Chapter 1: How It All Began

Chapter Text

You tossed and turned in your bed as you wrestled with the bizarre dream you were having. It was you and Bakugou happily eating lunch at some bistro which was unusually calm for such a fiery blonde. At first you would have enjoyed the dream, being there happily with someone you believed to be the love of your life. But you quickly came to realize how dead wrong you were to have such happy feelings. Every time you went to look at Bakugou, be it to talk to him or listen to him speak, his eyes were always on another girl. Time and time again a faceless girl with the perfect figure would stroll past the table you sat at with Bakugou's eyes glued to every piece of her. You were just about to feel the emotions spill over onto your face but you awoke suddenly from your physical self crying. You rubbed your eyes with the back of your hand as you looked over towards the nightstand to see what time it was. A glowing 2:36am stared back at your distraught figure as you huffed out a sound of displeasure. Why did your mind torment you like that? It had been a week since you and Bakugou had broken up so why were you just now about to ball your eyes out in the middle of the night? A new feeling washed over you and a lump in your throat caught any sound you could have made. You rushed over to the bathroom tripping over articles of clothing.

"Wait those weren't your clothes" you thought, but you quickly pushed that concern out of your head as you bolt for the toilet with your hand pressed against your mouth. A few minutes pass as you puke out whatever you had consumed earlier that day. Pieces of your evening kept coming back to you as you sat on the cold tile floor. A glimpse of you and your friends meeting up at a bar appears through your head. That was right, Ochako was determined to take you out for some necessary post-breakup drinking. But the night got blurrier as you sat contemplating. You remember... dancing? With the possible help of a couple of shots thrown at you from Ochako. You also meet a guy while you were there but can't remember much or anything at all about him. All you remember is Ochako trying to stop you from leaving and coming back to the dorms with the guy.

You got up from where you were sat and flushed the toilet. You gripped the edges of the sink looking at yourself through the mirror. With a splash of cold water and some very necessary toothbrush hygiene action your thoughts became a bit clearer. As soon as you had realized who it was you had brought home you could almost punch and screaming at the mirror. How could you be as dumb as to let your ex back in, especially someone like Bakugou? You slid down the wall of the bathroom contemplating all the wrong moves you made this week with Bakugou and how it all got started.

{ FLASHBACK }

Forty-five minutes. Forty-five fucking minutes Bakugou was late to your date. It wasn't unusual for him to be a minute or two behind. Bakugou was always caught up in studying or training that the time would slip by him. But you loved that about him, he was so dedicated to everything he had a passion for. Which made a small pain crawl through your stomach as the time click on and on. Did he completely forget? Or was he still upset? You knew things weren't the best between the two of you. Both of you got into more fights that you were really wanting to admit but you were both still deeply in love.... right? You decided that since texts weren't getting through to him you would just call him. You stood up from the dining table where your prepared meal had already begun to go cold. You type his name into your phone and wait for him to pick up.

"Hey- hey what's up?" Bakugou yells through the phone. You hear noise in the background like a stereo and people chatting.

"Hey babe, where are you? I thought we had dinner plans?" you say half-laughing. Surely, he was with Kirishima who is always blasting his stereo.

"Oh, shit yeah, hey let me-" Bakugou begins to respond but a sultry woman's voice cuts him off with a cute giggle.

"Honey who are you talking to? I thought we were going to have fun?" the woman says with her voice dripping like honey at the last part. It's as if a strike of lightning had gone through your whole body stunning you. A gasp slips through your lips as you already feel a tear threatening to fall from your (e/c) eyes.

"Fuck! God damn it, hold on (y/n) I can explain!" Bakugou hurriedly begins to explain as more curses spew out of his mouth. You hear the woman say something unintelligible in the background with the music beginning to dim. You find your voice again and grip your other hand into a fist.

"Fuck you Bakugou. I know this wasn't going the best but fuck you. I was so stupid-" you begin as a sob racks through your body. Bakugou tries to soothe you but you quickly end the call with a "don't ever talk to me again" added at the end.

You throw your phone onto the table as you let out a scream of pain. How could he? Why would he? Question after question races through your mind as you pace through the dining room. Anger boils within you as you begin to feel hatred seep through every bone in your body.

"Fuck you Bakugou!" you scream as a plate crashed towards the wall. You fall to sit on your floor looking up at the ceiling with tears streaming down your face. "fuck you..." you whimper.

The rest of the weekend you sat desolate in your room eating junk food and ignoring your phone. You just wanted to forget everything that had happened that night and sit silent with the tv on. But sadly, Monday had rolled forward and you were forced to get up and leave the safety of your bed. That morning you had tried to put yourself together as to not look as much like a mess but really there was no kidding anyone. Your eyes were puffy and your nose was beet red from the amount of tissues you had used. But with a bit of bravery in your step you trotted out of your dorm room and towards class, hoping you wouldn't have to interact with him at all.

As you walked into the classroom you felt several pairs of eyes land on you, one of them being Bakugou. You held your head high and took your usual seat behind Midoriya. Ochako looked over at you with a face of pity, she was the only one who knew since you couldn't escape her million texts and calls. You felt the tension grow between you and Bakugou but decided to ignore any contact he even thought of having with you. Time seemed to be against you as every class felt like a million years and you happened to have every single one with him. As the hours went by you noticed the tension thickening between the two of you and saw him become more irritated with being ignored. Two sides of you grappled between going to console him and swear everything is okay but another wanted to run as fast as your feet could possibly take you. If it weren't for the supportive help of Midoriya, Tenya, and Ochako you weren't sure the day would have gone as smoothly as it did.

Though it didn't stay that way for long. The next day you could already feel the gnawing emptiness the loss of love Bakugou once gave you eating you alive. You had become so comfortable in the relationship you couldn't even remember how you once survived without a partner by your side. By the afternoon you couldn't help stealing a glance or two at Bakugou as you sat behind him. It felt as if a string had wrapped around your hand enticing you to draw closer. Bakugou turned and noticed your eyes on him but you quickly looked down to continue to ignore him. The worst had come after classes that night as you sat stuck to your phone. You must have hovered over his number a thousand times waiting for the courage to click or a sign from someone or something. What were you going to say? Better yet, why give him the time of day? You were about to put your thoughts to bed and save the stress for the next day but fate had other plans. Suddenly Bakugou's caller id brightened your screen with a backdrop of you on your past anniversary. You made a mental note to delete the picture later and sat staring at your screen. A few seconds passed and the ringing was about to stop as your hand clicked on the answer button. What was the harm in hearing his voice over the phone one last time?
