Work Text:
When would Park Jimin stop being such a people pleaser?
It was always that way, he was always there for every person he crossed ways with, keeping an open ear for all their problems - be it small or huge.
He was there to listen and to mend, to help cleaning the viscous cuts in people's hearts, caused by other humans that were poisonous.
Why was he always there to take their burdens? He didn't know.
But he knew they needed someone and he was the one to throw himself into their life's on cost of his own.
Foolish Park Jimin wanted to make the world a better place. Treat his friends good, because one day he might need help.
Oh yes, he needed it. He needed to be saved. But as cruel as the world and it's creatures were, there was no one to repay him all the time he was occupied with listening and mending.
In the end he was alone. No friends, who helped him through tough times. It was always himself, on his own.
There were times he was lonely, feeling nothing. Absolutely no remorse of cutting off these toxic friendships.
But then at night, he would lie in his bed, trying to sleep, when these ugly thoughts crept up. Thoughts about loneliness. Still, no remorse. Just the feeling of being alone.
At these times, with hot tears rolling down his cheeks and the cold air of the night instantly wrapping them into an almost icy blanket, he felt the need to look at the moon.
It made him calm down no matter what. The brightness in that almost merciless darkness was giving him strength.
He thought to himself, if there only was a person as lonely as him, they would be able to mend their hearts together.
What a romantic and absurd thought.
"4 am."
Like thorns, the light of his phone screen pierced into his tired eyes. A soft breath escaped his plump shivering lips, leaving a tiny cloud of mist in the air.
Another night of loneliness. Another night without sleep.
Another path to insanity.
As he closed his eyes in need of peace, Jimin heard faint footsteps of someone walking on the pebble-filled path of the park he was planning to leave. It was 4 o' clock already.
Instead of calming down in silence, Jimin kept wondering who made the stones crunch under their feet.
At 4am in the morning. In this ungodly hour.
It took him a while to give in to his curiosity and turn around. Until then, the steps became much clearer, thus the stranger crept even closer.
As his eyes made out the figure of a boy, not much older than himself, he couldn't help but look at him a little longer.
He was beautiful, his strong features were painted in a silver light thanks to the full moon. Slightly hazy through the dark, but it made the stranger even more mysterious and somehow more desirable.
To Jimin's surprise the young man stopped in his movements, returning his gaze.
His heart stopped for a good second.
Jimin should have turned away due to common sense, but it was 4 o'clock, the moon was making him feel romantic and he didn't have a good sleep in a long time.
"Hello", he greeted instead, lightly bowing with his head and making a few strands of his grey hair fall into his eyes.
It felt like half a lifetime until an answer came, but Jimin felt something weird tingle in his stomach when he heard a soft, yet husky voice reply with a short "Hello" as well.
"Do you want to sit down?"
This question left his lips before he could even think twice about it.
The small silence that settled down, underlined the coldness that wrapped itself around their bodies, leaving Jimin's skin with needle-like goosebumps.
"Sure."
He didn't know he was that desperate to hear that single word, but as it left the strangers lips, a refreshing wave of pleasure washed over him.
With careful steps, the boy came near him and took a seat right next to him.
"I'm Kim Taehyung", the blonde said, his eyes crinkling into beautiful half moons, his lips turning into a dazzling smile. The moonlight made a few strands glow like gold, his skin looked flawless, almost like it was porcelain.
"I am Park Jimin."
They looked at each other for a while until Taehyung leant back in his seat, looking up to the pretty planet illuminating the deep dark sky. Kim Taehyung's eyes closed, lashes softly caressing his cheeks.
A view that could be pictured in a book about magical creatures.
"It is beautiful tonight, isn't it? She is very pretty."
Jimin's loss of words made him giggle.
"The moon. The moon is my muse, my pretty lady."
It took him a few seconds to understand the boy's unusual choice of words, but when he got them, Jimin couldn't hide a smile. What an intriguing person, he thought.
"Yes, the moon is very pretty. I like her company at times like this. She is very calming", he answered all amused, almost laughing at himself for playing along with Kim Taehyung.
The young man didn't look like there was something out of the ordinary with Jimin's words though.
"She is the best company you can have at 4 am", the blonde nodded enthusiastically, his short golden hair bobbing with the innocent, near to childish action.
Jimin didn't know him, only met him a few minutes ago, but he could already tell that this person carried a little child in his mind, a child with not only golden hair, but also a warm and golden heart.
A tender smile made its way onto Jimin's lips as he took a glimpse at the shining lady sitting above in the darkness with the stars sleeping in her lap.
"Whenever I feel lonely, I sit outside and tell her my worries. A patient lady, with a caring heart", Kim Taehyung continued with his gaze focused on the sky and eyes mapping out the stars, probably searching for the constellations.
Jimin's heart suddenly felt bizarre - almost like liquid – yes, watery - when it sent waves of peace flooding away the feeling of loneliness looming over him.
"Did you come to visit her as well?", Taehyung asked and flashed him another boxy smile that was a pleasant sight for sure.
Jimin felt genuinely happy as he mouthed a short yes.
They sat in comfortable silence for a while. Taking in the the noises of the night, the fresh air and the sleeping nature highlighted by rays of moonlight.
It felt safe to talk to Taehyung, Jimin acknowledged. So he just freed his mind of any feelings of restraint and began to speak in a hushed tone.
"I feel lonely lately. Whenever I try to sleep, the same old memories keep on invading my mind. Instead of worrying in the darkness, I rather like to come here and sit in the light of the moon. It calms my nerves."
Just as careful as Jimin spoke, Taehyung's eyes softened as cautiously as his words left his lips.. It didn't take Jimin two seconds to figure out that the blonde had a lot of empathy with him and that his story seemingly matched his own. Taehyung nodded along in understanding.
Another silence set in, this time a little longer, until the pretty stranger threw in a rather surprising question.
"What color does the moon have for you, Jimin?"
For a moment, he couldn't answer, his facial expression was showing his inner confusion.
Taehyung was chuckling in amusement before he went on himself.
"For a long time i thought my muse had golden hair and a blinding smile - but now, I know that it's silver hair. The smile is still blinding tough."
Jimin felt his cheeks heating up. For the first time he understood Kim Taehyung's words very clearly.
His answer was nothing but a stammer in a soft tone.
"For a long time i thought the moon projected a cool toned silver light. But today, at 4' o clock I learned that it actually was a golden color, radiating nothing but warmth and joy."
A big smile plastered onto Taehyung's lips.
As courageous as Jimin felt a few seconds ago, he felt so nervous that his mind screamed at him to disappear.
"I- I should head home now. It was nice that I got to know you, Kim Taehyung."
He stood up abruptly, leaving the other in a mild confusion.
Before the blonde could react properly, Jimin already felt his small feet crushing the pebbles under his running figure.
"When do I meet you again?", he heard Kim Taehyung shouting behind him.
Unconsciously his footsteps slowed down as he threw a gaze over his shoulder to take in the young man's beauty for the last time that day.
"At 4' o clock. Tomorrow. Sitting by this bench, looking at the moon", Jimin answered loud enough for Taehyung to hear.
Because when he turned around again, ready to run off, the last thing he heard was the joyous laugh of the moon child he just met today.
At that night, Jimin won the seemingly endless battle against loneliness, finally sleeping in peace with the last bits of moonlight wrapping his resting body in a tender blanket.
