Work Text:

He remembered everything…

His regrets were far too great, but the consequences of his actions were unforgiving. For eternity, he will suffer in the vast nothingness. Kars remembered everything, from birth to his immobile state, his ambition to feel daylight’s touch without pain, the genocide he caused to his own race, and every tiny details in his mind before there's nothing left to remember of.

It was now that he realized he wanted his life to cease existing, knowing that in the end there was never truly a purpose for anyone. They live, they die, and it was that simple. How foolish of him to think highly of immortality if it was truly the most petrifying thing anyone could imagine, he was blinded by ambition to know that. It was a relief for him that his companions did not have to suffer his cruel fate, but the strong envy inside him silently lingers. But all he can do is think right now.

He remembered Wamuu’s interests in human mythologies when he was young, he thought lowly about that up until now. But he remembers the story of Icarus. The fact that Wamuu is inspired because of Icarus' bravery of attempting to do such thing. He remember the specific words that he said that night: “Icarus challenged the sun. Even though he lost, he managed to do something that even we are incapable of doing.”

He finally realized what he meant, but there's no going back anymore. He wanted this but the outcome was not in his expectations. Blaming Joseph for his defeat is futile, it won't help him. There was so many emotions going on inside his mind, he wanted to scream for help, for forgiveness, he'll repent for all the things he had done if it meant feeling something else other than the desolate void of isolation, but there's absolutely nothing he can do other than to regret.

The cold embrace of space was comforting, the silence was uncanny yet peaceful. He'll be there forever, stuck as a mineralized half-avian half-god, no doubt.

The Icarus remembered everything, and eventually he stops

...and forgets everything, hoping one day he'll join them soon.
