"D'you think we're gonna be friends forever?" Taehyung says. The wind curls up over the lip of the cliff and whispers down the collar of his t-shirt. It's quite refreshing.
"No."
"Why not?"
"Nobody ever is." A single lily they picked on the climb spins and twirls between Yoongi's fingers. "'Specially not ones at school."
"Also, you don't live forever," Namjoon adds. "Y'gotta die at some point so you can't actually be friends forever. It's also called eternity."
"I'm not gonna die," Jin says. It's so matter-of-fact that Taehyung doesn't even think to doubt him until Hoseok giggles. "What? M'not. Gonna stay young and pretty forever."
"Same," Jimin says.
"Won't you be lonely?" Jungkook asks. "Everyone else will die and you'll be on your own. I don't want people to die before me. I'll miss them."
Everyone falls quiet at that. Jungkook wonders if he said something stupid again, and then feels Yoongi's fingers combing carefully through his hair.
"Y'wanna die together, Jungkookie?" he says quietly.
Jungkook thinks about it for a minute. "No," he says. "Let's just live forever."
Taehyung reaches out and twists his little finger around Jungkook's. "Forever and ever," he says. The wind whistles up and over the side of the cliff.
It's quite refreshing.
