Work Text:
Waking up was much more easy than you expected it to be, the mattress beneath you was softer than the couch in the living room. You slowly came to reality after a peaceful sleep, turning your head you glanced at the clock, it was way later than you wanted to wake up.
You sighed and slowly sat up, rubbing your tired eyes. 'I know I fell asleep on the couch...' you thought, blearily looking around the room, until hearing a loud pop from the kitchen.
Shinya must have moved you, and is already awake. He got home later than you did and still managed to move you, did he even sleep at all? Poor thing might've stayed up all night.
"Shinya?" you asked, walking to the source of the noise and seeing the man at the toaster. "Oh."
Shinya turned slightly, smiling at you. "Good morning." He moved over to his plate, and began spreading butter onto the toast. "Sleep well?"
"Yeah, thank you for moving me by the way." you sat at the islands counter, and leaned on your elbows. "Did you sleep well?"
Shinya nodded. "Yep, I did."
You had an aching suspicion he was lying just to keep you from worrying, that and the bags under his eyes. He did that a lot it seemed. You narrowed your eyes slightly but brushed it off.
"I also made you coffee, figured you'd like that." Shinya grinned, placing his toast down and sitting next to you. "I didn't know how many teaspoons to add though, so it might be a bit off."
You sat up and moved to the coffee pot, smiling. "Thank you!" He only shrugged, that grin still on his face. You poured the coffee into a mug, and you noticed Shinya standing to go to the window.
Just as you were about to bring the cup to your lips, Shinya flipped the blinds open. "Ack!" You heard him laughing, your eyes screwed shut to block out the light. "I'm blind!"
"I couldn't wait anymore, you need to see this!" he said, your curiosity beat you and you found yourself opening your eyes, looking out the window.
"Snow!" you yelled, excited and eyes wide. Shinya beamed. "It hasn't been that cold though, that's so weird."
"Guess it came early, winter just randomly hits when you least expect it to." he let go of the blinds and pecked you on the cheek. "You're super cute with bed-head, by the way."
Instantly you reached for your hair to pat it down and detangle it. "Ugh... why..." You looked up at him, expecting him to laugh or grin at least, all you got was a sleepy smile, you could tell how tired he was. "Shinya..."
"Hmm?" he hummed, eyebrows raised a bit in question. You looked up at him with a look. "I know you're tired. You should sleep." you said, setting down the cup and facing him. "I can get put the blankets in the dryer so they'll be all warm when you go to lay down-"
"I'm fine, really. I just didn't get much sleep, but I don't think I can sleep at the moment anyways." Shinya shrugged. "I would rather spend time with you."
"But..." you paused. "How can you really spend time with me when you're too tired?"
"I-" he cut himself off, thinking better of his words. You knew you were right, he did need sleep but he was just being stubborn. "I'm not that tired. I'm spending time with you now, aren't I?"
"Okay, if you want to spend time with me and prove you're not tired, let's go outside have some fun in the snow."
Shinya's face never lost that little smile, but you could tell he was totally not up for it. You grinned. "I'll get the snow boots out." you ran off, racing towards the bedroom.
"Sounds fun!" You heard him call, your smile widened as you began searching for the snow gear.
Shinya probably had a good idea of what he just gotten himself into.
Twenty minutes later, you had brought out the snow boots, your coats and gloves, placing them on the kitchen counter in front of Shinya who had sat at the island's counter, reading as you searched for the gear.
"Here's all the stuff I found, I couldn't find the other gloves but these should be fine for snow." you pointed at the black leather gloves, and then tossed the other pair to Shinya, who put them on with the boots and coat.
"Well, looks like we're ready." Shinya nodded, looking at your attire. "Are you going to be warm enough?"
"Yeah, I have another small sweater under this too." you smiled, nudging him. "You warm enough? Although you probably wanna be a bit cold, don't you? To stay awake?"
He chuckled. "I told you, I'm perfectly fine, now let's go."
"If you say so."
You two made your way out of the house, the snow was still coming down, so gently you could barely feel it against your face. Snow is very beautiful, and amazing to look at, but a pain to drive in. Luckily you weren't planning on going anywhere today. You glanced over at Shinya, he smiled back at you.
"What's first on the snow activity list?" he asked. You shrugged. "Whatever comes to mind first, I guess. Maybe... snowmen?"
"Ah! Good idea!" Shinya grinned, he reached down and began rolling a ball of snow, it crumbled slightly but mostly stuck together.
You began doing the same, you had to try again after the first attempt because of how un- packable the snow was. "It's not very packable... but it is forming." you glanced over at Shinya's work, he was already on the second ball...
Dang it... how is he doing that?
"You're doing well, [Y/n]!" Shinya called to you, you scowled. Such a liar. Yours looked awful compared to his, it was all bumpy and crumbling in different areas. "Oh, shut up." you replied.
He only laughed.
A few moments later, Shinya had already created a beautiful snowman, with two sticks for arms and a few rocks as buttons, two rocks as eyes and no nose, because carrots suck and you don't have any in your house.
Yours on the other hand was sad looking, basically the opposite of Shinya's. "I don't understand why you're good at this." you muttered, kicking your snowman. Shinya muffled a laugh, and shrugged.
"I don't know either, this is my first time."
"Even worse!" you huffed, turning to him and pursed your lips. "Okay, now that I'm mad at you for creating such great snowmen, I have an idea."
He tilted his head. "And that is?"
You went to your snowman and kneeled, to look as if you were doing something, and then you packed up a snowball, and quickly chucked it at Shinya.
Shinya, who is trained to expect these things, obviously side-steps just in time before it hits him. "Ah, I see where you're going with this, [Y/n]!" Shinya quickly scooped up a ball of snow, and threw it in your direction, you ducked just in time, laughing as it flew over your head.
"If you think you can hit me-" Shinya was cut off by a snowball to the chest. "Well..."
"What was that, Mr. I'm-so-awesome-and-can't-be-touched?" You taunted, grinning.
"That wasn't even fair, I was getting another snow ball!" He complained, throwing another one at you that hit you on the shoulder. "Hah!"
You threw one back just as fast, missing him by a few inches. "All is fair in love and war!"
"I'm going to tally the hits and whoever loses has to make the other hot chocolate." Shinya declared, and hit you again with a freezing ball of snow. "Two points for me so far!"
You huffed and threw another one, hitting him in the face. "I guess it's a tie, now." you laughed as he attempted to wipe the snow off his face, and hit him with another ball. "Better catch up, Shinya!"
"Oh, I will."
After an hour of snow throwing, you both decided to go inside and warm up.
The snow continued to fall as you both went in, you quickly took off your boots and jacket, and rushed to get a blanket.
"Shinya! Make the hot chocolate!" you called, reaching out to take off your soaked gloves and throw them in the laundry basket. You heard Shinya taking off his boots and coat from the hallway.
"I'm pretty sure I won, so you have to make it."
You grabbed a blanket and walked into the hallway. "No, I totally won. Were you even keeping track?"
"Wow, your hair is soaked." He laughed. "You need a towel."
"Don't change the subject!" you were about to tell him to go make it, but you remembered how tired he was earlier. After all the running around, he had only eaten toast today, too. "Oh my God, I'm an awful person.."
Shinya gave you a bewildered look for a moment. "What?"
"You're so tired, and you totally need to eat something! I should've thought more about it. I'm sorry, I'll make the hot chocolate. Go lay down, I'll make dinner too."
"[Y/n], that's nice of you, but I really want you to relax also. You've been busy with work like I have, so let's just slow down and relax together. I love having fun with you just like today, and just because I'm tired doesn't mean I don't want to spend the day with you." Shinya said, he came close and brought you into a hug, he was already warming up. You leaned into him and sighed.
"I know... but I feel bad." you told him. "I want to relax with you too, so after dinner let's just hang out on the couch, drink our hot chocolate, and eat dinner. "
"We can watch a Christmas movie, too, I'll set up the couch for us." Shinya offered, he pulled away and smiled at you.
He was close, so close you could feel his breath on your face, you both continued to lean in until your lips were molded together in a sweet kiss. You had wanted it to last longer, but all good things come to an end.
He gently pulled away and kissed your nose before letting go of you.
"Let's have a nice night to ourselves, if you're next to me I'm sure I can sleep just fine."
You nodded, a smile on your lips. He walked off into the living room and began setting up everything.
You began making the hot chocolate, and added mini marshmallows on top. After that you made a small dinner, and walked into the living room.
Shinya had taken the blankets and pillows from the bedroom into the living room, the couch looked super comfortable, He had already set up the movie.
You sat down next to him, placing his plate in front of him on the coffee table and doing the same with yours, you gave him his hot chocolate which he thanked you for.
He reached for the remote, the movie ready to play, and the lights dimmed.
He glanced at you and grinned. "Ready?"
"Ready." you smiled.
