Chapter Text
Moritaka woke up very excited. Today, he was going to the beach with his friends! Moritaka got out of bed, brushed his fur, and put on his swimsuit before heading out with his friends to the coast. Moritaka put on the best swimsuit for the occasion, his swimming uniform from the school! It featured a blue swim cap with his last name on it, and tight blue trunks, perfect for someone swimming for a school or swim team. He also had a kickboard with him, so he was extra prepared to have lots of fun in the waves.
When Moritaka and his friends from school arrived, he exclaimed, “The beach!” and took a wide stride onto the warm sand. Moritaka’s tail was already wagging as he looked at all the people on the shore, but he turned around to face his friends and discuss what their plans were for the rest of the day. Everyone was going to watch the summer fireworks together tonight, but until then everyone could do basically whatever they wanted. Moritaka didn’t have any specific plans, but before he knew it, he was all alone. The protagonist went to hang out with Gunzou and his friends, which he had met on Valentine’s Day, Kengo went to talk to some guys he met at the Berserkers guild, with Shirou following to keep an eye on him, and Ryouta immediately went with Chouji to an outdoor restaurant to try some tasty tropical lunch. In the end, Moritaka was left exactly where he started, at the far end of the beach, looking over everyone having a good time.
“What to do…” Moritaka thought about what he could do for the time being, until any of his friends were done with what they were currently doing.
“Well, I guess the best thing for me to do would be to train right?” Moritaka thought, “After all, my sword gathers power from the water… even though I couldn’t bring it with me today.”
At that, Moritaka walked towards the shore, planning to do some special training in the water. Although Moritaka for some reason felt a small sense of gloominess in his heart. Moritaka was excited to spend time with his friends, but here he was already doing what he does with 90% of his free time, samurai training. Moritaka tried to strike down that thought though, he knew that the journey to becoming a samurai was a long and tough one, and he was ready to overcome any challenges. Moritaka couldn’t repress his raw feelings though, he was lonely. What was the purpose of being a samurai if you didn’t have anyone to protect? Moritaka was very pleased to live in Tokyo and go to school with nice people, but he missed his family from his home world, even if they would be glad to hear he is safe and has so many opportunities in Japan.
Moritaka got to the edge of the coast and stopped. He looked around, wondering if anyone near him would give him weird looks if he started training. Everyone was seeming to have fun with their friends and family, except for him. Moritaka looked over and saw another beastman standing by himself and staring into the water. He seemed to be a canine like him, and had golden yellow fur. He looked about the same age as Moritaka, and was chubby, but then again so was Moritaka, even though Moritaka had a lot of muscle too. He was very fluffy in general, especially around his chest. His fluffy fur was dry though, indicating he had yet to get in the water. The beastman was wearing green swim trunks, which contrasting to Moritaka’s were long and flowy. They were a light green shade, with white trim around the edges, and had a four-leaf clover pattern on them. He held his hands to his chest, as if he was nervous of something. His hands had dark brown fingernails, and large foot-paws getting wet in the water as he stood at the edge of it. Moritaka looked at his face, he had a darker patch of fur around his left eye, but he looked scared. Moritaka figured he should see if he needed help, and walked over to him.
“Is everything alright de gozaru?” Moritaka asked the guy.
The other seemed surprised at the question, but turned to Moritaka and answered, “Oh, um, yes. It’s just that,” he held his hand to his neck, “I always wear my scarf, but I didn’t want it to get all dirty so I didn’t wear it with me, and without it I get anxious.” His master, the beastman thought, without him he was unsteady. He was used to being without him though, just not without the scarf he had given him.
Moritaka kept the conversation going, he thought that the other was pretty nice, and he didn’t have anything better to do.
“What’s your name de gozaru? Do you go to our school?” he asked.
“Oh, I’m Cusith. I hope we can be friends. I go to a beastmen school in Ueno though.” Moritaka could already tell that Cusith was starting to ease up, and he was glad.
“Well that’s fine de gozaru! Do you have any plans for today? Are you going to watch the fireworks at sunset?”
Cusith answered, “Well, not really. I guess I will watch the fireworks though.”
“Do you want to uh...? Get in the water together then?” After asking that, Moritaka saw Cusith’s tail begin to slowly sway, which in turn made him show a small smile.
“S-sure!” Cusith had begun to get excited.
Moritaka and Cusith chilled in the water together, playing through the waves. Cusith was amazed by Moritaka, his samurai knowledge seemed very cool to the golden dog. Cusith could tell that Moritaka was having lots of fun, which made him have fun too. Moritaka couldn’t help but think that Cusith was cute, he thought that he was very caring, even though Moritaka started talking to Cusith as a way to give care to him. Time went by quickly, and the two bonded rather fast. They had a long conversation, and the two enjoyed themselves fully.
Suddenly though, Moritaka heard someone from the distance calling out his name, “Yo Moritaka-kun!” Ryouta called out, “Are you ready to eat?” Moritaka thought to himself, didn’t Ryouta already eat with Chouji? Moritaka doesn’t mind though, he is glad to have good friends, even though he feels like he is lacking someone. Moritaka almost didn’t want to leave, but Kengo, Shirou, and the protagonist were with Ryouta, and he didn’t want to let them down.
“O-Okay!!’ Moritaka yelled back, but he immediately faced to Cusith afterwards, “I’m sorry de gozaru, but I have to go now. I had a lot of fun with you though!” He smiled and began to retreat.
“Bye bye!” Cusith said to Moritaka as he walked away. He really liked that guy, but he realized that he had never asked for the samurai’s name. That’s normally how these kind of chance meetings end up though, and although he already missed his company, he smiled thinking about him. Cusith walked away from the water, and he felt like he had made good use of the day, just by hanging out with the other dog. Cusith realized that being by his side made him completely forget that he wasn’t wearing his scarf, and he kept smiling as he watched Moritaka walk away.
