary eyes.
"Thanks."
"Anything for the love of my life," Hoseok said and they both laughed. "Also, I really need that money," he added and Jimin smacked his shoulder. He faked a pained cry and the laughter continued. They ended up walking for another hour and a half before they decided to go home.
The last thing the pair saw was a message from the other saying Good Night.
"Tell me again why you and Hoseok aren't dating?" Taehyung said as he grabbed Jimin's phone from his hands.
"Hey!"
"You went on the date nearly a week ago and have been meeting up and texting each other non stop."
"We decided to stay friends," he said before he took his phone back from Taehyung.
"Right," he said, "Are you sure about this Jimin?"
"You're the one who said I needed to get out and party."
"Yeah but will you be okay with just being friends with Hoseok after this?"
"Why wouldn't I be?"
"Nothing, don't worry about it," Taehyung said as he patted the other's head. "I'll play along but if it gets too much just tell me okay?"
Jimin tilted his head in confusion but nodded anyway before his attention turned back to his phone.
Hoseok
Are we supposed to wear matching outfits?Jimin
What?Hoseok
For the party. Keep up, Jimin.Jimin
Too cheesy maybe?Hoseok
I guess. Well, I think I know what I'm gonna wear.Jimin
Pics?Hoseok
Spoilers, Jimin. It'll be a surprise.Jimin
How surprising can it be for someone to wear a suit?Hoseok
You never know. It might make you fall in love.
Jimin paused for a moment.
Hoseok
Well, more than you already are.Jimin
ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ
Jimin typed out the characters but had a small fear in the back of his mind that the previous statement could end up true. He shook those thoughts out of his head with the knowledge that he'd only known Hoseok for about week and he just felt anxious because the party was within the next few days.
Hoseok
Do you want to come over?Hoseok
I wanna show you the dance studio you happen to be helping me fund.Jimin
Are we about to have a dance battle?Hoseok
If you're lucky.Hoseok
I'm about to hold a couple classes though so give me like two hours?
Jimin grinned before he stood up and rushed to get ready. He didn't want to miss that.
Jimin stood in front of the building and heard music being played from the upper level. He walked in and noticed a young man, he assumed was the receptionist, using his phone behind the desk. He walked over and stood there awkwardly.
"Excuse me?" Jimin said and the man looked up.
"Are you here to pick someone up from class?" the other asked. Jimin perked at the man's accent.
"Actually, I'm a friend of Hoseok's," he responded.
"I'm Jungkook," the man said, "I sometimes help hyung out when he's doing dance lessons," he added.
"Busan?" Jimin said a little excitedly and Jungkook's eyes lit up. They both slipped into their dialect as they talked about where they were from.
"Have you ever seen Hoseok teach before?" Jungkook asked and Jimin shook his head. He gestured for him to follow and led him upstairs.
He could hear Hoseok's voice loudly over the music.
"5, 6, 7, 8 and pam pam pam," he said to the beat and Jimin opened the door.
There were roughly 15 people in the class. They were all spread around the room and looked around the 18-20 years old range.
"Good, again," Hoseok said as he looked up at the mirror. He spotted Jimin and widened his eyes. He shook his head when he started to count again and repeat the routine. Jungkook and Jimin sat at the back and watched excitedly as Hoseok repeated the same routine with the class a few more times. "Okay, I'll see you guys next week," he said when the song ended. A few of his students collapsed to the ground in exhaustion, some walked towards their bags while others walked up to Hoseok to speak to him. Jimin raised an eyebrow at a few of the girls who were giggling as they talked.
"Those two have been trying to hit on him for ages," Jungkook whispered. "Hoseok sucks at rejecting people though. He says 'no' pretty clearly but then he smiles and you're just back to where you started," he said with a sigh.
"Sounds like you have first hand experience."
"I do," he said with a shrug. Jimin sent him a curious look and the other shrugged. He was about to ask a question when Hoseok yelled out.
"Jimin!" he said excitedly as he walked over. "What are you doing here?"
"I didn't want to miss my boyfriend giving dance lessons," he slipped out with a grin. Hoseok widened his eyes.
"Yah-" he started but was interrupted when he noticed the looks they were getting.
"Oppa, you didn't tell us you had a boyfriend!" one of the girls yelled out.
"Lesson's over! Everybody, home," Hoseok said as he guided everyone out the studio despite the rapid questioning that occurred in the process. "I'll see you next week." Once the older closed the door though, Jungkook stood up.
"I'm sorry, what?" Jungkook said, eyes wide as he looked between Hoseok and Jimin.
"It's not-" Jimin started but Hoseok placed a hand over his face.
"Sorry," Hoseok said, "We didn't want to tell anyone yet." Jimin sent him a questioning look.
Jungkook narrowed his eyes at Jimin.
"Do you just like Busan men then?" Jungkook asked and Hoseok cursed before he smacked the younger's head.
"Go back downstairs and let the kids in," he said and Jungkook stuck his tongue out at him before he followed his instructions.
"And we didn't tell your friend because?"
"If he finds out you're paying me to parade myself around as your boyfriend, he'd be pissed," Hoseok said. "He worries about me too much."
"He seems like he cares about you a lot," Jimin said and felt a hint of jealousy creep into his chest.
"He's kind of my ex," the older said with a shrug.
"I'm sorry, what?"
"Yeah, we were together since before I even bought this studio," he said before he started to stretch again.
"And you're still friends?"
"It wasn't so much a relationship as a sort of someone to fool around with," he said with his cheeks flushed. Whether it was from the dancing or the statement, Jimin didn't know.
"Oh."
"Oh?"
"That's nice."
"You seem upset," Hoseok said with a raised eyebrow. "Jealous?"
"Shut up," Jimin said as he crossed his arms.
"We just didn't feel that way about each other so we decided to stick to being friends."
The door opened and a crowd of children ran in, shouts of 'Seonsaeng-nim!' (translation: teacher) travelled around the room. Jimin's heart warmed at the sight of all of them excitedly trying to give Hoseok a hug.
Hoseok laughed and fell to the ground when he was swarmed by the children's affections.
"Okay, that's enough," Hoseok said with a smile as he patted their heads and stood up. Jimin wanted to squish their faces.
"Babies," Jimin said as he covered his face with his hands.
"Excuse me," a voice said and Jimin glanced over to find a little boy who had a confused look on his face. "Who are you?"
"I'm Hoseok-seonsaengnim's boyfriend," Jimin said with a smile. The boy widened his eyes and gasped.
"Seonsaengnim!" he yelled and everyone turned around. "You have a girlfriend?!" he asked and the other children gasped. Hoseok face palmed.
"Are you gonna get married?" a girl asked excitedly as she grabbed on Jimin's arm.
"Are you gonna have babies?" another boy asked.
"Okay, that's enough!" Hoseok said as he placed his hands on his hips. Jimin had a wide smile on his face as he looked at each child. "Jimin is here as a visitor but don't let him distract you from dancing okay?"
"Yes, seonsangnim!" they chorused. Jimin's heart melted.
"Okay, now let's do some stretching," he said with a smile and clasped hands.
Jimin watched the class with a sparkle in his eyes. Once it came to a close they all rushed towards him to wish him a congratulations and promises of making Hoseok happy.
Hoseok shook his head at them fondly as he waved bye and lead them out the studio where Jungkook watched them until they were picked up.
"This is a lot of commitment," Jimin said. "I can't believe we just lied to a room of children," he said with a pout.
"You lied to them," Hoseok said, "I said nothing."
"Still lying."
Hoseok sighed before he walked towards his bag and picked up his water bottle.
"You up for some dancing?" the older asked before he took a drink.
"Aren't you exhausted?"
"The kids' routine helps me cool down from the intensity of the older classes," he explained as he ran his fingers through his hair, "Besides, I have a lot of stamina," he added with a wink. Jimin rolled his eyes.
Jimin took off his hoodie and had a plain black shirt on with his black jeans. He put on a cap he took from his bag and smirked.
"What kind of dancing do you do?"
"Mostly contemporary. I learned a bit of hiphop and street though," he said as he stretched his body.
"Contemporary?" Hoseok said excitedly. "Show me!" he said with a smile as he walked over to his speakers and disconnected his phone.
"I'm not amazing," he said awkwardly, "I just-I love doing it." Jimin took the cable from the other and plugged in his own phone. He chose a song and put it on and Hoseok smiled at the familiar melody: a song called 'Butterfly'.
Hoseok sat on the ground and watched excitedly as Jimin stared at himself in the mirror. He laughed a little, embarrassed at being watched so intensely but continued to let his body feel the music.
Hoseok was in awe. His eyes widened as he watched Jimin move. His chest felt a little strange the more he watched Jimin fall into a trance as he danced. The song ended and Hoseok furiously applauded.
"That was amazing, Jimin," Hoseok said with wide eyes. Jimin looked down shyly and scratched the back of his head.
"I'm not that great," he muttered. Hoseok stood up and walked towards him.
"You were amazing," he said sternly. Jimin looked up and met his eyes.
"Your expression is too serious," the younger whined as he covered his face.
"Jimin, I'm serious," Hoseok said and Jimin looked up at him again. "That was amazing. I was captivated the whole time," he added and Jimin flushed.
"Thanks."
"Teach me?" the older asked.
"What?"
"Teach me."
"I can't teach you!"
"Come on, it'll be fun," he said, "I've done a bit of contemporary before but I've always wanted to learn more."
"You're way better than me."
"You haven't even seen me dance."
Jimin narrowed his eyes.
"Not properly," Hoseok whined. "Come on, Jiminie," he said with a pout. Jimin sighed and crossed his arms.
"Fine. But you have to teach me the routine from the first class," he said and Hoseok's eyes lit up.
After an hour of them doing Jimin's routine together, the younger had to leave. Hoseok watched as Jimin walked towards his car and felt a tingle of longing to spend more time together. Jimin thought the same and looked back with a sense of sadness as he waved bye. Hoseok merely waved back along with a smile. Jimin didn't admit that it made him feel a little better.
Hoseok sighed as he walked up the stairs.
"I can't believe you didn't tell me," a voice said and Hoseok jumped. He looked down at the desk and noticed Jungkook sat there with a pout.
"Holy shit, Jungkookie," he said with a hand over his chest. "I thought you left ages ago."
"I wanted to talk to Jimin more but since you guys were taking so long I figured you were doing the nasty in the studio."
"We were dancing!" Hoseok yelled as he continued to walk up the stairs, "And don't bring up the past!"
"You're no fun," Jungkook yelled back.
Hoseok sighed as he walked into his apartment. He hated how the first thing he wanted to do was message Jimin. It was like a warning sign went off in his head but he chose to ignore it in favor of not only helping Jimin out but to get even closer to his financial goal.
He muttered an "it'll be fine" to himself as he readied himself for a shower.
Jimin sighed as he stared out the window. He wanted to spend more time with Hoseok but knew if he missed another one of his parents' events, there'd be hell to pay. He sent him a quick message to see what he was up to and then followed up with a 'Am I playing the role of clingy boyfriend right?'
Once he arrived home, he showered and changed into a suit and before he knew it, he was already at the event. He walked into the venue with a wide smile and started to go through the crowd and greet everyone he knew.
"Jimin?" a familiar voice said. Jimin felt his chest constrict. He turned around to find Seojun, a suit and tie with Ara on his arm. Jimin forced a smile and nodded at them. As far as Jimin knew, Ara was aware of his and Seojun's past relationship the entire time but had no intention of acknowledging the entire situation.
"You're late," another voice said. Jimin turned around to find his parents there. He wanted to run.
"Sorry, I was busy," he said with another forced smile. He greeted them both hello and kissed their cheeks.
"We've barely seen you the last couple weeks. What have you been doing?"
"Is Hoseok keeping you distracted?" Seojun said and Jimin was caught off guard.
"Hoseok?" his mother said curiously while Ara looked at him in question.
"Jimin didn't tell you about his new boyfriend either?" Ara said with a smile. His parents looked at him in question and Jimin felt at a loss for words.
"Why keep something like that a secret?" his mother asked as she stepped forward.
By whatever divine being granted him a break, his phone rang. He had never been more relieved to hear his phone go off in his life. He quickly answered and said he had to take the call before he walked off.
"Hello?"
"Hello," Hoseok's voice said happily.
"Thank God you called."
"Wow, you sound stressed. I think you're nailing clingy boyfriend a bit too well."
"I'm at a dinner party and Seojun is here and he just told my parents about us and-"
"Hey, man, it's fine. Just take a deep breath," Hoseok said and Jimin sighed. "It'll be okay," he said and logically, Jimin was aware that none of this was really going to be okay but the sound of Hosoek's voice calmed him to an extent that he was more concerned over how he felt about the man. "Just smile and wave and maybe have a drink with your pinky raised," Hoseok said and Jimin laughed.
"Are you mocking me?"
"I wouldn't dare, my lord. I am a mere servant whose only wish is to please his-"
"Okay, I get it I get it," he said. Jimin looked up at the party and sighed.
"I wish I was back at the dance studio."
"You okay?"
"Yeah, it's just-it can get pretty draining sometimes."
"Hey, if it helps, you're welcome to dance it out at my studio anytime," Hoseok said and Jimin's heart skipped a beat. "I mean, you are technically partially paying for it."
"Thanks," Jimin said with a smile.
"You feel better?"
"Yes, thank you," Jimin said. He noticed his mother in the crowd with a look of curiosity. "Okay, I have to go. My mom looks like she's ready to interrogate me."
"Whatever you do, don't talk about how amazing I am in bed or-"
"Goodbye Hoseok," Jimin said quickly and Hoseok laughed. Jimin smiled again.
"Talk to you later, boyfriend," he said before he ended the call. Jimin continued to smile as he walked his way back towards his parents.
"I've never seen you smile like that before, Jimin," his father stated and Jimin felt his cheeks heat up. His mind swirled with the thought of 'did Hoseok really do that?'
"Well, we must meet this boyfriend of yours soon if he's making you this happy," his mother said. Jimin forced a smile in response.
The two agreed to have dinner together the next day in order to discuss strategies for the huge party the next evening.
"Why won't you tell me what you're wearing?" Jimin whined as he took another bite of food. Hoseok grinned.
"It's a surprise."
"I showed you mine," he responded with a pout.
"Floral," Hoseok said simply.
"What?"
"It'll be floral," he said and Jimin stared.
"That gives me nothing," he said in frustration.
"It'll be fine, Jiminie," Hoseok said and Jimin had to pause for a moment at the way the other called his name.
"My parents invited you for dinner at theirs next week," Jimin said suddenly and Hoseok froze. "They want to meet you."
"Jimin," Hoseok started with a sigh, "I'm not going to help you lie to your parents and fake being in love for that long."
"I know but, what am I supposed to tell them?"
"Just tell them we got into a huge fight and broke up."
"I guess."
"But we did agree to stay friends," he added with a small smile. Jimin smiled back.
At that moment though, a thought came to Jimin's mind.
"What if I pay you for it?" he asked before he could stop himself. Hoseok dropped his chopsticks. Jimin regretted his words immediately.
"I agreed to do the party, Jimin. Not to end up in some large facade so you can keep up the appearance of not being single. You can't just offer me money and expect me to say yes just because you know I need it," he said.
"I know, I didn't mean-"
"Listen, I'll see you tomorrow," Hoseok cut off. "Here," he said as he placed his card down. "It's on me for last time."
"You don't have to-"
"I know I don't," he said angrily before he stormed off. Jimin watched him leave before he buried his head in his hands.
Hoseok walked out and felt his eyes go teary. He texted Taehyung a simple 'your friend is a dick' before he caught a cab back to his place and sent another one to Jungkook that said 'meet me at the studio, please?'
When he arrived home, he was happy to find Jungkook already stood outside with a questioning look on his face. He suddenly felt grateful the other lived so close by. He paid the cab in cash as he inwardly cursed himself for leaving his card with Jimin.
Meanwhile, Taehyung already had Jimin on the phone.
"What did you do?" were the first words Jimin heard as he picked up.
"Don't worry, I'll fix it," he said quickly.
"You better," Taehyung said but asked again, "Jimin, what did you do?"
"I kind of told him my parents wanted to have dinner," Jimin said and before Taehyung could respond, he added, "But I told him I'd pay him for it when he said no."
"You're an idiot," Taehyung said in frustration.
"I know! I just- I don't know."
"Jimin, why do you want him to meet your parents?" his friend asked with a sigh.
"Well Seojun told them about him and I didn't know what to do."
"But why did you have to set up an actual meeting with your parents? Wasn't the point to make Seojun know you were happy without him?"
"Yeah and then he dragged my parents into this."
"Jiminie, do you get what I'm saying here?!"
"That I'm an idiot."
"Well yes but also, do you get what's happening?"
"What are you talking about, Tae?" he asked in confusion. He heard the other sigh before he spoke again.
"Namjoon-hyung, can you talk to him?" Taehyung said suddenly and Jimin was taken aback when he heard his hyung's voice.
"Jimin," Namjoon said, "Why do you want Hoseok to meet your parents?"
"Because Seojun told them we were dating?" he answered, a little confused.
"But why were you willing to go as far as to pay him to go?"
"Because I like him," he said nonchalantly. Namjoon didn't respond.
"There you go," Taehyung said and Jimin widened his eyes.
"I have to go," Jimin said before he hung up and quickly caught a cab.
Back in Hoseok's studio, Hoseok unlocked the door to the building and they both walked in.
"What's up?" Jungkook said as he lifted himself onto the receptionist desk and swung his legs back and forth. Hoseok looked up at him with glassy eyes. "Hyung," he started worriedly but was cut off when the older pulled him into a hug.
Hoseok was in between the younger's legs with his arms around his waist, face buried on his shoulder.
"What's wrong?" Jungkook said worriedly as he rubbed his hyung's back. "Hyung, what happened?" he asked and Hoseok shook his head. Jungkook sat there worriedly as he pulled the older closer.
Hoseok felt betrayed. He thought he and Jimin were friends. Or even more than that. He thought that something might've been there. Although he'd happily let Jungkook give Jimin a piece of his mind, he was content to just be in the man's arms for comfort. Also, a part of him still wanted to keep the secret under wraps. It irked him how much he still wanted to protect Jimin.
What he didn't realise however was that just outside the building, Jimin had arrived at the studio and had taken a deep breath. He was going to walk in and apologize.
That was the plan.
That is until he reached the door. The door was wide open and Jimin stepped forward and was taken aback at the image in front of him.
"Hey, it's okay," Jungkook said softly as he cupped Hoseok's face. Hoseok stood in between his legs, his hands on the other's arms.
Jimin didn't make his presence known as he backed away from the building and just left.
"Sorry, it's just been a long day," Hoseok said. Jungkook smiled at him and patted him on the back. Jungkok left eventually as he had to head back to work and Hoseok thanked him for the sudden rush to his aid.
"A knight and shining armor," he called him and Jungkook rolled his eyes.
"You're confusing your Busan men," the younger teased and Hoseok laughed. Jungkook noticed the slight off-ness about it but decided to leave it for another time.
That night, both Hoseok and Jimin stared at their phones with the hope to either receive a message or work up the courage to send one themselves.
Jimin was on Taehyung's couch, a blanket up to his waist and his head rested on the arm rest.
"You need to apologise," Taehyung said. "And then tell him why."
"There's no point," Jimin said as he pulled the blanket over his head. The other sighed.
"How are you supposed to be in love tomorrow night if you can't even talk to each other?"
"It's called acting."
"You're not that great of an actor, Park Jimin."
"He's probably busy with Jungkook," he mumbled and Taehyung furrowed his brows.
"I'm sorry what?"
"Nothing," Jimin responded as he tightened his grip on the blanket, as though if he did, Taehyung couldn't pull it away.
Hoseok stared at his phone for the millionth time that night before he decided he would just leave it.
At that moment, of course, Jimin decided to send a message.
Jimin
I'm sorry.
Hoseok widened his eyes.
Jimin
I didn't mean to offend you. I just kept thinking my parents would've really liked you. That's all. I got carried away. I guess I just got used to the idea of calling you my boyfriend. I know it's only been like a week since we've met but I don't know. I like you being there.'Hoseok
It's okay.Jimin
No it's not. I know I shouldn't have have offered you money. I'm not trying to wave it in your face or force you to do anything. I wasn't thinking.Hoseok
Jiminie, it's okay.Hoseok
I overreacted a little. I know you didn't mean any offense.
Jimin
I'll make it up to you for the rest of my life.Hoseok
.........Are you proposing?Jimin
Shut up.Hoseok
:P :P :PHoseok
It's fine, Jimin. Really.Jimin
Are you sure?Hoseok
YesHoseok
Now I have to go to bed. I have a hot date tomorrow night.Jimin
Oh really? With who? Do I know the guy?Hoseok
Just my sugar daddyJimin
HYUNGHoseok
I'm kidding. I'll see you tomorrow okay?Jimin
I'm really sorry, hyung.Hosoek
I know, Jimin.
Hoseok stared at his message and sighed with relief but had no knowledge the other felt the opposite.
Jimin stared at his phone as he bit his lip, suddenly aware of how much he really didn't want the older out of his life.
The next morning held no difference for the man. He woke up already in conflict over how he felt about his hyung.
"What time is Hoseok coming?" Taehyung asked during breakfast.
"4:00," Jimin responded, a little dazed.
"Jimin, are you gonna be okay?" Taehyung asked worriedly as he placed a hand on the other's arm. Jimin looked at him and wanted to say he'd be fine but the words wouldn't come out.
"I don't know," was all he could say and Taehyung bit his lip.
"Are you sure you should-"
"Yes. We had a deal."
Taehyung kept quiet after that. Instead he stood up and gave him a hug in comfort. Just as he pulled away, Namjoon walked out of the room half asleep. He was on the phone but hung up when the other two looked at him.
"What's wrong?" he asked, his eyes half closed.
"Nothing," Taehyung said before he walked over to him and gave him a kiss on the cheek. Namjoon grinned at the action.
Jimin didn't admit that he imagined what it would be like if he and Hoseok did something like that.
Meanwhile, Hoseok woke up with a decision in his head. He was gonna ask Jimin out after the party.
"I like him," he said into the phone.
"What?" Namjoon said sleepily.
"I like Jimin."
"That's great, Hoseok," he responded, as though he just stated the obvious. "Why are you telling me this instead of Taehyung?"
"Because Taehyung won't answer his phone."
"Ouch."
"But seriously, Namjoon, I like him," he said. "I thought about it for a while but this morning I just, I realized he was the first person I wanted to talk to straight away. I just want to keep hanging out with him and I don't know."
"I know what you mean," Namjoon said as he glanced up and noticed Taehyung giving Jimin a hug. "I'll see you tonight, Hoseok," he said and Hoseok said the same before they hung up.
The night before, when Hoseok went to bed, his mind drifted to thoughts of what happened and why he felt so hurt by the fact Jimin wanted him to have dinner with his parents. It wasn't that big of a deal. All he had to do was show up, eat food, smile at Jimin and then he'd get paid. Only, he didn't want to get paid anymore.
Jimin on the other hand decided that he would keep his distance. He would put up a show for everyone else but figured he should let Hoseok be happy with Jungkook. The only thought he had was who was he but some guy he met a week ago who happened to be paying him to go out on a date versus the guy who had been there from the beginning and obviously still cared for. Hoseok deserved happiness. That was Jimin's resolve.
But then he opened the door and he felt it crumble.
Hoseok stood there, a smile on his face, flowers in hand and a takeaway bag on the other. Jimin felt his heart clench.
"Surprise," he said as he held both items out in front of the younger. Jimin blinked once. Twice.
"Hyung," the other responded softly, "You didn't have to."
"I wanted to," he said and they both stared at each other with soft smiles.
"You look beautiful," Hoseok said and Jimin felt his cheeks heat up.

"Thanks."
"Was the jeans and t-shirt the big surprise?" Jimin asked with a grin and Hoseok stuck a tongue out at him.
"Shut up. I'm changing obviously."
"Sorry, I wasn't sure what you would dress like. This is our first big date."
"Just make sure to send the money to my account before midnight," Hoseok teased and they both laughed.
"You know, you can flirt all you want inside the house," Taehyung said from behind. They both quickly looked away as Jimin took the gifts and awkwardly invited him in.
Hoseok watched Jimin smile at the flowers and he felt his stomach flip at the thought he was the cause of such an expression.
"You can go get changed in my room, hyung," Taehyung said as he patted his shoulder. Hoseok nodded and started to walk before the younger spoke again. "You can join him too, Jimin, if you like."
"Tae!" Namjoon and Jimin said simultaneously.
"They are not allowed to have sex in our room!" Namjoon shouted. Hoseok turned a dark shade of red as he rushed into Taehyung's room. The last thing he heard was Jimin's voice yelling out a 'Hyung, no!'
"This isn't even a real date," Jimin said harshly as he heard the door close. "Stop it."
"We're only teasing, Jiminie," Taehyung said.
"You were right, Tae," his friend started, "I can't just be friends with him."
"I knew you guys were meant to be."
"He's already got someone else."
"Wait, what? What are you talking about?"
"He has a boyfriend," Jimin mumbled as he picked up the takeaway bag and opened it. It was muffins from Jimin's favourite bakery. He inwardly wanted to die.
"What the hell are you talking about?" Taehyung said suddenly and he looked angry. "I don't know anything about this."
"Well, I mean, he's not his boyfriend. Yet. But I'm pretty sure the feelings are there."
"Jimin, what are you-"
"Shh!" Jimin said as he heard the door open again. They listened as Hoseok moved between the bathroom and Taehyung's room in silence.
"I'm gonna go check on him," Namjoon said as he walked in the dancer's direction.
The other two didn't respond but resorted to eating the muffins Hoseok provided.
"Hoseok?" Namjoon said as he glanced in the bathroom. Hoseok stood in front of the mirror as he fixed his hair. "Wow," he continued. "You know, if it doesn't work out with Jimin, Taehyung and I are still open to-"
"Joon," Hoseok interrupted with a glare.
"I'm only kidding," Namjoon said with his hands up in defense. "Sort of."
"Thanks, I think," Hoseok said before he took a deep breath. "I'm nervous," he whispered.
"Hoseok, are you-" the other started but was cut off.
"Are you done?" Taehyung yelled and Hoseok responded with a 'be patient!'
"Let's go," Hoseok said to Namjoon who just nodded in response, suddenly at a loss for words about what he wanted to ask him.
Jimin had his eyes closed and Taehyung narrowed his at them.
"You know, you can't go to this party blindfolded. I mean, I'm sure we could work out a system but-"
"I'm afraid," Jimin said worriedly.
"Of what?"
"Of seeing him and falling even harder," he admitted and Taehyung widened his eyes.
"Okay, what do you think?" Hoseok's voice said loudly and they both looked up. Their eyes widened.
"Wow," they chorused.
"That's what I said," Namjoon sad from behind.

Hoseok smiled at them before he looked down shyly.
"I think I just fell for him," Taehyung whispered to Jimin who still had wide eyes.
"Me too," Namjoon said and Jimin pressed his lips together.
"You look beautiful," Jimin repeated the other's words to him. Hoseok smiled in response.
Jimin was doomed.
The ride to the venue was filled with laughter and smiles. The four ordered a car service and all the while, the only thought in Jimin's head was: I'm happy. He didn't even realise how long it'd been since he'd laughed that hard or felt that excited about going out.The ride went by far too quickly in Jimin's opinion and before they knew it, they were at the entrance of the venue, in front of large glass doors that had the name of the building written across it.
"You ready?" Hoseok whispered and Jimin looked at him and nodded. Hoseok held out his hand and Jimin didn't hesitate to take it. They interlaced their fingers and walked through, Taehyung and Namjoon just behind them.
The venue was large, a bar at the far end and the room was filled with people, some Hoseok even recognised as celebrities.
"Who is this guy?" Hoseok whispered as he looked around in awe. Jimin had stopped a couple times to greet a few people and introduced Hoseok whilst their hands were entwined. "Everyone's looking at us," Hoseok said shyly as he squeezed Jimin's hand and looked down.
"I should've warned you," Jimin said as he forced a smile at people. "My dad is pretty well known but I still don't get why anyone would want to pay attention to me."
"So I'm dating a celebrity?" Hoseok asked and Jimin sent him an amused look before he winked. They both laughed.
"You two are really good actors," Taehyung whispered to Jimin and Jimin elbowed him in response. Before anyone else could speak, everyone's attention seemed to turn to the higher level.
They all looked up and there stood Seojun in a suit, a wide smile on his face and a drink in hand. Ara appeared next to him and he smiled as he took her hand. Hoseok noticed Jimin tense.
"Thank you so much for coming to celebrate my birthday," Seojun said as he raised his glass, "I'm honoured to have so many people I care about in this room," he added as he shifted his eyes around the area and somehow, found Jimin. "I truly care for all of you and only wish for your happiness," he said and Jimin felt uncomfortable.
"We also have an announcement to make," Ara said excitedly. The man smiled at her and she raised her hand. A ring.
"Jimin," Hoseok said softly as he felt the other's hand loosen his grip. Hoseok held onto him tighter. The cheers echoed around the room and people were raising their glass. They all watched as Seojun gave her a kiss before he told everyone to make themselves at home and enjoy the party.
"Jiminie," Taehyung started as he placed a hand on the other's shoulder. Jimin looked to the ground.
"That was my ring," he whispered.
"Jimin," Namjoon started but Jimin cut him off.
"He bought that for me as a promise ring. He always told me to wear it everywhere."
"Jimin!" Seojun's voice said loudly and they all looked up at the man walk down the stairs. "So glad you could make it," he said with a wide smile. Jimin tightened his grip on Hoseok.
"Thank you for inviting us," he said with a smile. Everyone looked between the two, unsure of what to say.
"Are you enjoying yourself, Hoseok?" he asked and Hoseok smiled back.
"Yes."
"You're getting married," Jimin stated and Seojun looked at him with a shy smile.
"Yeah, didn't think I was the type."
"I did," he whispered and Seojun shifted his eyes away.
"Yeah well, you mustn't know me that well then," he said and Hoseok took a step forward.
"Well, if you don't mind, Jimin and I were gonna go grab some drinks at the bar. We'll come find you later though," he said with a smile that could melt the snowy mountains. The other looked slightly taken aback at the expression but nodded in response.
"How are you, Taehyung?" he said instead and Hoseok nodded at Namjoon, as though a reassurance that he would look after the other.
"I'm great," Taehyung responded excitedly though his mind was only filled with worry for Jimin. Namjoon shared the sentiment.
Jimin let Hoseok drag him towards the bar and they ordered a couple drinks. Jimin finished his as soon as the bartended put it down. Hoseok stared at him worriedly.
"Let's check out outside," he said as Jimin ordered another drink.
"Why?"
"Let's just go," the other said and Jimin stared at him and sighed.
They walked out onto an empty field of grass, a few bar tables spread out but otherwise, no one there.
"It's freezing," Jimin said as he released the other's hand and hugged himself.
"It's refreshing," Hoseok retorted and the other glared. "Jimin," he started, "Are you okay?"
Jimin pressed his lips together.
"Let's go back inside," he said quietly but Hoseok placed a hand on the other's shoulder and faced him.
"Are you okay?" he asked him again.
"Am I okay?" Jimin said as though he were slightly offended, "I just watched the man I was in love with announce that he's engaged to the woman he cheated on me with using the one ring he told me I had to wear everywhere, no matter where I was so that I knew that at the end of the day, I'd always come back home to him." Jimin shivered slightly at the cold. "No. I'm not okay."
"Jimin," Hoseok started before he pulled him into a tight hug. "It's gonna be okay, okay?"
"When?" he mumbled as he pressed his forehead against Hoseok's chest.
"Right now," Hoseok stated and Jimin looked up in question. "We're gonna drink like we just turned 19 and then dance like no one's watching." Jimin looked skeptical. "Jimin, do you still have feelings for the guy?" he asked and the younger looked surprised at the question.
"No," he said though his face was a mix of confusion and sadness, "I mean, I did. A lot. But I think now I'm just sad that it happened."
"Jimin, I promise you'll feel better, okay?" Hoseok said with a grin. "That asshole broke your heart but if he's happy and moving on and you're still stuck here, he wins. Don't give him that satisfaction, Jiminie. You're better than that. You deserve better than that." Jimin looked at him in awe and Hoseok released him. "Now, let's go waste his money and show off our incredibly good looks and dance skills," he added with a pose. Jimin laughed and Hoseok's heart swelled.
The pair walked in with wide smiles on their faces.
Taehyung walked towards them in worry but was surprised to find a smile across Jimin's face.
"Did you two do adult stuff outside?" Taehyung asked excitedly. Namjoon rolled his eyes while the other two turned red.
"And what if we did?" Jimin said and Taehyung raised an eyebrow. "Shut up."
"Shots?" Hoseok asked the two and the other three looked at each other excitedly before they chorused out a 'yes!'
The four moved to the bar and started to drink. It took about two hours before Taehyung invaded the dance floor.
"Please," he mumbled as he wrapped himself around Namjoon's arm. Namjoon sighed and told the other two to make sure to rescue them if he ended up injuring someone on the dance floor.
"Maybe we shouldn't have given them that extra shot," Jimin said to Hoseok. "And how are you still sober? You said you were a lightweight."
"I've been pacing myself," he said with a grin and then the music changed. The pair looked at each other and smiled before they moved onto the dance floor.
The crowd was in a circle while random people of the audience stepped in to dance. Jimin smirked before he pushed Hoseok in.
"Jimin-"
"Just dance," Jimin shouted excitedly and Hoseok rolled his eyes before he complied. The crowd cheered once he began and Jimin kept throwing out cheesy cheers of 'that's my boyfriend' or 'you go, honey' but then suddenly, everyone had their phones out and Jimin stared with wide eyes.
He knew Hoseok was good but this was just, it was art. Everyone watched as Hoseok hit every beat and moved with precision. The song changed but everyone could only stare and cheer excitedly.
Jimin was hooked.
He watched the way Hoseok's body moved and it felt like everything went in slow motion. Whether it was the alcohol or his eye for dancing, he couldn't tell. He just knew the other was amazing.
"Jimin!" Hoseok called suddenly as he held his hand out. Jimin widened his eyes at the gesture and was frozen on the spot. "Sweetie," Hoseok teased, "Come on," he added and then before Jimin knew it, Taehyung and Namjoon had appeared and practically pushed him onto the dance floor, straight into Hoseok's arms.
Jimin had never danced so hard in his life. He noticed the surprised looks on others' faces as he danced to the song. He always hid his love for dance and kept it as a sort of secret. But then he looked at Hoseok and the smile he had on his face and it made Jimin just let go.
"Everyone's staring," Hoseok said and Jimin grinned at him. "Let's give them a show hey?"
"Okay, everyone, we're gonna take it slow," the DJ said and a familiar tune played.
"This is one of our birthday celebrant's favorite songs, 'Butterfly'."
"Oh my God," Hoseok said, "We have to do this, Jiminie," he added and Jimin would've normally felt embarrassed and just hid away but at that moment, with Hoseok holding his hand and looking at him that way, how could he have not danced?
So he did.
It felt surreal. The crowd watching them, him and Hoseok dancing in sync as if they were the same person. It felt so right.
And then he opened his eyes and noticed Seojun stood in front of them, a hurt look on his face. Jimin almost lost his footing but managed to pull through in the end. Exclamations of amazement and cheers echoed in the venue and the pair smiled at everyone and thanked them.
As people approached them with compliments, someone suddenly took Jimin's hand. He looked up to find Seoujun, a serious look in his eye.
"We need to talk," was all he said before he turned around, placed a hand on the other's wrist and tugged him away.
Hoseok was mid conversation with someone when he noticed Jimin move further away. He looked up and was a little irked at the man who had him in his grip. He excused himself from his conversation and moved to follow after them.
"What are you doing?" Jimin asked and Seoujun took them outside. Before Jimin spoke again, the man tried to pull Jimin into a kiss. Jimin pushed him away and wiped his mouth on his sleeve.
"What the hell?"
"Why did you do that?" the other man said simply as he released the younger.
"What?"
"You know what."
"I was just dancing," Jimin said in irritation. "Am I not allowed to dance anymore?"
"That's not what I meant."
"I can dance with whoever I want to, hyung," he said angrily. The door behind them opened and Hoseok appeared.
"Is everything alright?" he said awkwardly as he looked between the two.
"Not to that song," Seoujun said as he ignored Hoseok's presence completely.
"That song has nothing to do with you."
"I told you that that was the song that reminded me of you."
"And you gave Ara that ring."
"What else was I supposed to give her?"
"Not a secondhand ring that symbolised my faithfulness to you while you were off cheating with that very person."
"You don't understand."
"No I don't!" Jimin yelled. Hoseok took a step forward and reached out but Jimin held his hand up to stop him. "I gave my entire life to you and you threw it away and made me believe you still loved me!"
"I do still love you!" he yelled out and Jimin and Hoseok were stunned. "You don't think I know how much I fucked up?! I did only go out with her to please my parents and to give me a good image but it felt nice just having someone next to me that I could kiss in front of everyone or hold hands with or even dance!"
"We could have done all those things! I stuck by you through everything. I was willing to stick by you for the rest of our lives."
Silence filled the area and Seojun just stared at him in slight surprise before he sighed.
"You always surprise me, Park Jimin," he said before he took a step forward.
"I suggest you go back to your fiance," Jimin responded as he took a step back. He reached out his hand and took Hoseok's in his. "I've moved on, Seojun."
"I don't believe that," he said as he took another step forward. Hoseok furrowed his brows.
"Are you an idiot?" he said loudly and Jimin was surprised at the anger in the other's voice. "You were an asshole. He doesn't love you anymore. You have a fiance now."
"Stay out of this. It has nothing to do with you."
"I'm the one in love with Jimin now so yes, it does," he said as he pulled Jimin behind and glared. Jimin and Hoseok's heart skipped a beat at the declaration.
"Hoseok," Jimin started as he placed a hand on his shoulder but was cut off when the door opened.
"There you are!" a loud voice said. They all continued to stare at each other as Taehyung walked up to them. "What's happening here?"
"Nothing," Seojun said, "I'm heading back in," he added before he walked away. Jimin sighed as he looked back and watched him leave.
"Are you okay?" Taehyung asked and Jimin looked at him, a little lost.
"I think so?" he said and Hoseok looked down.
"I'll catch you later okay Jimin?" Hoseok said, "I'll just be in there," he added before he let go of Jimin's hand and walked in.
"Do you think Hoseok's going to start a fight with Seojun?" Taehyung said and Jimin glared at him before they both followed after him. As they walked in, Hoseok and Seoujun were stood in front of each other with scowls on their faces. Jimin was about to speak but Taehyung covered his mouth and pulled him to the side.
"What is your problem?" Hoseok said.
"You're not good for him."
"Excuse me?"
"You're not good for him."
"What gives you the right to say that?"
"The guy he's been in love with for years," he said angrily.
"And I'm the guy who he's in love with now."
Jimin's heart skipped another beat.
"You don't know what's best for him."
"And you do?"
"You just stay away from him."
"So what? You can cheat on your fiance and be with Jimin?"
"It's way more complicated than that."
"It really isn't. You're just a dick," Hoseok said and Seojun grabbed him by the collar. "Go ahead. Hit me. That'll prove me wrong."
"I don't know why you're fooling yourself," Seojun said angrily, "Jimin was pretty eager kissing me back before you interrupted." Jimin wanted to punch the guy.
"What?"
"Go ahead. Ask him."
"I don't believe you," Hoseok said and Jimin brought himself into view.
"You need to leave, Seojun," he said angrily. Seojun looked ready to defend himself when Namjoon appeared next to them.
"Everything okay?" Namjoon said as he looked around the hallway. Seojun shoved Hoseok away and scoffed before he stormed off.
"Let's go back on the dance floor," Taehyung said before he walked past the other two and took Namjoon's arm. "There's this really cute guy I met, a year younger than me. Let's see if he's interested in-"
"Tae!" Namjoon said as they walked away.
Hoseok leaned against the wall and sighed.
"Would you feel better if I gave you a raise?" Jimin said and Hoseok sent him a pointed look. "I'm trying to lighten the mood."
"Right."
"I'm sorry," Jimin said, "I didn't mean to drag you into this. I just wanted him to know how much better life is without him."
"Jimin," Hoseok said suddenly, "Was that all it was for you? Just a way to get back at the guy?"
"I mean, yeah at first," Jimin admitted before he leaned against the wall next to him. "But then it changed when I got to know you more," he added and they both met each other's gaze.
"I just-" Hoseok started but then a loud cheer came from the dance floor and they looked up to see everyone gathered to look at something. "Let's go," Hoseok said instead and held out his hand. They walked in to find everyone beginning to sing the Happy Brithday song to Seojun, who stood in front of a large three tiered cake and Ara clinging onto his arm.
They both watched as he blew the candles out and he smiled at Ara before he gave her a kiss. The crowd dispersed again and Hoseok and him simply glanced around the room.
"Jimin?" Hoseok said and Jimin shifted his gaze to the other.
"Wha-" he started but was cut off when Hoseok placed his hands on either side of Jimin's face and leaned down. "Wait," the younger said as he moved back. Hoseok's eyes flashed a look of hurt. "Not like this."
"Oh. Sorry," Hoseok said as he released him.
"Hoseok, I-"
"I just figured you'd want to put on a show or something," Hoseok said with a forced smile. "But it's okay."
"No wait Hoseok-"
"Let's just go home yeah? I'm pretty tired out from all that dancing. I'll just go get Taehyung and Namjoon," he said before he walked away. Jimin was left a little taken aback but followed after him.
Namjoon and Taehyung talked about the party as they left the venue, Hoseok and Jimin quiet behind them.
"I'm sorry," Hoseok said, "I crossed the line. It's just-I didn't mean to throw that on you suddenly."
"No, it's fine, I was just-"
"Jimin, it's okay. If you don't want to kiss me, you don't have-"
"I do want to kiss you!" he yelled and then everything went quiet. A few strangers on the street stared in their direction, Taehyung and Namjoon looked back in intrigue while Hoseok widened his eyes. "Oh God," Jimin said as he covered his mouth and looked down. "Look what you made me do," he whispered harshly.
"I mean, you didn't have to yell it out," Hoseok said shyly as their faces turned red.
"You wouldn't let me speak."
"You didn't have to explain yourself to me if you didn't want to."
"I just didn't want our first kiss to be something that wasn't real."
Then it went quiet.
"Well, anyway," Namjoon started awkwardly, "The car's here so let's just, you know, go," he said as he awkwardly maneuvered the doors open. The driver ended up doing it for him.
The car ride was silent and the first place they were headed to was Hoseok's studio. They stopped in front and were surprised to see the lights on.
"Don't worry," Hoseok said with a sigh. "That's probably just Jungkook waiting up for me."
"Oh," Jimin said a little dejectedly. Taehyung raised an eyebrow and looked between the two.
"Jimin, walk him to the door," he said as he gestured for him to go. Jimin sent him a confused look but complied when Taehyung kicked his shin. Hoseok was already out the car by that stage. Hoseok was surprised to see Jimin walk next to him and they both walked to the entrance in an awkward silence.
"Thank-"
"I'll-"
"Sorry," they both said and let out an awkward laugh.
"I'll see you around?" Hoseok asked.
"Yes. Definitely," Jimin responded. Hoseok opened the door and walked in but just as Jimin turned around to leave, Hoseok bit his lip and rushed back out.
"Jimin!" he said loudly and the other turned around. "I want to kiss you too," he admitted as he avoided eye contact. "For real."
"Really?" he asked, his cheeks red.
"Yeah," Hoseok said as he scratched the back of his head, "I might have to charge you extra though," he added and Jimin nearly lost his balance. "I'm kidding!"
"You didn't have to look so serious when you said it!"
"But I like teasing you," he said in response before he laughed. Music to Jimin's ears.
"Go out with me," Jimin said suddenly and Hoseok looked taken aback. "I know tonight wasn't the greatest and neither was our first date but I really really want to date you."
"Jimin-"
"I know it's complicated, especially with me and Seojun and you and Jungkook and-"
"Wait, me and Jungkook? What are you-"
"Listen," Jimin interrupted as he took a step forward. "I know it's complicated and I know I just got out of a relationship but I really really really like you and I just want to be with you and dance with you and this isn't some kind of rebound thing okay? I think you're amazing and wonderful and you make me laugh so much and I just-"
Hoseok rushed forward and kissed him. Jimin gasped but ultimately started to kiss back. They both wrapped their arms around the other before they parted their lips for a breath. And then kissed again. and again. and again.
"Jungkook is just a friend, I told you" kiss "and I really" kiss "really" kiss "really" kiss "like you too."
"Really?" Jimin asked with a smirk before another kiss.
"Okay, this is getting gross," a voice said and they both turned around to find Jungkook stood there with his arms crossed.
"Shut up," Hoseok said, "And don't watch me kiss my boyfriend."
"Your boyfriend?" Jimin asked quietly and Hoseok met his gaze.
"Well, I mean, that's what you are now isn't it?" he responded shyly, "And I'm yours too."
"Yeah," Jimin said happily. More kisses.
"Okay, I'm out," Jungkook said as he closed the door.
"Yah!" Hoseok shouted but didn't let go of Jimin.
"We're going too," Taehyung said, "I mean I know I asked for this but I draw a line at exhibition."
"Tae!" they both yelled and the other shrugged.
"You are still paying me right?" Hoseok asked suddenly and Jimin sent him a pointed look. "I mean I can send you the bank details now and-"
"It depends."
"On what?"
"Do I still get to kiss you?" Jimin asked with a grin.
"I'll think about it," he said with a wide smile before they both leaned forward yet again.
End.
